  1. It seems like its been awhile.. maybe 09 Yanks since the favorite took it home. So maybe this is the year the dice rolls on the favorite again..
  2. One thing I noticed with all this RD talk is that the truely elite RD teams seems to win the Word Series a lot and dedinitely make the WS a lot. So we can definitely make ourselves a significant favorite and up to maybe mid 20% chance compared to most #1 seeds. But, still the field had the odds over 1 dominant team.
  3. I find it hilarious Kyle calls Schwarber Tubs Mcgee..
  4. If Schwarber can bounce like that right now he can just DH for us in AL Parks and pinch hit right now! I know its extremely doubtful but I'd love him somehow to make it on the playoff roster. Wasn't Adrian Peterson playing in the NFL 7 months after his torn ACL and dominating? Yes but the Cubs are not going to risk rushing back a 23 year old, make him play OF (or catcher) 7 months after tearing his ACL and UCL for a team that is likely to win over 100 games without him. Even if he just PH's, it would be completely unlike the Cubs FO to gamble like that. Plus baseball hitters typically need to get ABs and swings in to get their timing back and get in a rhythm. Bringing back a cold Schwarber into a playoff game would be a huge risk. It's probably not going to happen but if Schwarber was looking good swinging the bat at the Cubs facility in AZ come October I dont think it would be a huge injury risk nor risk of being detrimental to the team. Injury risk multiple guys in the NBA and NFL have came back around that time frame & their risk was exponentially more than a pinch hitting Schwarber with the nature of those sports. As for a Cubs performance risk it's simple if he isn't looking up to par in AZ you don't bring him up. But, if he's looking good with the bat in AZ then he is definitely worth the last spot on the bench. Its absolutely unlikely to happen anyways but i think thats because he wont be super close to fully recovered by then.. than it is because he'd be cold with the bat.
  5. No, it isn't. There were ties back in the day that didn't count towards the standings. If you exclude the ties what was the Cubs record over 162 games in that stretch? I guess adding the next three full games on to that stretch or adding the previous three full games to before that stretch started? Also, can anyone pull up other teams who had crazy 162 game stretches between two seasons? Also, why doing some googling of this there was a small reddit thread about stats over a rolling 162 game stretch. Found out Sosa hit 76 homers over a 162 game stretch between 98-99. Wow.. surprised that isn't talked about more... or Bonds 80 between April 2001-02,
  6. Uh that's 3 games short.... No, it isn't. There were ties back in the day that didn't count towards the standings. 8. Agreed. Talking about the Cubs as a 'clean cut' bunch is the same type of worthless crap we'd mock if it came from people in St. Louis. Yeah but c'mon, that's apples to oranges. If Anthony Rizzo or Kris Bryant or Kyle Schwarber tests positive for PED's, I'll probably never trust a person ever again. The three non creepy white dudes.. niceeeee

  11. Kalish and LaStella over Javy... meh. But in Maddon I trust.
  12. Posted in today's game thread because there was some talk about epic win totals. But this spot is probably more appropriate. What is the best 162 game stretch in history when taking into count multiple seasons? I would assume it would be either the 1905-1906 Cubs, 1906-1907 Cubs since they won 116 in 152 games, so either taking the last 10 games of 1905 or the first 10 games of 1907 and combining that with the 116 wins of 1906? Im sure the 98 Yankees coupled with the end of 97 had a crazy 162 game stretch considering they were 15-11 in September of 98 and still won 114. So they were obviously ahead of a 114 win pace most of that season. What other teams had crazy 162 game stretches? What is the Cubs record the past 162 games? I know they started getting hot around June/July of last year & i think were well over a 100 win pace the last couple months of the season to get to those 97 wins.
  13. I know the Cubs hitters have been hitting well this year but going by career stats are the Cubs at an advantage with their pitchers hitting vs the rest of the NL's pitchers? Generally it looks like Soler / Javy is the 9th man on this team. If we had a DH Javy would probably be in the field everyday with Soler DH'ing the most part. Is Soler actually better than a significant amount of AL DH's? Until/If he turns it on, I doubt it. Obviously a big impact of a hypothetical NL DH is our defense night in night out would be even more sick with Javy playing every day and subtracting Soler out of the defense. Also its a whole different story what a hypothetical Cubs DH would look like had Schwarber never been hurt this year.
  14. What is the best 162 game stretch in history when taking into count multiple seasons? 15. Just heard on EspnRadio..Cubs are now 1 run up on the 39 yankees in run differential through 26 games. 39 yanks had the highest RD of alltime.
  16. I'm glad Sean Rodriguez is on the Pirates. I hate the Cardinals much more than the Pirates & actually sorta like the Pirates. Rodriguez punk ass gives me some reason to actually hate the Pirates.
  17. It's probably not quite this bad for the AL but at quick glance it seems like 5 of the 6 best rosters in the MLB come from the NL right now..
  18. i do not consider this to be true this is insulting; for his career, Russell is +21 UZR/150, better than every other SS in baseball during that span...yes, Javy might theoretically make for a better SS except for all the errors he would sure to make We all know you just hate Javy. But, yeah I love Russell... I just dont think its out of the question that the Cubs have two elite gloves at SS right now. Maddon gushes over Javy as one of the best gloves he has ever seen. We dont know what Javy would do out at SS everyday yet. I even admitted Russell would likely be more consistent there currently with Javy's lack of consistent reps there over the past 2 years. I just think its quite likely Javy's peak defense is even better than Russell.
  19. At best he's even with Russell at SS, I think Russell is better though. I actually think Javy is slightly better even at SS. His arm is decently better and range slightly better. Russell might be more consistent there at this exact moment but id bet Javy would be the better prime SS.
  20. I also want Javy to keep getting reps in the OF.
  21. I think Javy is earning a lot of PT for this team. There is 2 options of lineups with Javy that we will see a lot. What is better defensively for the team. Javy 3b, KB LF and Zobrist at 2b vs KB 3b, Zobrisy LF and Javy at 2B? I think Javy is an easy upgrade over both guys at both infield positions but KB may very well be the better OF over Zobrist because of speed an arm at this point. So im kinda leaning toward 3b javy.
  22. 8-) i wouldn't say either of those things Im semi Ok with Soler busting if Javy turns studly. Harper will be in the corner for the Cubs in a couple years anyways.
  23. I dont know how often he hit 100 as a starter but I know Z hit 100 out of the pen when he came up.
  24. Young Z and Juan Cruz were both hitting 100 & highly regarded. Angel Guzman was high 90s, with wicked control & offspeed stuff. I remember there was talk he wasnt far off from Prior in 03.
  25. Arrieta is for sure pitching tomorrow right? I just rearranged my whole schedule to go tomorrow.
