  1. I love the language differences between england and here in the states. I was so confused the first time an english person told me they "went out and got pissed" and acted like it was awesome. That doesn't sound pleasant at all  LOL..thats awsome..whats it mean? \he got really drunk wish I could watch the Cubs. Stupid vacation
  2. That would be crazy if true. I heard levine say this. Compared to what actually happened, well... I hate that I heard him say it.
  3. Jones is still due 7.8M, including 5.6M next year. I can think of a lot better uses for 5.6M dollars player wise. Barrett is a liability b/c of his defense and lack of production this season. He is a FA at seasons end and probably wont re-sign with us (thank God). We should cash in and get what we can for him now. Kendall is not a long term solution. We just get by with him offensively, but he still has a better skill set defensively than Barrett. He also would likely bring us a Type B pick in next years draft when we would lose him to FA at seasons end. So in essence we lose Jones, Barrett, and a B prospect for Kendall, a Type B pick, and whatever we get for Barrett. On top of all the other stuff, offering kendall arbitration would be one of the dumbest things Hendry ever did as GM.
  4. Peavey? Wells? What did peavey say? peavey said "if someone does what soriano did, I hit the next guy. Then he can tell soriano that he shouldn't be doing that" basically
  5. lee hit in the helmet by young. gets up, starts walking to first, he and young talk on the way, and lee throws a punch. young punches back, giles tackles young and pulls him away, benches clear. zambrano insane with rage, somehow his belt off his pants
  6. well, you should remember that the people making the new claim have to provide the evidence, your position in this situation can be akin to creating reasonable doubt. (for scientific purposes, not public opinion)) Still, there has never ever been a real test of clutchness done. the sabre people haven't even figured out how to test it. The conventional wisdom poeple have this won by default at this point
  7. it's funny because the supporters of soriano as leadoff and "there is no clutch" group have a large intersection. People argue that he should be leadoff for essentially "clutch exists" reasons and seem not to realize what they're arguing. And still, not a single person has ever done a real clutch study. for shame! and to expand, again: I'm sure clutch exists. It quite simply has to. Mental effects affect baseball to some degree. Players are aware of clutch situations. I make no claims as to the importance of clutch effects in baseball, or to the % of players who are clutch or unclutch. I would not be surprised if the clutch factor wound up being less than the margin of error of studies, if a real study was someday done.
  8. I've seen batters struck out by loogy's, and I hear they're not real
  9. recent name changes and avatarlessness are killers for your chances
  10. "did they have to stick so much of it in my mouth?"
  11. Isn't this old news? or is there another cub-killing ump who's retiring?
  12. It's amusing because most of the "clutch doesn't exist" people agree with you that he should hit 1st based on his career numbers (because I'm going to sleep, let me recap: sabr people have never, as far as I know, done a clutch pitching+clutch hittign study that factored both in at once. every time someone mentions clutch studies here it's hitting and ignores pitching entirely. maybe it's happened, but you'd never know it from reading posts on this board.
  13. Holy crap, do you need to go to a school with better looking women. if that's not the worst picture ever, she's a 3 in good health
  14. Ha ha, thats a pretty good one. It did help his Batting Avg. though. He didnt make it with the Marlins this year out of ST, was hoping he would, but despite that fact, probably had just as a productive season as CP, who is now hitting a robust .208/.264 in 192 ABs. (And Peter Angelos deserves every one of those ABs). Depends on how you mean that. Was he involved with Balco? Yes, as a bystander. Was he an active participant in a steroid plot like Sosa, McGwire, or Bonds? No, he was a bystander. I really think if Mitchell went to Shef sensibly and asked him for clubhouse details, he would provide them minus the names. ...    yep, you've crossed the line and shown that you're trolling. sorry, sunny, you made it too obvious
  15. Yes, they used steroids and other drugs between 1991 and 2004 That was tongue in cheek. Of course using the drugs between 1991-2004 was "wrong," my point is that MLB never outlawed the drugs until recently. Why is that? your point was wrong. steroids were specifically made against the rules in 91 there were just never any penalties or testing until recently
