Unfortunately even though he's trended in the right direction this year he's still going to look like this more times than not. Even his "good" plate appearances he still seems to manage to swing at, at least 1 awful pitch.
The Smith acquisition makes me wonder if Wood or Montgomery is gonna be stretched out for the 6th starter spot. Otherwise it makes no sense. He doesn't have spot when Grimm comes back up.
Seeing as it was unlikely we were the team that did anything major, I'm pretty happy that nothing major has happened and made another NL team clearly better (i.e. Sale to the Dodgers or something similar)
http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/schedule/_/name/chc They don't take it out that far, but you get the idea of the rough guys who will be there if you take the rotation out in your head.
Guessing they're holding out on a move incase a last minute deal materializes, assuming nothing happens I'd guess Patton, Concepcion or Pierce Johnson come up for how ever many days until Grimm is eligible to come back up.
I would've rather kept Matusz Smith isn't that bad, but I'd just as soon stick with Grimm, et. al He's pretty bad. 5.97 K/9, 3.11 BB/9, 14.8 HR/FB%, FIP/xFIP in the mid 4s, -.1 fWAR, averages only 88 MPH on his FB. Grimm is better
[expletive]. They're still going to get Archer or Sale or some other elite piece. At a time where it seems everyone is overpaying for players, just watch the Dodgers only have to give up like Puig, De Leon and some low level guy for Sale.
Assuming Archer is off the table/too expensive I still like Odorizzi the most of their starters, even though I know that's not the popular opinion/pitcher of theirs on this board.
Someone on Twitter was saying Grimm never left Chicago. I'm pretty sure once you get sent down you can't come back for like 5 days unless you come up for a player who was put in the DL
