  1. The last two games sapped any positive feelings I had built up over the last month. 8-12
  2. Considering the way the Cubs were winning was smoke and mirrors, I think you might expect a big cold streak coming up. A cold streak or getting back to normal?
  3. That would have been a called K for a D-Back pitcher.
  4. Winning a game requires scoring. Something the Cubs look like they have little interest in.
  5. this ump is terrible. the strike zone varies by inning. Yeah, it's always bigger in the bottom of the inning.
  6. Similar because it makes no difference where a player hits. Hitters hit. It's illogical to think otherwise. Barry Bonds used to bat leadoff too. You make the change and stick with it. He would get his hits. To try it for a few games and give up is short-sighted.
  7. Again, why do people think Soriano hitting 5th is going to do much good? I think it will make pitchers pitch to Aramis more and I think some of Soriano's solo shots will become 2 and 3 run homers. But Theriot has to get on base at a decent clip for it to work.
  8. This is progress. He didn't used to mind getting swindled. See Pierre, Juan.
  9. I like Cedeno mor than Izturis.
  10. From a column by Bruce Miles: For now, Jones still a Cub
  11. Your car analogy doesn't apply to the situation. Try this one: If you bought a car and it broke down and ended up being unrepairable, would you let it sit in your garage taking up space that could be better used by one of your other cars? Or if you had an offer to give you a small amount of money to get rid of that car, wouldn't you take it even though it may be well below what you owe? The problem with your analogy is that no one offered us anything. They agreed to take him if we pay them to do so. Sometimes you have to pay to have the garbage taken away. I know that. This isn't one of them though. I think in the AL, JJ could have some value as a LH DH. Paying to give him away is not the best option. Edit: And I'm not against picking up some of his salary but not 90% over the next year and a half.
  12. yeah, because car transactions between neighbors is JUST like player transactions between major league teams. come on. It makes as much sense. Both are stupid things to do.
  13. If the presence of my car in the driveway was bringing down the value of my house, I might give the car to a friend across town while continuing to pay the bills on it. Is your real name Jim Hendry?
  14. I doubt if he can directly affect the operation of the club. But he does have a say in how the Trib spends money since he is buying the Trib. I still have my doubts though that he was involved at all.
  15. I don't buy it. It makes no sense for someone making a multi-billion dollar deal to get pissy over $6m dollars. I don't buy that Mike North "just reported" the story. He's not a reporter. He's a hack opinion giver who will run with any storyline he can find to create controversy. Mike North is a mushmouth. The though of Zell being involved with player movement over 6 mil is laughable. I would guess if Zell is, and that is an iffy is, it would be in the context of being involved in how Trib management spends the Tribs money plus the fact adding salary beyond this year could affect the price he will get for the Cubs. And $6 million + dollars is still a lot of money no matter how many billion you are spending for the Trib. The Cubs have already signed Jones. They've spent the $7m. What would Zell care about $7m for given that it's already committed? It doesn't hold up to scrutiny. This is garbage speculation by people who want to stir up something. Would you give your car to your neighbor? And then make the payments for him? And pay the repair bills? And pay the insurance? My guess is no. Spending money on players is fine as long as you are getting the services of that player. Spending money for players to play elsewhere...not so much. I know a lot of people want to be rid of Jones at any cost but there has to be a limit to Jim Hendry's insanity.

  17. Good for him then if true (not convinced though from that source). He should be the GM instead of Hendry, whom obviously has no clue what he's doing.
