  1. Lol, the bullpens in the NL playoffs are so horsefeathering bad
  2. Using your best pitcher to try assure you get more than a game 163 or WC play in game is "galaxy brain?" Yes. Especially vs Derek Holland and because the other team needed to win to tie you. Hey it looks like a bad decision worked out but it doesn’t make it less dumb. It also saved your best pitcher for a true elimination game if needed (163 or WC).
  3. He was on normal rest on Sunday, he’ll be on normal rest tomorrow and he’ll be on normal rest if he has to pitch in a Game 5. It literally changes nothing for them. Plus it kept him on his normal routine and meant he didn’t have 9 days (or whatever it would be) between starts. I thought rest between Game 2 and Game 5 in the DS was short rest always?
  4. I don’t think this is a hot take at all. Both were at their lowest last year and both, reasonably or even exceeded, the rebound expectations. Contreras hits ARB1 this year and has 3 years of control, so he’ll still be cheap for 2 more years the third year he’s probably in the $12-16 mil range I’d guess. He probably goes in the $2-4 mil range this year, $5-8 mil range the next year and $10-15 the final year.
  5. Hate to see the galaxy brain move of using Flaherty vs Holland immediately backfire in the first inning of the DS
  6. [tweet] [/tweet]
  7. They’ve won 90+ games 4 of the last 8 years and 88+ in 5 of them and have no playoff series wins to show for them.
  8. The players aren't as good as we think they are to naturally make adjustments and the coaches and advanced scouting/FO don't prepare them well enough for the day to day stuff (like getting our butts shoved vs Gio, Peter Lambert, Mahle, etc). The FO/Coaching changes on some of this stuff is as important, if not more, than the player turnover we expect.
  9. This. So very much this. I think it likely is. But we knew Boddy was available to fill this role and likely would be very good at it. We don’t know who else is reasonably available and also if Theo can identify the right guy. It’s encouraging to be targeting it, but idk if they stick the landing. And again, we lost out to the god damn Reds this on a guy we offered a job to.
  10. Didn’t the Brewers like overpay for Pomeranz? They traded their version of Zack Short for him (Dubon). They also got Ray Black, who is a version of Maples.
  11. Choosing Phelps and Holland over Hudson and Pomeranz is certainly a decision
  12. It doesn't make much sense, but I have had a growing feeling that KB is going to be traded. I don't buy that he is being aggressively shopped, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are very open to moving him. I think they’d be open to moving him if the right deal came up, I don’t think they’ll spend much time actively doing it either. It just takes a lot of stuff to likely fall in to place to actually move him.
  13. So maybe the Nats offense isn’t so Vaunted when it looks like ours vs the Brewers
  14. We either got outbid or outsold with a better pitch. The pitching development infrastructure is non existent, I can’t imagine we weren’t willing to give him whatever role he wanted in pitcher development. Whatever role he wanted? No way. Boddy is the kind of guy you bring in to run the pitch lab, and maybe give insight in scouting, mechanics, etc. There’s no way I’m giving him free reign over the entire pitching program. That’s pretty much what he’s doing with the Reds. Theo said we’re adding a minor league pitching coordinator or whatever, yesterday. You let a guy like Boddy have free reign over that whole thing when it comes to development, that’s all I mean. https://twitter.com/drivelinebases/status/1179148715560333312?s=21
  15. Even if this is true, and we've been ballwashing Alzolay since 2017 when he came out of nowhere, who cares? If there's a year to pick, right? I think they are clearly behind, there's no Cole and Verlander stories here and the velocity's not exciting, but Epstein also pointed out that not so long ago they were one of the best pitching teams in the MLs So you think everything has just been luck good or bad and we should just keep the status quo? You don’t think things need fixing on the development side?
  16. Good thing we decided to trade for Holland over Pomeranz
  17. Who actually belives this? I'm not even sure you believe this This was the first year it seemed we’ve done anything on the development front since 2015-16. I’m not entirely uncertain it was just dumb and random luck. Theo admitted they still are way behind in this development stuff the last few years.
  18. We either got outbid or outsold with a better pitch. The pitching development infrastructure is non existent, I can’t imagine we weren’t willing to give him whatever role he wanted in pitcher development.
  19. Did we figure out a way to not pay players to make this all work?
  20. No way. This will be done between now and like the week after the WS (depending on the unwritten rules of announcing moves during the playoffs). They have so much other horsefeathers to do they can’t let this hang out there.
