  1. Jose Ramirez just walked off the White Sox, he had a 244 wRC+ in September and 3 WAR going in to the game tonight. Good lord.
  2. Adbert looked awesome, make him a bullpen weapon in the playoffs please.
  3. 3 frustrating innings here, keep em to two and maybe they break through. They’re hitting the ball hard.
  4. Maybin continues to look good, I’d like him back next year on a cheap 1 year deal (just non-tender Almora and give him that money). Good to see Martinez make decently hard contact twice tonight too.
  5. My ideal outcome is the Cardinals have to play that double header Monday vs the Tigers and then we get them as the 6/7 being the 2/3 seed, Reds finish as the 8 seed and the pitching wipes out the Dodgers round 1. That’s not a bad outcome. I still don’t want the Cubs to play the Cardinals in round 1. Mostly because I’m a wuss and since I don’t think the Cubs are going to win the World Series this year, I’d rather root for avoiding any chance of the Cardinals knocking us off even if I know strategically it is probably the better option If the Dodgers get knocked out we have as good a chance as anybody to get there in the NL. The Cardinals are probably the worst potential playoff team we can reasonably play, especially with having to play all those games. Give me the most favorable matchup vs them instead of a series vs a team we wouldn’t mind losing to who’s better.

  7. I don’t see any way he isn’t. Even if there’s a clear platoon advantage where the opponent was far better vs LHP than RHP and using Mills/Adbert/bullpen was smarter. Let’s just win 2 and not worry about it.
  8. KB is *probably* fine, but are you willing to bet ~1/8th of the payroll on it? In an offseason where we already have to fill 3 open rotation spots? It's likely all academic. I imagine, even with revenue down across the league, there'll be at least 2-3 teams happy to take that gamble. But personally if I'm going all out to win next year I think that money goes a lot further elsewhere. I'm guessing that Mills has earned enough trust that they'll get two starters plus depth guys I don’t disagree, but if Mills is given a guaranteed spot I’d hope they aim decently high on at least 1 of the adds. Like at least what we though Q could be as an innings eater high 3-low 4 ERA/FIP, 2.5-4 WAR guy (I’m partial to bringing him back), with the shortened year getting some innings eaten will be a premium next year since guys may be limited to sub 175-200 innings.
  9. If it's a table labeled "Really Stupid Ideas," sure, it's on it. Seriously. If you can get even a 3 win season from Bryant he’s underpaid at $22m. Sure he could continue to flame out and/or get hurt but it’s much more likely he’s a 3+ win player. Not to mention if he’s doing ok but not great you can get something for him at the deadline if you want. If you non-tender him he probably goes to the Cardinals and gives them an 8 win season Oh I wouldn’t do it, I’m still absolutely on board with an extension. I just think where the economics/LT are for us and after this third year now an injury(s) derailed him I think it’s absolutely on the table.
  10. Also do we really want to extend our 32 year old 1B who is showing plenty of his own decline? He’s borderline the face of the franchise, his underlying stuff is all within his career norms and he’s not going to take a ton to keep (probably $14-18 mil AAV). I’m absolutely fine with and want to give him a 3-5 year extension and think he’ll age pretty well.
  11. If it's a table labeled "Really Stupid Ideas," sure, it's on it. He’s going to make ~$25 mil. I think they’ll seriously look at it. He has no trade value and they have no room for maneuvering to make other moves if they don’t move his money. I hate thinking of it, but it’s definitely something we could see.
  12. Actually I had some ruminations I never posted in that how do you fix the cubs thread and one of them was NT Bryant to sign SpringerI’d rather sign some combo of Brantley, DJ, or Profar. Springer does a lot of what we already do that makes the offense inconsistent. Get more contact in here. Plus the whole cheating thing with Springer, Brantley at least was good without it. And the 3 mentioned you probably get 2 of them for about what Springer gets.
  13. Bryant getting non-tendered has to be seriously on he table this offseason
  14. Q is starting tomorrow, hopefully he looks good like he did before the lat injury in the shorter 30-50 pitch bursts. He could be a useful multi inning weapon in the playoffs as an opener/bullpen option.
  15. Hopefully the Schwarbs benching last night kicked him and these guys in the ass a bit to get going.
  16. Whether it’s from us or not he’s gonna be getting a lot less than the $200+ people were talking about in the last 2-3 years. Hopefully he realizes it and we get him to re-sign for ~$150 mil this offseason on an extension. I can't see a Scott Boras client signing a long term extension after his absolute worst season. He's going to put all his eggs in the 2021 basket. For both his and the Cubs sake, hopefully he has a huge contract year to justify a big contract from someone. If not, he's a 30 year old free agent with less than spectacular numbers and potentially injury prone. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk He’s never had a client like this with so many variables. Not necessarily a top FA in a loaded class, uncertainty of owners willingness to spend, looming CBA/lockout, 3 straight years of injury detailing performance, etc. I could see him being very open to an extension.
  17. Sure, if he's willing to sign for what a "pretty good" player is worth, which is nowhere near the numbers being talked about a few years ago. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk Whether it’s from us or not he’s gonna be getting a lot less than the $200+ people were talking about in the last 2-3 years. Hopefully he realizes it and we get him to re-sign for ~$150 mil this offseason on an extension.
  18. Well, they have a week to hopefully figure some things out with the offense. Hopefully something clicks or just pure dumb luck of some positive regression towards career norms for a few guys and they get hot in the playoffs. But mostly, hopefully they stay healthy and are able to get the pitchers lined up and rested and test some bullpen stuff out (Brailyn please).
  19. This could be fun, Tiger’s been fun to watch in these events where he’s mic’d up.
  20. He’s hurt with something, sounds minor but they mentioned it Friday.
  21. What a play by KB. In case anyone missed.
