  1. And how exactly do you know this to be true?
  2. The Cubs should sign Giles just to make sure he's not a Cardinal next year. I also expect he will have above average production for at least another 2-3 years and its very doubtful we can can similar production from within the organization. Besides we have two other outfield positions that we can go youth movement with.... an outfield of Murton, Pie, Giles or Lawton, Pie, Giles would be just fine by me.
  3. Its spoiled to expect your team to be good? Maybe management got spoiled int he 90's when fans showed up even though the team sucked.
  4. Who else was he going to use? I don't fault him for that. It's not like he's got a lot of great options ou there right now. Dusty's only contribution to this loss is the fact that he manages the dumbest team in baseball, and one that plays with zero sense of urgency, both of those problems lay completely at the feet of the manager. It's also becoming painfully evident why a lot of the pitchers on this staff would rather throw to Blanco. They can't count on Barrett to keep the damn ball in front of him in critical situations. Too many wild pitches this season have been balls he should have blocked and kept in front of him. Given the batters that were coming up to start the 9th, Wuertz would have been the best choice of those arms that were still available in the pen. Even Mitre would have been a better option than bringing in Remlinger to face a fast leadoff hitter that has killed him in the past and a bunch of left-handed hitters (and we all know how well he performs against lefties).
  5. The franchise has had 97 years to perfect losing. Getting creative now and again with the ways to lose, keeps it fresh and interesting.
  6. Players with no trade clauses can block a move to another team made via the waiver process.
  7. There's a lot more there for those who are interested. Time for Raffy to try some NoHOFforyoulol.
  8. They should give Patterson some more time in AAA and recall Greenberg instead. The kid deserves some PT.
  9. I suppose everyone defending Dusty has a good explanation for Remlinger pitching against Rollins (career 4 for 7 against Rem) and a bunch of left handers?
  10. The Cubs invent ways to lose. Pathetic. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) I'm over-reacting, but I would not mind if Barrett got benched for a week. There is no excuse for that kind of mindless lack of execution. I guess its true that the way a team plays is a reflection of their manager. /rant
  11. Yes he does, but he wouldn'be traded, thus he can't reject, unless he simply does not show up at the other team. This is a case of one team just GIVING a player away. I believe that a players no trade / 10&5 rights are not ignored when it comes to waiver claims -- i.e. they can still reject the move to the waiver claiming team.
  12. Nope -- he'll be eligible to become a Free Agent after this season.
  13. If you right-click on the image and select "properties" you can find out the size. Its at 214KB currently.
  14. Not sure it makes any difference, but Rose never bet against his team. But there were games where he did bet on his team to win -- and there were games where he did not bet on his team at all. If he had put the same amount of money on his team for 162 games, people would likely have had less of problem with it. The fact that there were times when he didn't bet on his team, implies he didn't feel confident that they would win..... and that's just as bad as betting against them.
  15. The problem the Cubs face with trying to make a waiver deal is that it is unlikely any of the players on their 40 man roster will clear waivers so they can be traded. So the Cubs will most likely have to trade from those not on the 40 man roster. The Cubs have a ton of guys that will be eligible for the rule 5 draft this off-season and not enough slots for all of them obviously. IMO that gives Hendry plenty of value that he can send to another team w/o worrying about getting them through waivers (so we don't necessarily need to have any current 40-man Cubs clear waivers to be able to complete an August waiver deal). If there's a player on another team that clears waivers and would be a good addition to this year's Cubs and possibly the future, Hendry will get a deal done.
  16. Depending on the terms, it could be a very good deal for Detroit to lock him up for 4 years. He's productive and can fill multiple infield positions without missing a beat.
  17. Good move for Detroit. I like Polanco a lot and was hoping he'd be available for the Cubs to sign. I think he would have been a great option as an infield super-sub. i.e. a great reason not to have either Macias or Neifi around next year as he could easily (and productively) backup 3B, SS, and 2B.
  18. Instead of just including the link in your post, use the URL button. In the open URL tag, you can set url= to the link, and between the open URL tag and the close URL tag type the text you want displayed. Example: (just remove the extra spaces below to make it work) [ url = ... ] text [ / url ]
  19. Here's a link that was posted in another thread as a discussion point before the 7/31 deadline passed. Hope that helps.
  20. Replace "DFA Macias" with "Send down Mitre" and that's how I expect the transactions to go down.
  21. It also makes no sense to believe most anything reported by the Score until it actually happens. Not a very reliable source.
  22. That's the everyday lineup I expect to see by mid-August. There will be some occasional tweaks -- like Lee and ARam batting back-to-back against a RHP (even though they should everyday). If Dusty can get away from the strict L-R-L thing, I'd prefer to see this: 1 Lawton LF 2 Walker 2B 3 Lee 1B 4 Ramirez 3B 5 Burnitz RF 6 Nomar SS 7 Barrett C 8 Patterson CF
  23. Yes, I have have. But, sinceI heard it this moring on the score (yes that score), and since now one else is reporting it--i am hoping that I was day dreaming. BUT, I was in the car this morning around 9:30-1:000, and they broke away from the show (i think it was North...?) and said "the cubs are to recall Corey patterson." That was it, no when or for who. But, now that I am home for the day, and this board is not up in arms--I am starting to wonder If i sprinkled a little PCP on my cheerios. I am serious about this, I SWEAR i heard this. But, I can not believe no one else did?!?!? I can confirm that the Score mentioned that Corey would be recalled soon. They could not figure out if it would be in the next "7-10 days" they previously reported or sooner than that. They implied that Corey's recall might be imminent and coincide with a waiver deal trading away Jerry Hairston. This is where the Score ventured off into "I don't believe they know what they are talking about" land.......
  24. Teams put everyone on waivers so it is less obvious who they are trying to move.
