  1. Which of those does Frank Thomas bring?
  2. I doubt those were Cub fans. They were [expletive] biggots who targeted an African American manager in the spotlight. They're not mutually exclusive categories. Millions of Cubs fans out there, some of them are bound to be tremendous bigots
  3. Excellent reasons to bring Dusty back for another season.
  4. They just keep getting better
  5. It's too bad that play didn't go off. Bears line is beating the bills even without those two.
  6. I wasn't going to watch these games but plan to now. Good job ESPN, you've made yourself a less credible sports network but possibly more entertaining
  7. That would leave this board with people posting completely unconnected opinions, never addressing what anyone else thought unless they agreed That would be dumb
  8. He's working on trading vance to another board
  9. I'd say that's a giant problem for the twins. A's hve got to be what, 75% favorites now?
  10. I was not expecting that to go out from the sound
  11. Only series that isn't going to make me ill. And Santana is good.
  12. Easy to confuse an invincible sense of your personal perfection and infalibility with mental toughness
  13. I'm really shocked they didn't blitz more. Really dumb mistake.
  14. NBC announcers calling the bears clearly the best team in the NFC wow, that was a horrible sack
  15. another bad spot for a first down
  16. Madden in 2nd quarter: Jones doesn't dance around a lot behind the line Madden in third quarter: that's one of the things they don't like about jones, hopping around and not hitting the hole
  17. Nope this is only happening because Alexander is not playing. We still arent good, just wait till tomorrow, thats what we will hear. Who cares Pay no attention to his 2.8 ypc on the year, or whatever it is.

I was just thinking there was some room for hope in that regard. He has been with the organization for a long time, though, so hard to say if opinions have already been calcified. At the risk of being a contrarian, I think the Cubs have been excellent at times in player evaluation. They traded Choi, Bobby Hill, and Brendan Harris while acquiring DLee, Aram, and Murton. Unlike most of this board, the Cubs were on target about Jacque's abilities. The problem isn't scouting, it's not relying on stats as well as scouting. Finding a platoon partner for Jacque, batting high OBP guys #1 and #2, etc. The management team needs balance, not a complete overhaul. *sigh*...the problem with Jones, for the millionth time, wasn't that people thought he wouldn't perform well this season. It was that we didn't think he was obtained at a good price, and for a reasonable length of time. If he maintains this same level of play for 3 years, then maybe you'll have a point. Well, this day in age I think his production was just fine for only 5 M/year. But that's THIS YEAR! Forget this year. In the last year of his deal, will he perform well enough for his salary? That's the argument. Ok, I hear you, but you can only go by what he has done so far. Nobody know what he will do in year 3, its kind of pointless to argue that right now. You can only discuss what he has done so far, which was a pretty good year. Let's sign him to a 40 year $6 billion contract What, you don't know how he'll do, he hasn't done it yet. edit: oh, and yay, I guess.
  19. an OBP better than .350 1 month and .350 1-2 months. Faaaannnntastic! He even hit 3 HR!!! What a hitter! But seriously, I'd like someone much better. If he's cheap, he has value, but he's not going to be cheap
  20. How so? Cause now the Cubs might consider Theriot as the starting 2B. That's risky, since Theriot doesn't even have one major league season under his belt and he's putting up numbers in the majors that he's never put up int he minors. But if Theriot sucked, the Cubs might go out and spend for a major FA like Soriano. There are no question marks with Soriano. I'm not saying that Theriot won't be a good 2B next season, I'm just saying it's risky. In an extreme hitters park in 2004 2005 soriano hit: 2004 Tex 145 608 77 170 32 4 28 91 33 121 18 5 .280 .324 .484 .808 2005 Tex 156 637 102 171 43 2 36 104 33 125 30 2 .268 .309 .512 .821 that's one hell of a risk for what he'll probably be making next season
  21. Pat and ron were ripping the cubs for those numbers a couple of nights ago
  22. You have a problem with a 3.68 ERA? i do when you consider the talent that wood has. supposedly he had the best stuff in the leauge when he was healthy. he never came close to living up to his potential as a starter. hopefully he can rise from the ashes and be lights out in the pen. and again i wouldnt call any season he had "great". Talent is irrelevant when deciding how good a past season was. If god (literally) came down and threw 300 innings while giving up 5 runs, you wouldn't say he sucked and you don't want him back just because he clearly wasn't trying. That's a great year, even though you know he could have done better
  23. tore a tendon in his calf??
  24. right? and i think he realizes that the reason he didn't play against the vikings was that they were blitzing on every play and he needs to improve his blocking. if seattle doesn't blitz as much, we'll see benson in this game. benson will get his shot eventually, and we'll like him much more than jones. They will. We will be seeing many many blitzes after the way last week went. Gotta get the run game going
  25. and that shouldn't determine individual value. If someone argues that only players from playoff teams should be considered, I think it's entirely appropriate. Limiting it to players from playoff teams means you're (hopefully) trying to find the player who did the most to get his team there. That simply cannot be said for the Yankees.
