  1. I suppose he couldn't have tried to make a trade either...... I'm a Hendry fan, but he did a lousy job putting together the '05 Cubs.
  2. Brown. Paper. Bag.
  3. Funny. I was thinking the same thing. Me too. Never, ever wear those glasses to a ballgame again. bad things could happen to you. LOL -- Maybe cropped that way, but I walk around with a full face and I, thankfully, look nothing like "Game 6".
  4. "Tell the fans I never quit," Zambrano said. "They have to kill me on the field." Link
  5. OK Jim -- waiver deals galore -- its time to get what you can and move on. I want to see the following 25-man roster for the rest of the year (and I know I won't, but that won't change what I'd like to see for the last 6 weeks)..... Lineup: 2B Fontenot LF Murton 1B Lee 3B Ramirez RF Patterson SS Garciaparra -- gotta see if he can regain his form CF Pie C Soto Bench: IF Cedeno OF Greenberg OF Kelton IF Hoffpauir IF Lewis C Blanco Rotation: Prior Zambrano Maddux -- he's not going anywhere Hill Williams Pen: Dempster Ohman Novoa Van Buren -- the kid deserves a shot Valdez Brownlie If the Cubs are just going to go out and lose a bunch of games, let's at least see what these kids can do and get ready for 2006/7. Worst case scenario -- we might witness some energy, life, and desire to play the game.
  6. What could the Cubs get for Prior? A curse worse than any goat could ever muster perhaps?
  7. Sadly, I know if I were there, I'd be booing heartily. I was there last night and it just felt like we were all too tired of pouring emotions into this team and this season. Without any expectations left -- and how can anyone have any expectations left for this pile of crap team -- there is little energy or need for booing anymore. Apathetic silence likely rings louder in the ears now anyway -- they've obviously gone numb to the booing. These Cubs are no longer loveable losers -- they are just losers.
  8. what could hendry honestly do. the season is over, all that is left to play for is pride, and im pretty positive these players dont care anymore. i guess he should just fire dusty so we can be first in line for the best available manager. Yes, he should. The Cubs should try to be first at something.
  9. That was generous of the Cubs --- now the Reds can have a less stressful save situation. 7 losses and counting. How many more in a row before Hendry's hand is forced.....
  10. He could miss the team bus from the hotel.....
  11. He made his second relief appearance last night -- doubt he goes back-to-back days just yet.
  12. LOL -- Burnitz now has a .245 OPS for August. Does that qualify for stinking up the joint?
  13. Shhhhh!! :-$
  14. I sat next to a guy who put together a funny poster that I am sure didn't quite make it on the air..... However, here's a photo of it that made its way onto a Cubs blog: http://images.bleedcubbieblue.com/images/admin/bakermanager.jpg (That's me cutoff at the bottom left in the Cubs hat and glasses) Post #1000..... a slowly reached milestone.
  15. Not only that -- we got some nice draft pick compensation for him when he signed with the Mets. :D
  16. Sheffield is a bit funny in the head. That said -- I'd take him in the middle of the Cubs lineup in a heart beat.
  17. I tell you what, if Furcal stays off the sauce (Farnsy and Furcal on the same team....what up ATL bars), then he might be worth taking a look at. But seeing as he has already by busted TWICE for DUI, I would definately think long and hard about signing Furcal. I've always wanted Furcal -- I still wanted him in May when he was doing this...229/.292/.330/.622 -- and I still want him now. We have better public transportation options in Chicago -- he won't need to drive after having a drink. I love Nomar, but I would like the Cubs to go after Furcal if he indeed becomes a free agent.
  18. Not yet -- but he could be if he has several more productive years before he retires.
  19. I hope that was just a typo -- I would not want Giles to play CF... LF or RF and I'd be very happy.
  20. Do we really need yet another lefty-swinging outfielder? The guy we need to use is a red-haired dude who is already on the team. I couldn't agree with you more. Murton has been nothing but money since he's been brought up from the minors. Why replace him with someone who can't even hit in both leagues? Who can't hit in both leagues? This post confused me..... :?
  21. And how exactly do you know this to be true? Well, they sell all of those newspapers.... What does the trib's circulation have to do with the profit/loss of the Cubs? They are completely different businesses -- despite having a common parent company. I'm not an accountant, but the shifting of money between different corporations is not generally considered legal..... just ask Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling, and the other crooks - ahem "former execs" -- at Enron.
  22. They need to recall Greenberg and give him a shot to inject some energy into this team. No need to put a still struggling Corey in the lineup and just have him get booed. I want to see Corey start to put up big numbers in Iowa for a sustained period of time before he gets called back up to the majors.
