  1. because of this, I think orton either has his best day or second worst day
  2. With no names on the cubs side mentioned, there's no reason to disbelieve it. you'd be a fool not to see what the starting point on tejada talks were, especially while sitting on a bunch of cash
  3. Most people can pay attention to more than one thing at a time
  4. If I sent cards, that's what I'd be doing
  5. is a guy capable of playing cf who has a .028 OBP+.049 slg advantage and is on the young side of his peak better thanthe guy with worse numbers who can't play cf who is rapidly aging? Are you joking? .077 OPS points is a huge amount at the same position, let alone moving from an offensive position to a defensive one
  6. Are you reading this thread at all? YOU USED SELECTIVE STATS SO HE'S USING SELECTIVE READING Btw, rocket, that's your best post so far.
  7. Major sponsorship? something to consider...
  8. And tomorrow you'll get news of a trade that will remind you of the saying "1 step forward, 2 steps back"
  9. \Yeah, there are all sorts of uses for .185 pinch hitters starting pitcher, relief pitcher...
  10. hmm, I wonder what what says about walker
  11. lima's wife=biggest implants I've ever seen. completely unattractive
  12. If US presidents lost wars as frequently as Cubs GM lose games, I'd be pretty upset. But by and large, US politicians have been far more successful running this country, its states and cities than any Cubs GM I've ever met. I don't ever recall a GM in any sport losing a game. I've never even seen any of them in uniform for that matter. not the place for this but...so elected officials can keep lieing and misleading and saying things that fly in the face of facts, as long as they win wars, cuz everyone knows governments only job it to win wars. I think our energy would be better spent demanding straight talk from our elected officials instead of our team's GMs. call me crazy. and with all these Cubs GMs you've met, you should get them to NSBB for guest chats. Wild guess: you've never seen a US president lose a battle on the field
  13. You know those people who go on and on about k rates, babip, etc? Not them.
  14. dusty joined the board?
  15. If we could have gotten, say, bradley and floyd i'd think it was bad. If you can't get good OF's, then it looks a lot better.
  16. What part of Wilkerson's numbers are "atrocious at best"? He's superior to Pierre in every single facet of the game sans stolen bases. Is that you opinion or do the numbers (and not just your favorite categories) bear that out? Okay, aside from batting average, which isn't one of "my favorite categories", triples, and the aforementioned SB, find something that Pierre does better than Wilkerson. OBP, SLG, HR, 2B, BB, defense, you name it. Wilkerson's better. I wasn't issuing a challenge, just trying to determine if your statement was factually correct, which it apparently was not by your own admission. So W is better than Pierre because he has better OBP, SLG, HR and BB numbers. Burnitz has better HR and SLG numbers and only slightly worse OBP number than W. Is Burnitz better than W. I don't know. What do you think? And remember, a walk is only as good as a single, not all hits. Wilkerson has a higher career: BA, OBP, SLG than burnitz hit last year. Wilkerson is getting into his prime. burnitz is getting old. Wilkerson can play CF. Burnitz can't
  17. Yep. But it was still working for a while after you disabled? I'm glad I don't have to try to figure this out Nope. It went away the same time as the search functions. I checked the code and it calls one of the functions I had to comment out when I disabled search. It's working again today
  18. It was more than "a few changes". It was a new coach, new personel, and no injuries. When you're a top collegiate program, you tend to recruit the top high school players. And of course, some of those wins were against bad programs who could only get bad hs players. USC is awesome, no doubt. 35-0 is also REALLY impressive, but you have to factor in the garbage teams they beat over that stretch: Washington, Washington St., Colorado St., Hawaii, Arkansas, ND (when they sucked), BYU (which hasn't been great lately), even Stanford. That's about 15 games right there. In pro sports, some teams are better than others, but no team is "garbage". Even the league's best team does not post stats THAT much better than the league averages. In college sports, it's not the same. It wasn't clear that i was arguing for the colts?  Apparantly not. Anyway, how was my argument? Well, aside from the fact that lovie was hired in 2004...

  20. nfl=parity. Look at the bears, from worst to first in a year with few changes. there isn't 2-9 team in college you could stick a couple new linemen on and have them go undefeated
  21. Fixed for you. .329 This thread is a hoot. If you are going to factor in his cs's into his OBP (which is logical) you also have to factor the other 40 odd times he got himself into scoring position as a positive. Which offsets his lack of power to some degree. (Unless we just want to say how terrible he is - in which case nevermind) Pierre is not a great player but he's not terrible either and he has a chance to be a decent upgrade. Yeah they overpaid some but I think the key prospects were kept so I view it as an OK trade. You say this after diffusion has done exactly that in more than one thread (including this one)
  22. Come on, no cheating. Did everyone have to consult the stats before they could answer Podsednik? Pierre's numbers have been considerably better, but because the Sox had such a great year last year with Scotty Pods at the top and Pods was the catalyst, people forget that his stats are inferior to Pierre's. Pods has been widely bashed around here for being massively overrated, primarily by the same people who aren't hot on pierre
  23. Not true. Aaron Miles, Clint Barmes, Neifi Perez or any of the other guys they've had in Colorado with little to no power have incredible surges in offensive production due to the size of Coors Field. HR's actually aren't all that much higher than other parks, if I recall correctly. The thinner air doesn't just affect how far you can hit the ball. It also affects pitching. Pitches move because of friction with the air. Less dense air=less movement on the pitch. Curve balls and sliders move less. Knuckleballs? ha! Fastballs with nasty movement become meatballs.
