  1. This is an extreme stance on Hoerner but maybe mine is too. I basically believe the whole case to keep him is that the MIF depth is garbage, he is already here, is so cheap and shiny new that the excuses will roll if he turns out to be more Almora than Grindy McGrinderstein, and we're due to have some contact oriented hitter with lots of hype not immediately collapse even get way better. I totlly get the case for Hoerner mostly I think, but he feels to me like the kind of player the Cardinals give a job to, he kills it for a year or two, and then Hendry gives him a deal or he disappears. I kinda irrationally resent that because pitching is a need and starting 2B is way cheaper than even talented let alone good pitching Not wanting to trade Hoerner, especially for a RP, and thinking his contact profile compliments the team well is an extreme stance? Bringing a guy like Hernandez is also a nice hedge on him, since you have a legit backup plan to him (vs like Descalso) if he sucks, you want to start him in AAA to work on horsefeathers, or play CF. I get the Almora concerns with him, but there seems to be more pedigree with him and we know between the wrist thing and swing changes he’s still developing. He also is actually fast so the GB/contact profile should work better for him.
  2. Adding him, who’s starter worthy, also would help if they decide to use Nico in CF some. His 81% career contact rate and ~.280/.350/.380 career slash line would be nice diversification on the offense. I’d go as far as say trade like Zack Short for him and extend him for like 3/25 or whatever Jed Lowrie, Marwin, etc go last year. Save some AAV money on his Arb number (~$10 mil) and keep him around a while since he compliments and builds out things nicely.
  3. I'm a fan of flipping Hoerner for a cheap high leverage reliever to pitch in front of Kimbrel lately, and think Hernandez will be one of multiple low commit, veteran options at 2B to pop up that also might luck their way into a good offensive season Hernandez would be a really great fit for the team. Go horsefeathering get him to help build out the depth. Nico shouldn’t be moved and should be pretty much off limits, imo. I’m not moving him for a RP, that’s for sure. We need to build out the offense depth and profile. I don’t like trading out Nico who compliments things and Hernandez also helps with things we lack. Have both on the roster.
  4. You have to go as far back as *checks notes* 4 weeks ago when they went in to NY and put up like 20 runs on Syndergaard, Degrom and Stroman to disprove this theory.
  5. It’s a Barstool douche but Interesting nonetheless
  6. Look, 99% of "clutch" arguments are dumb, but this one is pretty amazingly dumb because you are talking about a group of players that came back from down 3-1 in the World Series to win one of the most epic game 7s of all time. Dumb would be thinking 1 season cancels out the other 4 where they showed their true tendencies. 2016 was out of the ordinary. I’ll rely on 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019 to make decisions on who stays and who goes. But go ahead and keep thinking that the same guys will magically be able to hit when it counts  You mean like two of those seasons they made the NLCS, won a WC game, won a division, led MLB in wins, won a Game 5 on the road in the DS and were the best second half team in baseball for a good chunk of those years?
  7. Only idiots would want or be predicting Girardi. I agree with whoever they bring in it working like you laid out.
  8. Machado was traded at the deadline and Mookie is fat and away better. I think to get him in the offseason it takes around that. The deadline tends to be inflationary in terms of trade value, and the only player above AA traded for Machado was roster fill Valera. Trading Contreras for Mookie is a complete non-starter, Schwarber basically the same, and Happ almost certainly a bad idea. Alright great, then send them like Ademan and some prospects we don’t care about then.
  9. Don’t know why we’d do that.
  10. Way way too much. Machado got nowhere near that kind of package. Machado was traded at the deadline and Mookie is fat and away better. I think to get him in the offseason it takes around that.
  11. Kemp is in Arb 1 next year, but yeah I’d keep him and punt Descalso away.
  12. I think something like Willy, Happ, Abbot/Swarmer type, and like Zack Short would be close to enough.
  13. Why? If they win this one they go directly to the DS and Flaherty can still pitch twice in that series if it goes 5. He’s on normal rest also. Facing Holland, Brewers still need to win, just throw someone else out there and save Flaherty for a 163 or WC game potentially. But likely get to use him game 1 of the DS. Also if he went game 2 and 5 he’d be on short rest for game 5.
  14. Starting Flaherty is absolutely idiotic. How didn’t we win this dumb division?
  15. He was better than those players before the swing change or any AAA work. Yes, but it’s possible that the changes he made will make him a better player for the rest of his career. As much as we should be all in every year, I’d like to have this Happ for the rest of his arb years. Also the better critique for me is that they shouldn’t have tendered a contract to Human Garbage and they should have spent the money to sign someone better than Descalso for that role. Happ was better than any of these guys before making any changes, sure be mad they can’t find better replacement but he was still the better player to break camp with over the last 2-3 years than any of them.
  16. I mean they sent Happ down to work on things and working on those could be the reason he’s been better since he was called up. We’ll never know for sure if he would have hit like this if he was up all year but that’s how I always looked at it He was better than those players before the swing change or any AAA work.
  17. Happ has been worth 4.9 WAR since he debuted in 2017. Almora, Descalso and Cargo have been worth a combined 3.7 since 2017.
  18. Almora, Descalso and Cargo combined for -1.7 fWAR, Happ has now been worth 1.5 fWAR for the year. Bang up job, idiots.
  19. No interest in bringing him back, but wouldn’t surprise me if he’s good next year. He never should’ve came back from the injury.
  20. He should get a look in CF, I agree. Since it’s such a huge hole for us.
