  1. Baez and Torreyes might be the two youngest. Gary Sanchez is one day younger than Baez. Torreyes is third youngest.
  2. He did that against the White Sox DSL team. Oddly, the last time he faced the White Sox, back on July 18th, he put up the exact same line.
  3. Villanueva and Hendricks seem like a good haul. Hendricks averaging 1 walk per 9 and almost 8 Ks per 9 for an unreal 7.47 K/BB ratio. He's age appropriate for High A right hander with good size at 6'2". Villanueva is solid defensively at third with a good bat and a good approach at the plate and he doesn't turn 22 until next June.
  4. 2/4 now with 2 RBI, 2 runs and a SB. His season avg is up to .266 which is saying something given his horrendous start. Good to see that since June, he's been his old self.
  5. Jose Arias, Tayler Scott, and James Pugliese at Boise are all solid arms. Jose Rosario and Starling Peralta at Peoria as well. Whitenack should be given a bit of a pass coming of TJS. Yes, they're solid but not projected to be TOR. Whitenack is being given a pass for that reason exactly. Was just listing good arms not in rookie-ball. Sorry. And I agree, those guys are solid, but earlier in the thread I was talking about who in the system could be considered a top of the rotation guy. Sorry for any confusion. And thanks for the Vitters piece. It was a breath of fresh air to read. Finally, somebody is open to looking at what he has become instead of the guy thy had written off.
  6. Probably, but that speaks to how terrible our pitching talent is. Indeed. Unless they acquire some close to major league ready arms via some trades, it's going to be a while before the Cubs have anybody ready to contribute at the top of the rotation. Currently at Mesa is Paul Blackburn and Dillon Maples, who finally threw last night. Yet to appear are Pierce Johnson and Duane Underwood. That's four. Outside of Ben Wells, who is recovering from TJS, that's it. Unless, Whitenack or McNutt somehow return to form. Jose Arias, Tayler Scott, and James Pugliese at Boise are all solid arms. 8. Couple questions. Who is the better BOR prospect Brooks Raley or Eric Jokisch? And would Matt Loosen get the nod as the best Cubs arm not in rookie ball?
  9. I'd put money on Olney over Nightengale 9 times out of 10. Let's hope this isn't that one time...
  10. With Hamels and Greinke off the board, that leaves Josh Johnson who, according to Buster Olney, wasn't going to be traded if the Marlins were able to move Hanley. So he is likely off the board as well. By my count, that leaves Garza and Dempster as the two top remaining trade options for teams needing starting pitching. Am I missing someone? Luckily, the teams with the some of the best farm systems, Texas and Atlanta are still looking. Are things looking up all of a sudden?
  11. The Rangers' sights are set a lot higher than Dempster, and they have the ammo to get it done. If the Cubs have any chance at getting some of their talent, it'll be for Garza, which looks doubtful at this point. Garza could still be in play. Teams know what he is and the medicals are no big deal on him. A small amount of fluid in a muscle. Its not a shoulder or an elbow. If a team is motivated enough and their doctors clear him, Garza could still go. What will keep him on the team is if teams want some sort of noticeable discount because he had a cramp in his last start.
  12. And it's done. Supposedly. Brewers got Segura who was a top 60ish prospect coming into this season, John Hellweg (Angels #4 prospect) and Ariel Pena (Angels #9 prospect) for a two month rental of Greinke. 3 top 10 prospects from the Angels org with one of them being top 60ish overall. Kinda justifies the Cubs holding out for more from the Dodgers.
  13. If he could dramatically improve his pitch selection thus swinging at better pitches to hit and taking more walks, he's got the hit tool to produce at an above average level. Not only is that not very likely to happen, he also is below average defensively and has little speed on the bases.
  14. So they'll want to move Baez? Which one, Jeffrey or Javier?
  15. He's certainly performed well thus far and he was a 2nd rounder. I really know nothing about his scouting report. But his numbers are pretty strong. He's young. Just turned 20 a month ago and already in AA. Words like pitchability and strong character guy have been used to describe him. Great control while missing bats. 2.9 BB/9 and 10.6 K/9 with a WHIP of 1.08 in a little over 200 minor league innings. He owned the Sally League as a 18/19 year old and dominated the Carolina League as a 19/20 year old before being bumped to AA where he is holding his own. He's likely not a future TOR guy, but when paired with Olt and maybe another decent arm, it looks good on paper.
  16. I would LOVE Gould and Martin. Same here. In fact, I think I'd take Martin over Reed, if I had to. I'll take Reed's better control. Gould is younger, but I dont know if he's better though. Martin's stuff is better, and his control is better this season, but he's a year older than Reed. Am I missing something on these guys' scouting reports such that you'd take Martin over Reed?
  17. CubsInNC posted in the minor-league forum yesterday, was at the Peoria game, said there were Dodgers scouts there. Rosario was pitching, so he could have been viewed as a significant piece. Although he wrecked his arm in the game, so he's almost certainly out of the equation now. Although CubsinNC said If it's not an arm, and it's not Baez, then the only decent prospects they would be considering would be Geiger, DeVoss, Zapata and maybe Easterling. If the Cubs got Chris Reed back in this deal, I'd be thrilled.
  18. Are you saying Olt or Buckel or Olt & Buckel? If it's both of them, then yeah, I'd be pretty happy with that, too. Besides the possible package the Blue Jays could put together, and it's increasingly doubtful that they will be buyers this going around, that's the most intriguing haul I can imagine for Garza. Olt, Buckel and possibly one of Loux or Grimm with maybe a short season guy like Abel De La Santos as the cherry on top. If the Cubs have to sweeten the pot with a prospect coming back, I'm good. Question is, how motivated are the Rangers to get this done?
  19. Man, that's rough. All the batter had to do was receive a bunt signal from the 3rd base coach and he was automatically given a hit. That hardly seems fair to Pugliese.
  20. I'm pretty sure defense is considered the best part of his game. If that's accurate and he keeps hitting like this, then the Cubs got a steal in the 13th round last year, even as an overslot guy.
  21. Trey Martin's putting together another very nice game. So far 2-for-2 with a HR, BB and a SB. He's been on fire for about a week now. For a 19 year old CFer, he's showing he's got some pop so far. 5 2Bs, 2 3Bs and 3 HRs in right around 100 PAs. He's 6'2", 188 lbs., so he's got good size. Does anyone know anything about his defensive prowess?
  22. June 17th. Exactly one month ago.
  23. He had a crappy August going .258/.295/.340 over 105 PAs, but he did really well in June and July. He only had 17 PAs in Sept., but he was good in that month, too.
