  1. The bolded part does not support your argument. The steelers, in order to play the NFC in the Superbowl, had to beat the best of the AFC. Either they actually were the best in the AFC and so their 6 seed was meaningless, or the AFC was so flat at the top end of their talent that the seeds from 1 to 6 were interchangable, so the 6 seed is meaningless.
  2. I'm not arguing with the accuracy of his stats. But without additional comments, it's difficult to understand the point he was trying to make (i.e., whether he supported the switch or not). Maybe he was offering no interpretation at all, just data. Also a possibility. My only response would be (as I pointed out above), are we really making decisions based on 9 ABs? Dusty has said he makes them based on less. He's talked about what, "3 for 6" vs "1 for 5" against a specific pitcher not that long ago
  3. So how many people are dumping off tickets now? I was offered 4 tickets for 3 different games this week by 3 different people in a 3 hour period this morning.
  4. Rowand might have sprained his knee and neck on the same play.
  5.   Wow, I hope he's ok.
  6. You think it would be easier to trade for "miggly" than sign Lee or Soriano as free agents?
  7. I opened this thinking that hendry was trying to trade Neifi. This wound up being funnier.
  8. Yeah, Wuertz had an ERA+ over 100 each of the last two years, and then has to languish in the minors most of this season. I vaguely understand how ERA+ works but I've never really seen it in use; would an ERA+ of 100 be good or bad? 100 would be park and league adjusted dead on average. (higher is better)
  9. more soriano numbers: his OBP this season is better than anyone on the cubs except Barrett and Lee. His OBP last season would be 10th on the team (includes nevin and mabry).
  10. Easily explained by the fact that Soriano is completely destroying his numbers from the past few years. edit: his ops is 81 points better than his career best and 121 points better than his average (which he was below the previous two years)
  11. Then shouldn't you take it upon yourself to learn more about the player instead of just deciding you would rather have Dempster? Closer is the most overrated "position" in baseball. Probably.. but the reason I dont care right now is because a trade has not been made yet. That doesn't make any sense. yes it does... what i am saying is. If this trade were to take place and go through I would look up Broxton's stats... and then decide if I like it or not. Its not like my opinion really matters to the Hendry. What I do know is right now I would rather have Dempster than some unproven rookie. who has never had the chance to save a game.Willful ignorance and a pressing desire to offer opinions is a bad combination
  12. You make ZERO sense. You almost make negative sense which is impressive. Firing Dusty and getting an interim manager will allow our youngsters to play and allow us to get an idea of what we have in our system. It will also allow us NOT to EVER see Neifi Perez batting 2nd. It will allow us to make sure Zambrano doesn't get ridden to an arm injury. In fact, despite the fact that "that's all you're going to say", it doesn't make ANY sense to keep him lame duck through the season. I'm all for firing Dusty right now but I don't think an interim manager is going to come in here and play a lot of untested youngsters. Remember, he is interim and needs to do something to convince Hendry to keep him. Playing .350 ball probably won't get him the gig permanently. The cubs are on pace for 100 losses. I obviously don't trust Hendry, but I think he'd give someone who came in at this point some leeway, especially if he was clearly working to make the team better for next season. Remember, Dusty is harming Hendry by not trying to make the Cubs better for next year
  13. Again, the point of firing dusty is NOT TO WIN THIS SEASON. The point of firing dusty ASAP is to win in future seasons. Dusty has gone on the record saying that his goal is to win as many games as he can this season to make himself look better, not to put the team in the best position to win next year and in the future beyond that. No fan should accept or defend a manager who says that during an obviously lost season
  14. If we are getting more in return than his future value... I would be fine with it.. but I because of his record we wont be able to get much......... thats why I dont want to trade himSince his future value is probably extremely low and his value to us this season is 0 or below, why wouldn't you want to trade him?
  15. On a side note, the white sox had given up 43 runs in those 6 losses
  16. just heard on the cubs broadcast "the tigers could lose every game for the rest of the season and be 21 games better than they were in 2002"
  17. hence why i said we should trade himRusch has negative value at his salary. We would have to trade him for nothing and eat salary. Better to keep him and not play him. Better still to cut him.
  18. Interesting idea. We do it to make better stadiums to enjoy games in, why not do it for teams? (note: I'm speaking in a philosophical sense, not legal)
  19. The White Sox have finished under .500 exactly zero times in a year beginning with "200". The Tigers haven't even remotely contended in quite some time. Not to say that the fairweather attendance isn't annoying, but there are some degrees to look at there. Also the Sox fans started showing up in what, september? The tigers fans started showing up in May. One was waiting for something to cheer for, the other was waiting for a winner to cheer for.
  20. Especially when your manager is famous for running out starters who shouldn't be pitching at all that inning and not getting the pen up until they've given up a couple of hits
  21. I don't see what the Blue Jays ex-draft guy has to do with appreciating walks. That organization turned more sabr-centric when he wasn't there. You can point out little individual reasons why you think it's not true, but the big picture suggests otherwise. They are last in walks, by a wide margin, and the organization is dominated by overly aggressive hackers. There just is not enough to support the notion that he's coming along. Maybe he values walks to some extent, but the evidence shows he values them less than any other organization in the league. And that's what matters. the Blue Jays ex-draft guy is relevant because of the good discipline and walk rates of the hitters he drafted. the big picture does suggest otherwise Hendry has not valued walks in the past. that is why I suggested that Hendry is coming around, not that he valued walks all along. my point is not that Hendry absolutely, without a doubt values walks. my point is there is evidence that he's gaining a greater appreciation for walks. the fact that evidence has not shown up tangibly in the lineup to this point is really not material. further, 5/8 of the lineup that should be out there day in/day out are historically pretty good or vastly improved at taking walks. not great, but pretty good (Walker, Lee, Aram, Barrett, Murton). Who has Wilken drafted that has great plate patience? Rios? Wells? Both are allergic to walks (Wells less so). If you want to play that game of Wells/Rios are "allergic" to walks, then you have to mention the fact that neither player strikes out a ton either. Wells hasn't cross the 100 K's barrier during a season since he started getting CONSISTANT playing time. And Rios is on pace for something like 80 or so K's on the season. So they may not walk as much, but they don't strikeout as much. But to be fair, both players are having great OBP yrs (Wells .379, and Rios at .383 or so) with so little walks, but my guess is...both players have extremely high BABIP (or whatever that skill is) for the season. The game was "they have poor plate patience" You supported the argument you attempted to refute.
  22. I disagree that the lineup order would improve this team much. Wow Thanks for the insight. OBP off all of those spots in the lineup with current players and splits included. Pierre (320), Barrett (399), Lee (396), Aramis (324), Jones/Murton (372), Walker (356), Jones/Murton (287), Cedeno (280). no need for the sarcasm just because your argument has been proven wrong by dozens of people who do nothing but analyze baseball. It's not like he's saying that if the Cubs just "tweaked" their lineup a little bit they'd be scoring 9 a game, he's just saying that the awful lineups Dusty puts on the card every morning are only worsening the offensive potential of this club. I see nothing wrong with the argument that batting the sadly scarce high OBP/lowish power guys the Cubs have 1 and 2 with the decent power guys they have 3-4-5, instead of this Neifi Perez #2 crap, would improve the Cubs' offensive situation. Worst in baseball to middle of the pack is a large improvement.
  23. Yes, his OPS has helped the Cubs immensely this year. Especially over June and July when he carried the club. Without Walker the Cubs would have never made it to the playoffs in 2004 and 2005 and if they trade him they might finish with 105 losses instead of 100. Yes, Lee and zambrano suck. Wait, you were talking about Walker. but they're on the team too, they must also be terrible Boo. Hiss.
  24. Weren't Astros fans always freaking out about him being the anti-dusty and pulling starters way too early?
