  1. The lefties seem to be figuring Morris out. Holla and Burny have extra base hits against him today and on the season Morris' ERA against lefties is 1.61 higher than it is against righties. Here's hoping that Walker can get off the snide against Morris.
  2. I second that motion... I've looked but I can't find anything on CPatt anywhere.
  3. Mike MacDougal is interesting, but his numbers leave a quite a bit to be desired. If the Cubs are going to trade for a reliever, let him have a better WHIP than 1.39. MacDougal has given up nearly a hit per inning. Given the way Van Buren has pitched in AAA, I bet Jermaine could do at least that well. If Hendry can't do better than MacDougal, he should have Williamson and Van Buren to call upon from within the organization. Not to mention Wellemeyer, Leicester, etc. But I believe that Hendry can do better than MacDougal. I'm not certain if the Twins would be willing to part with him, or if Hendry would be willing to pay the price, but Jesse Crain would be one of the guys I would try to get. Has former Cub Justin Speier finally figured it out? His numbers suggest that he might. Julio Mateo is a possibility, but Crain is the guy I'm going after hard. He is 24 so he would be someone who would help the Cubs for several years to come, but it will take a lot to get him. Plus, the Twins are currently tied for the Wildcard lead... Well, a guy can dream, can't he?
  4. Miles denied before the injury Well, there goes that theory... Really, it seemed to be right after? Oh, well....
  5. Earlier today, a Reds fan posted a rumor about the Cubs trading Hill, CPatt and Mitre to the Reds for Adam Dunn in Transactions. Right after Wood was taken out of the game with what we now know is shoulder stiffness, Bruce Miles entered a post denying any such trade was in the works. I wonder if the timing of that denial had anything to do with Wood getting injured. Hill would certainly be the first guy I would think to replace Wood...
  6. Yeah, I'm out in LA and sports talk radio was saying that Dunn was going to be a Dodger.
  7. Gerut bats lefty. How about a Gerut/Murton platoon?
  8. Why not keep Grieve? It's almost the same player. He is two years younger, way more athletic and a much better defender.
  9. He has started 23 games in center during his 2 1/2 year career in the majors. So, yeah, I guess...
  10. I guess its true. Gerut's power has been lacking this season, but in previous years it has been there. Steriods? I hope not. In any case, his OBP is an improvement over Holla so far this season. A Gerut/Murton platoon in LF anyone?
  11. The old "well-placed source". I'll wait to believe it, but not a bad deal, if its true...
  12. I just hope Murton plays enough for Hendry to determine whether he is the answer in LF for the playoff chase. If Nomar is able to return and perform like he can, the Cubs might be able to afford having an unproven quantity in the 8th spot in LF. Especially if Williams and Maddux can have good 2nd halves.
  13. Hollandsworth AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS 07/09 - 07/17 13 2 3 0 0 0 3 0 2 2 0.231 0.333 0.231 0.564  Thanks for the ridiculously small sample size, Fred. He has an OPS of .821 for the month of July... I'm sorry. I guess I was thrown off track by the descriptors "realy well" and "lately". Both highly subjective terms. If you seek to prove someone wrong, you are going to have to do it on their subjective terms, not yours.

  15. i'd much rather move Mitre or Rusch then Williams, just my opinion. I'm with you. And I think they've both enjoyed enough success this year to be valuable as well. the game mitre had against the Blue Jays was pretty big imo. he went toe to toe with and beat Roy Halladay. He proved he can pitch at this level and is just a victum of being on a team with an exceptional rotation. Unfortunately, one or two big games is nice but it doesn't sell GMs who know better. From where I sit, Williams brings more than Rusch and a whole lot more Mitre right now, especially if he keeps this up.
  16. I'm following the game at cbs.sportsline.com and they have Ken Griffey in the game and on the bench at the same time. Maybe they signed Griffey Sr. earlier today...
  17. Hey, I just said that a couple of pages ago. Great minds...
  18. Okay, Fred, here is a challenging one for ya. What is the Cubs record when the Cubs pitchers get a hit versus when they don't? You can't possibly have that on file, can you? I bet you get an answer before the end of this page. Heck, it would be impressive if we got an answer at all. What are we betting?

  20. The offense is great to see, but for me, the performance of Jerome is the real highlight of the day. If the Cubs are going to get an extra bat, it may have to be by trading him...
  21. I know you'll hate to read it, but this really coincides with Patterson being demoted and Hairston and Walker moving to 1/2. Not saying it caused it, but there is a correlation there. Regardless of numbers, the offense just feels a lot different with Hairston/Walker at the top. That Corey/Neifi thing was just depressing. It seems like the rest of the team was thinking like a lot of us on this board were that putting Corey at the top of this line-up only hurts its chances and each day they saw Corey leading off put a damper on things before the first pitch was thrown. Players know stats and they know the importance of have a lead-off and number 2 guy with good OBP. Now that they have that, I think they believe in their chances to score and win a lot more than they used to. And that is the really important thing. When the players believe in themselves, good players can suddenly start playing like great ones.
  22. Well, thank you. I'm glad you feel that way because having Dunn's left-handed bat and .950+ OPS in the Cubs line-up may be the only way that they could beat the Cardinals in the playoffs.
