  1. A) I don't think I've seen anyone use "dumpster" in a derogatory way since 2004, which is well before the ban on such names. B) there should be a double standard in a community this small between long time posters and newbies. The mods here know the people with thousands of posts. They know their general intentions and know if they can be trusted to reign it in if they're instructed to do so. There is a VERY GOOD REASON THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE LAW. We have the sort of legal system ENTIRELY because we live in a society where most people do not know most other people they may run into. It's simply not a good idea to apply to this sort of community because the judges actually know everyone involved in the incidents they moderate.
  2. If this was the NFL, we'd be telling ourselves "it's ok, hendry will be fired after the failure this season and the new gm will kill neifi and rusch's contracts, so it won't be so bad.
  3. Really, we'd never be able to tel lyou're not a cubs fan
  4. Hammond got 2/4.6m after a 0.95 ERA in Atlanta, from George Steinbrenner. Enough said. hOW MUch must all the other managers hate hendry at this point? Just a few days in and he's signing all these not-terribly-good/poor players to sizable salaries.
  5. He is not very, very good. He's very, very talented, and a decent QB. He hasn't done much, so without all the hype coming in, I don't think he'd receive much praise. No one player wins the game. Vick gets credit for not hurting his team, and for helping them win. But he doesn't win on his own. And it's not like Atlanta has put together some ungodly record under his command either. I agree with basically everything goony said. The falcons are pretty much the bears on turf with a better qb and a worse defense. If vick was a very very good qb, they'd be the best team in the nfc.
  6. Wind is good. the sun is evil. Heat sucks. I really despise living in the tropics. Oh, but I really prefer late october type weather: windy, humid, maybe some light rain, and dark
  7. seriously. it's a winter tradition -- hendry signs a reliever that will eventually fall apart to a three year deal. At least he's a real LOOGY. Do you go to another board or something and just laugh after reading this board? I really couldn't blame you if you did.
  8. Given that he's probably not really trying to sign giles, he doesn't need a ton of leftover cash, mostly just trade-goods. Unless he goes for abreu, I guess.
  9. I'll wear sandals til it gets into the 20s (or I have to walk through snow)
  10. Why the quotations? Probably because that was the week where people were saying "this is the vick we've waited to see!" Interestingly, vick's season qb rating is identical to his career rating
  11. I think I saw that while watching sportscenter half asleep this morning. Miami vs. BGSU. espn link yep. 3 safeties in the first 20 minutes. that'll upset a coach
  12. I'd swear I heard on the radio this morning that there was a game with 3 snaps (punts) into the end zone for safeties last night.
  13. At least it shows Neifi starting is not plan 'B'. AGon II is hardly a big improvement over Neifi. That is b/c Neifi is plan A for second base. Cedeno hasn't played one inning at second this winter. Wow, NY, reading that just made me feel ill. none of us wanted to be right about that one :( And hey, the other agonz is coming off his career high year for OBP. (at .319)
  14. For the record, patterson's obp coming into 2005 was 313. This year crushed that. edit: it's entirely possible I screwed that calc up, btw
  15. See, I'd be fine with this justification normally and all, but the fact that A-Rod won the MVP while with the Rangers in 2003 despite the Rangers doing squat kind of blows the irrelevancy argument up. Dawson in '87 anyone? 18 years ago vs 2
  16. You can judge that OPS is more important than BA. Duh, but there are still people that will argue the point. I don't think they have to have the same OPS - just the same SLP. This would show that OBP is more important than BA. But who cares who wins, lets just see who scores more runs. So match for slg but high obp vs high BA/not so high obp? sounds reasonable
  17. Hey, not just because of his rbi! he also hit a bunch of hr!
  18. Who's better? Bradley? I'll take him. Brady Clark? I'll take him too, but he may not repeat his numbers and isn't young. After that, unless you're getting Sizemore, Edmonds, Griffey, or Andruw Jones, you're hard pressed to do better. Or Beltran or Lofton. Unless you want to consider the top 10 CF in the game outstanding (which he may be in), he's really nothing more than average. What he brings in OBP, he loses in so-so defense and less than spectacular baserunning. Like I said, I don't think the guy's a bum, I just think he's highly overrated on this board. I like Beltran, but he's got a monster contract and would require a bunch in return. Lofton is about to fall of a cliff production wise, his BABIP this year disguised that. When lofton signs with someone, I'm gonna do a search for BABIP+lofton in your posts, cpat, and see how many there are
  19. Some believe that if Furcal isn't signed, Perez, and not Cedeno will start at SS. But if that's true, then even if Furcal is signed, and Walker is moved as expected, then you'd have to assume Perez will get more time at 2nd than Cedeno. Of course, after posting, I thought of that, with Furcal at SS, it'll be too easy for Dusty, I can hear it now..."2b is not Cedeno' natural position". Perhaps, a signing of Furcal and retaining Walker keeps the lineup Nefi-free. Signing neifi, having cedeno, and going after furcal means you don't want walker. you're not going to keep all 4 unless you can't get anything for walker (or you surprise everyone and trade cedeno).
  20. How could you possibly match a high obp/slg team with a high BA/low slg/low walk team?
  21. That's Action Superstar Dolph Lundgren to you, buddy. ;) He'll always be He-Man to me.
  22. I'd say the chance of Vasher running it back 108 yards was less than that even... I disagree... you've got a bunch of guys on offense who don't know how to tackle and most of whom don't know how to contain (i.e., like a kick return), plus a fast cornerback trying to outrun 11 guys, most of whom he is faster than. Did you see all the fatties from SF when he cut? They were dead in the water. The chance of running back a kickoff is less than 1%, but the chances of running back a field goal against a surprised, disorganized bunch of people who don't know how to tackle is much greater than that. And the field goal team is 9 linemen/holder/kicker. At best, maybe you have a tight end trying to make the tackle.
  23. But not as good as Rambo IV (also in the works.) Is Rambo going after Saddam Hussein? He's busting him out.
  24. pickett's qb rating for the game: 7.5
