  1. Agreed -- I'm a Beane fan, but I wish he would find something "undervalued" in Enrique Wilson and Jose Macias.
  2. The Rockies also got Omar Quintinilla in the deal -- isn't he a pretty decent SS prospect?
  3. Wow -- so I guess Payton is staying in Oakland then. Things are starting to pick up fast -- I love this time of year! :D Come on Jim -- work some magic, but don't wait too long to pull a deal or else don't bother.
  4. ok. the guys name seems to appear in every other thread these days, and I have bitten my tongue up until now. has anyone taken a gander at the Cubs DL the past couple of years? how about read anything written about the Cubs between the months of March and July the past two years? fill in the blanks for me..."the Cubs could make a run if their _________ staff stays __________." why would anyone on earth even want to take that chance, especially considering he will be this offseasons highest paid free agent? So using that argument, you'd want the Cubs get rid of Aramis Ramirez because his groin injuries makes him too much of a health risk? AJ Burnett is an amazing talent and every team that can afford him (that includes the Cubs) should be interested in adding him to their payroll.
  5. It would be awesome if the Cubs started generating some serious fear in the rest of the National League. I can't wait till this team finally reaches its potential.
  6. From what I'm hearing on the radio here in Chicago, KW is convinced they need a stud arm to go far in the postseason. They still do not have a starting pitcher that can consistently miss bats at a high rate. AJ could be that arm. Buehrle/Burnett/Garland/Garcia would be a pretty formidable playoff rotation. I really hope they don't get AJ. :(
  7. This was asked before: Here. My answer remains the same: St. Louis and the majority of Cubs fans that reside in Chicago know why. The White Sox simply cannot be allowed to win a World Series before the Cubs. It can't happen or this great city will become uninhabitable.
  8. The Cubs are playing about .200 ball in games that I attend in person regardless of day, time, or venue.... Seriously. .....anyway, you guessed it -- I will be in attendance for this game. Sorry folks -- the winning streak stops here. I also have tickets to another 9 games in the second half, so I am single-handedly taking the Cubs out of Wild Card contention. (hopefully, all this negativity continues to work in reverse folks!)
  9. I have long wanted to find a way to bring Bobby Abreu to the Cubs and stated in another thread that I would sadly part with Z to make it happen -- but only if the Cubs also acquired AJ Burnett to replace Carlos. (Must have cake and eat it too!) :D I also am fairly certain that there is no way on Earth Jim Hendry trades Zambrano. If the Phillies could be convinced to take a package of minor leaguers for Abreu, I'd be all for sending anyone in the Cubs system to get him.
  10. A poor decision to not have Tejada in the competition to defend his title.....
  11. And Brendan Harris. And Justin Jones.
  12. I think it's safe to say there weren't too many votes for Roy that came from this board. Not true -- I voted for him! Of those eligible pitchers, he seemed the most deserving to me. I want the NL to win of course -- not sure why anymore -- but I still do.... :?
  13. Done and Done- And I mean done..... Just due to his age, Z could command a lot of value in the trade market. I wonder if Hendry has peddled his name in the market any. I would be very sad to see Zambrano go, but if the Cubs also went hard after AJ Burnett I think I would get over it.
  14. Here's the Link. If Abreu was ever seriously dangled about by Philly, I would hope the Cubs would go after him hard. He is exactly what this team needs. I would also be terrified of the possibilty that another Philly/Cardinals trade could happen, while the Cubs watched on the sidelines.
  15. A win-win situation.
  16. Did anyone else notice Neifi looking back at the catcher before a pitch late in Monday's game against the Braves? He ended up getting a single on another pitch later in the same at bat. I recall seeing him do that a lot earlier in the year, and also reading that he got busted by one team (Mets maybe?) and avoided a future knock-down pitch by apologizing to their manager. I've also noticed we don't get many close-ups of Neifi batting like we did earlier in the year -- this shot was not a close-up and I was still able to pick up his eye movement before the pitch. I wonder if getting that slight advantage helped him get off to the hot start earlier in the year and now he may be returning to that strategy due to his recent struggles at the plate..... Anyway -- I expect that sooner or later he'll be the recipient of an earful of fastballs if he's really trying to cheat on a regular basis. If I can pick it up on a broadcast, the opposition surely will!
  17. The entire NL East > Cubs I know its supposedly still "early", but that's not good for the Wild Card hopes. This team is in dire need of change and Hendry better not wait until the 11th hour to bring in the cavalry.
  18. One and Done. I'm the Moonlight Graham of Game Thread starters.
  19. Per Santo, replays show that it was a HR..... And now Pat Hughes says that other replays show it as clearly foul.
  20. Per Santo, replays show that it was a HR.....
  21. Way to go Burnitz! Nice way to come back after a HR gets taken away.
  22. Anyone watching on TV? Was it really foul?
  23. I would only be interested in Lofton if its a deal that centered around Patterson and Abreu -- of course this is just a fantasy I keep having as there is no way on earth Abreu gets dealt. BTW ...... Abreu >>>>> Dunn. :D
