  1. I like this, I’d try and keep Happ out of the Gray trade and also try and fit in/get Pillar and 1 of Kendrick or Cesar Hernandez in here as well.
  2. Found our CF’er
  3. Hard pass. Yup. No interest. Seems like a guy the Mets or Phillies throw real money at because they feel he brings some special sauce or something. When really he’s been given a good team in a bad division and just follows the FO instructions more or less and one of these low cost hires can do just as much as he does.
  4. I don’t think they’d trade Willy for him. I’m guessing it would be some combo of Happ, Bote, Vic, and prospects for him if they made a move. I’d be willing to move Roederer for him. They also seem like they’d have interest in the Zagunis/Short type guys who are MLB ready but we don’t really have a spot for them. It wouldn’t shock me if Zagunis has a few nice years as a 1B/DH.
  5. I really really like this, assuming he's still a legit CF (and his sprint speed is steady, so he *should* be). I do wonder what the Rays would want in return though. A Contreras/Pham swap works for us, but their hard on for framing has me skeptical of their interest. Yeah I could see them having more interest in Vic than Willy, actually. Obviously Vic isn’t enough for a 1 for 1 swap. Idk what it would take or if we have stuff they’d want but I’d like him as a target. He’s probably more in the bucket of long shot guys (like Marte) than realistic guys.
  6. Please get him [tweet] [/tweet]
  7. Adding Marte and Frazier would be awesome. They’re the exact type of hitters we need.
  8. Pham would be an interesting target if the Rays would make him available/he gets too expensive for them.
  9. Interesting how all the flaws of these teams in the playoffs, contact, hitting w/RISP, bullpens are the same flaws we think are unique to the Cubs. Maybe we aren’t totally fucked as a group and a few tweaks with the ~$30 mil available get us back to the playoffs.
  10. The Browns are [expletive] frauds
  11. So having two of them would be a good thing? And also in one more start and 14 more innings, Cole put up 4.1 WAR in the second half vs Yu's 2.5 WAR, so..."basically" is doing a lot of work there. Yu was great, and the most fun I've had watching a Cubs pitcher since Jake's run, but...Cole (and Verlander and Flaherty) was/were on a different planet. I had no idea Cole was so good in the second half, more was saying Yu in the 2nd half was basically Cole for the season.
  12. So having two of them would be a good thing? Non tender Q, sign Cole and trade for Gray and we can have 3.
  13. soooo 7 years before his last year with the yankees? what's your point lol 2010 is also +1 year after the whole binder thing and also the WS winning thing So then what happened when information started becoming more readily and easily available?
  14. Girardi is a complete [expletive]. His binders were probably full of the print outs of the ESPN and Sporting News fantasy player profiles. He also couldn’t manage the clubhouse or relationships of any of the players who mattered and clashed with them all.
  15. Well the numbers have gotten better each year so if that trend continues it won't really matter. He basically ends up being the same dude value-wise unless he gets the inexplicably 2018 defensive bounce from Fangraphs again. I'm not saying he's terrible, but we've done this dance three seasons in a row now, and he probably just is what is he is at this point. He's a useful player for the Cubs, but I seriously doubt there are any teams looking at him as someone they'd want to give up a serious return to acquire. Very streaky 2-3 WAR players whose defensive value wildly fluctuates at best aren't exactly a hot commodity. I think that’s why you keep him and add a bench player who compliments him for his deficiencies and move Contreras who has a clearer value/is easier to replace and maybe Bryant if some team has The Godfather offer (I don’t think it’s out there but you never know).
  16. Yu was basically Cole in the 2nd half
  17. By getting the next one. Jon Gray is the obvious parallel that could be available. Yup, he’s probably my #1 realistic target this offseason of FA or trade option. We should have the right pieces to get him (whether it’s minor leaguers but none of the main ones in Davis, Amaya, Marquez, Nico types or major leaguers like Willy/Vic, Happ, Bote). They’re also trying to cut payroll and his ARB estimate is around $7 mil.
  18. Playoff Kershaw activated
  19. Something like that, maybe like 3/30. There’s so many guys that have similar value to the names you listed I wouldn’t be surprised if they cost less. There’s also, Keuchel, Chacin, Bumgarner, Hamels, Hill, Wacha, Gibson, Gio, Lyles, and I’m sure I’m missing a few that all seem to be in that same bucket to me. When you also consider there’s Cole, probably Strasburg and Wheeler that will take decent years and money, some of those others guys are going to be able to be had for real cheap given the high supply of them.
  20. Mike Matheny having leverage for a job is certainly something
  21. Why would the Nats let him go?
  22. I’d rather roll the dice on Adbert, Mills, Chatwood, cheap 1 year FA than give up assets for Tehran with 1 year left. Velo down, walks a ton of dudes, doesn’t really miss bats. Not worth the time, money, energy and assets to pursue a deal for him. If he’s a throw in, in a Willy or KB deal with them, sure. But I don’t think it’s worth going out of the way to get him. Sure, also still threw up what would be a strong season for a 5th starter for like the 6th time in his career. If he's injured then yeah, scratch the idea, but not sure how Teheran on a one year in some throwaway pitching trade is any worse than the junk FA options behind Cole. I'm also weirded out by how easy it is to flip between Cubs in-house pitching being trash to them all being assets and guys who need to be garaunteed jobs no matter how little they've done If we’re spending money/resources on the rotation I’d hope it’s for more than an adequate 5th starter who probably has little upside left and has a $12 million salary. Just run with internal options over him or spend $4 mil or whatever on a FA if we are dumpster diving. Do my idea of trading for Jon Gray and/or Pivetta though.
  23. Tehran horsefeathering sucks Don't get me wrong, he's no Adbert Alzolay or Alec Mills, but a healthy 29 YO on a one year deal who can fairly reliably deliver a couple WAR and ~180 innings is pretty practical if unspectacular I’d rather roll the dice on Adbert, Mills, Chatwood, cheap 1 year FA than give up assets for Tehran with 1 year left. Velo down, walks a ton of dudes, doesn’t really miss bats. Not worth the time, money, energy and assets to pursue a deal for him. If he’s a throw in, in a Willy or KB deal with them, sure. But I don’t think it’s worth going out of the way to get him.
  24. Tehran horsefeathering sucks
  25. Yes. Especially vs Derek Holland and because the other team needed to win to tie you. Hey it looks like a bad decision worked out but it doesn’t make it less dumb. It also saved your best pitcher for a true elimination game if needed (163 or WC). Sorry man, your line of thought is dumb as horsefeathers. No, it’s not.
