  1. That would be Manny Ramirez, who everyone takes a stab at his defense. Exactly. So, in summary...... get the guy if you can Jim -- one of those last minute 4-team deals with Boston again and this time lets have the Cubs win it all in October.
  2. While he's no gold glover, Manny's defensive woes are a bit exaggerated. He actually has a fairly strong and accurate arm in LF. Any guess who currently leads all outfielders in baseball in assists?
  3. And I believe Len or Bob mentioned during his last start that no one has ever reached both milestones against the same opponent --- something Greg has a chance to do tonight.
  4. I can't wait for tonight! There was a chance I was going to have to miss this game because of work, but not anymore. I'll be in attendance @ Wrigley for hopefully a very historic night. :D
  5. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/2005/07/25/WkZrkS9n.jpg Play the Rooks! :D :D :D
  6. Good for Joe -- He's a good guy and I hope he is able to continue his success in Tampa. That said -- I don't miss him in the Cubs pen. It was time to move on.
  7. By my count, they are 7-4 since the break for a .636 winning percentage. I felt they needed to win 2 out of every 3 games after the break (or a .667 win %) to have a decent shot at the Wild Card, so they are only slightly off the pace.
  8. I had the same initial impression when I saw Dusty with his arm around Hairston. I had this game recording on my DVR and went back to see if I could hear what was said.... and I'm fairly certain he was saying "going to this place on Washington St...." We are antsy for trades, but in this case I think we all heard/saw them discussing dinner plans.
  9. Isn't Nevin a 10 & 5 guy? Why would he approve the deal? Any clauses kick in on being dealt?
  10. The only Ramirez I see the Sox dealing, is Manny Ramirez..... and if the Sox throw enough cash in the deal, I'd love to have that monster-OPS goofball in left field at Wrigley. :D
  11. interesting..... in that case, this Sox The real scoop may be Fanzone's advanced trolldar. Maybe I didn't really read things correctly but he never said to ban him and he also admitted that his "source" was a low ranking Reds person who would catch the occasional bit of big news before it happened. If the mods decide to do that, that's fine, but I am certainly not doing this for a laugh or to get people's hopes up.
  12. In the offseason before the '03 season, all I wanted was Pudge Rodriguez. I still think the Cubs should have been as creative as the Marlins and jumped at a 1 year deal (with deferred cash if they really couldn't add his entire salary to the payroll). That season might have ended a lot differently if Pudge was in a Cubs uniform instead of leading the Fish's great second half finish. Oh well.... second guessing is not much fun - I will stop thinking about that winter. Edit: I should add -- I was not in any way interested in the 4/40 deal he wanted and got a year later, but I felt he was worth getting for a 1 year deal where he would be very motivated to increase his worth in the market.
  13. No way Dusty benches Hollandsworth for another lefty-hitting outfielder. I agree -- I posted earlier in the thread that I felt Gerut would be used as a defensive sub in a similar manner as Hollandsworth when the Cubs faced a lefty starter (Holly replacing Murton, Gerut replacing Hairston). I think the Cubs are nervous about Hairston's defense and wanted a solid defensive guy that could be brought in to protect late-inning leads.
  14. A first half with 2 sub-.300 OBP guys at the top of the order does that to people. We're OBP-starved.
  15. 9/10 - I must have a Cubs-obsession because that did not seem hard at all.
  16. Kyle Jepson must have been pressed for time getting that article up on the site.
  17. I think the motivation for the trade is right there in the Cubs.com article: Gerut is likely just another late inning defensive replacement -- this time likely for Hairston, who has shown that he lacks the instincts of a natural outfielder (not his fault of course -- he's a second basemen being asked to play center field). It probably means that when the Cubs face lefty starters, Murton and Hairston will start and be replaced by Holly and Gerut in the late innings. I highly doubt this deal is tied to a Dunn deal -- I'd like to be wrong though! :D
  18. I like the crazy thought -- I think Hairston will be dealt even though he's doing well leading off. I just don't get the sense that the Cubs really value him or like him much for that matter.
  19. Put that beer down man -- you're late to the party (see long thread on same topic). :D
  20. Well on the bright side, if Gerut does hit a ton for the Cubs we can dust off the ole "JODY, JODY" chant. :D
  21. Give me till August 1st and I'll let you know.
  22. LOL -- I'll clue you in, since the others haven't.... Dunn has been the object of obsession by this board all year. Hardly a new suggestion -- you could just bump any of the 100,000 other threads on this topic to continue the homage to all things Dunn.
  23. Red not White that is. :D Link Maybe a framework for a deal is done and they are negotiating an extension? Maybe not?
