  1. I get that the deals are huge still and even why fans are so eager to support the owners, but this is completely disingenuous. There's a $170 million dollar gap between what Harper signed for and what you claim to be the expectation I'm talking about even though we also know that's not the expectation I was talking about. The numbers most popular for Harper in the years approaching FA, years where he had all the same flaws, were $400+ until they weren't because reasons. Not long after Harper signs, maybe a little before I forget, the Angels pounce on a Trout extension right in the range Harper was speculated to get for years and the owners got themselves a hugely successful reset. Also a reminder that the Cubs don't sign Darvish until his price got dragged down during the previous offseason I remember all that, Trout got 400+. Harper and Manny never were getting 400-500+ outside of the speculation of writers (which set the ridiculous “expectations”), they still got 300+. The cheating Astros tanked Yu’s price, imo, that had a real effect with where teams were willing to go and probably even pursue just like Strasburg and Rendon probably got a bump this year with how their playoffs and WS went.
  2. The US is getting horsefeathering embarrassed in the Presidents Cup, my god
  3. Coming off two horrendously bad faith offseasons where all the top guys signed for below early expectations very late and many had it worse despite being productive, why would the owners approaching with a tight timeline be seen as anything but a threat? Do you also think those previous offseason' signings came so late because the FAs were sifting through a pile of competitive offers? What was so bad faith other than it dragging out? The top guys signed for below expectations my ass. Harper, Machado, etc. all got huge deals unless you believed the $500 million thing. Other guys still largely ended up with getting paid fairly/what they should. I think the owners realized the dragging out was a bad look and things need to look better for optics. I don’t know why the signings came so late, I’m sure it was for a lot of reasons. Partly on players potentially holding out/passing on deals (we heard this with Moustakas for example), partly on teams. Now this isn’t to say the system doesn’t needs fixing, it does. Especially with minor league pay and earnings in pre-FA years and getting teams off using the LT as a cap. But generally speaking, other than the timing and dragging out of things, guys still got compensated pretty fairly with how they should’ve as FA on a whole the last two years.
  4. No, that would be a terrible thing because it's more of a threat than an olive branch. Probably the owners decided they needed a high optics winter meetings that wouldn't hurt their chances at both the salary cap and signing deadline, decided who was getting the big FAs and even the runners up (because fans are easy and apparently there's value in being said to have made a legit offer) well ahead of time, and then used their various media outlets to spread the good word that all is good or better now time for the players to make concessions we stopped testing MiLers smoking weed too everything is awesome How is that a threat If they got their senses together to go back to how it largely use to be before the last 2 offseasons with timing of the signings? (which was the biggest issue the last 2 years imo, because guys still ended up mostly getting paid it was just ridiculous things took to February or March to sign dudes)..
  5. A hard deadline on signing FA is really dumb, but if they got their senses together and “colluded” with the players and agents to have a general understanding horsefeathers is gonna largely be done FA wise by Christmas/early January that would be a good thing. Not apples to apples since it’s a capped league but the NBA basically has the wink-wink agreement between teams and players/agents to get FA deals done pretty quickly in to FA.
  6. All the national guys seem to be saying and hearing the same things
  7. And it took 25 people to accomplish nothing. Wait until PTR looks at the expense accounts for all of those people with no results. End of year is only weeks away, maybe projected profits were running a little hot and they wanted one final large expense to write off.
  8. A Robles centric package skews towards an acceptable deal to me vs some of the more pitching/prospect ones that have been thrown around.
  9. It sure sounded like they had an agreement to have an agreement a week or two ago. You’d think something is done before Christmas.
  10. I heard Cubs did something similar when they met with Shogo, they gave him a printout of the Cubs Wikipedia page wrapped in a leftover t-shirt from a giveaway from last season. Do you remember what the Cubs did for Lester? horsefeathers I remember when we did that for Morrow. He was talking about how our presentation/sales pitch was above and beyond anything he’d seen or heard of with taking in to account everything for him and his wife/family.
  11. Our current 4th OF’er is either Almora or Tony Kemp. His favorable projection is Adam Eaton who can play CF, that’s definitely they type of bat profile this team could use and the CF market is next to non-existent for alternatives.
  12. I’m hoping the Rangers end up with Donaldson, they don’t have the pieces to get KB. That leaves Nats, Braves, Phillies, Twins, Dodgers and probably the vaunted mystery team or two that all have enough to offer to make sense of a deal, IMO. If we are going to go down this unwanted path might as well keep the most options open.
  13. There’s no reason to lose out to those teams, at those dollars if they project him favorably.
  14. How aren’t their fans rioting? At least we once spent and pushed chips in and won instead of trying to win the efficiency Olympics.
  15. Adell for Contreras would be sweet. Q makes sense there too. Agree with your overall thinking though, they seem a bat short. Even if it’s just a platoon/role player type(s), like Thames to play 1B VS RHP (or DH when Ohtani isn’t) makes some sense, imo, board favorite Cesar Hernandez makes some sense too.
  16. No thanks. He's not as good as Rendon and reaches FA older than Rendon did. Rendon hit FA at 29.6, KB will hit it at 29.11 He’s gonna be .5 years older. I’d give him the Rendon deal today and take out the Arb years for 9/290. Easy decision for me.
  17. So Rendon sets the market as 29/30 year old 3B FA At 7/245, KB is owed $40 mil +/- next two years through Arb. 9/290 extension it is, get it done idiots.
  18. Alright give KB something in between this deal and Arenado’s deal
  19. It’s weird until you realize they’re run by horsefeathering morons with no real plan.
  20. The continued obsession with Margot continues to astound me. For a player of Contreras' caliber he's a third piece at best. The reason I continue to name him in a deal with them is because he can fill a huge hole (CF defense, hitting vs LHP and pedigree to improve). But I do not mean to name him in a deal for Willy as the main piece, just a known piece I want. There’s like 4-10 other pieces with some of the pitching they have that will be the main piece, imo. It’s just not worth naming all them every time it comes up. Lamet is the “main piece” I want now in a deal with them but I get why others would want other pitchers of theirs.
  21. Good news! Looks like we can afford him without a required move to clear money!
  22. That would make Margot even more available than he likely is now. Sending out Mejia for Marte then doing Willy for Margot+ makes a lot of sense, imo.
  23. Good lord, send his ass away forever
