Well, I'm sure it's a little different when you're trying to fix a guy who has had significant success so far as opposed to someone trying to break in someone new and still in the middle of developing. First priority would likely be to just try and get him back to what had worked before. I agree, but from the naked eye (not to get all meatbally) it appeared his stance was more open than it has been and he clearly was having problems driving through the ball/getting to outside pitches. But whatever, it's good they identified something and worked out a fix and it has led to better results (albeit very small sample).
I don't remember them having all that much interest in Gray, maybe I'm wrong. I thought it was Appel, Manaea (before he got hurt) and Bryant was kinda always linked to them.
I think the thing with Torres is he doesn't have any huge/stand out tools, he's just solid across the board. IIRC from seeing past things on him. Then again he's only 18 so he obviously has room to grow.
i don't want this lost on the bottom of the page :-" Even if they think he's fixed I think I'd prefer to re-sign Fowler for CF, then do some sort of revolving "platoon" between Baez, Castro, Coghlan and Soler in LF/RF, 2B.
Yes, if only kids and people who have no ability to react/catch/get out of the way of a ball paid more attention they would avoid injury all together from balls coming at them at 100+ MPH. Jesus christ. He should be saying it needs to be changed/fixed now and we can't expect fans to have the ability to avoid injury even if they are paying 100% attention at all times. MLB players often times have a hard time fielding a screaming line drive at them when they are completely ready and have the play in front of them. It's ridiculous to think fans, even if they are paying attention, all have the ability to catch or get out of the way of a hard hit ball at them when they are often times as close if not closer than the players and have a worse angle to see the whole thing.
I wonder if we get Javy up for the Bumgarner game. Face 3 lefties in 4 games starting with him. With soler on the DL and Russellpossibly out I don't love the idea of a lineup inculding Ross, Castro/LaStella, Coghlan and Schwarbs vs a lefty
Stop this. The Cubs aren't going to lose just because they're the Cubs, just like the Cardinals don't win because they're the Cardinals. The Cubs are playing better than the teams behind them right now. And they have a huge lead. It's ok to accept that. Baseball's a volatile sport, they could go 1-5 or 0-6 this week not because they're the Cubs but rather because baseball's baseball. Not to mention going against Bumgarner, Kershaw (or do they miss him?), and Greinke. Thought we were missing Greinke, but getting Kershaw... Correct. I think we were originally supposed to get both but it looks like they moved Greinke around to face the Giants in the series right after ours.
Joc sucks too Bah, you beat the edit. He's having a really weird season. Even in the past month or so while his BA is barely over 100, his OBP has still been up around 400. In just August games, he's at 122/413. His decline has been really weird, I'll try to find the article I read yesterday. But basically his BB/K% have stayed the same during his decline he just hasn't hit the ball hard at all. Like he was on Giancarlo level on hard hit balls to start with now he's basically hitting the ball as hard and often as Castro
A good chunk of the next two series better hitters are left-handed (Belt, Crawford, Aoki, Gonzalez, Utley, Crawford, Ethier) so calling up Rosscup makes sense and probably is the best option aside from rolling the dice on Edwards.
We'll all have a good laugh coming back looking at this thread talking about the unfortunateness of having the 3rd best record in the NL but being a WC when we pass the Cardinals for the division in about a month.
