  1. You'd think Pie flailing like a windmill would result with the bat hitting the ball once in awhile.
  2. So if the Cubs take the lead does Woody get the W?
  3. On the plus side he would probably K instead of hitting into the DP.
  4. Walk and a homer ties it. Is that asking for too much.
  5. I hate nationally televised games. They just don't understand the team enough to speak intelligently about them. I expect more from Miller. He's been doing it forever, he knows the history of these teams. He watched '03, he's done Wood games before. I'm more disappointed than anything I guess. I shouldn't have said "hate", but come on -- Wood is very loved in Chicago and has been since that day in May of '98 If you spent as much time with Joe Morgan as Jon does you'd be crazy too.
  6. Ya know, I don't care if Glavine is going for number 300, the strikezone should be the same for both teams. And it's not tonight. And that sucks.
  7. Hey, umps want to be a part of history too.
  8. We can't score a run off of a 41 year old. It's one game. Who cares? Glavine didn't win 300 games just on his name. He's a pretty damn good pitcher. Care to argue with me on Glavine not being a good pitcher? He's been a great pitcher throughout his career but these days you could put someone out there named Sally and if she throws lefthanded the Cubs don't have a chance.
  9. Any team that has Marquis starting better be able to score in bunches. This team can't.
  10. It's the way the Cubs are losing. Left-handed pitcher....you might as well chalk up a loss. I have been wondering lately why we even play those games where we are facing a lefthander. The outcome in known in advance, it's hot out and our players could use the rest.
  11. It probably means the Cubs won't DL him now and then they will play shorthanded for two weeks and then they will decide to DL him.
  12. Real men don't give intentional walks! :?
  13. I'm expecting this injury to carry over into '08......maybe even for the life of his contract. As a Cub fan I'm expecting they will amputate it tomorrow. We can rebuild him. We have the technology... I remember when that only cost $6 million dollars. So how much will it cost to rebuild our $136 million dollar man?
  14. I'm expecting this injury to carry over into '08......maybe even for the life of his contract. As a Cub fan I'm expecting they will amputate it tomorrow.
  15. I know why you are saying that, but I believe it's dead wrong. I believe we would have needed Sori to go on a prolonged hot streak to get to the playoffs anyway. If he's out, that has no chance of happening. Murton's not going to get more play time, if that's what you are thinking. Lou hates Murton, it's pretty clear. The current run has been accomplished with Soriano putting up some very mediocre numbers. Losing Sori would hurt but it doesn't mean the season's over. Lou has found a way to be able to pencil in Jones, Floyd and Pagan in upcoming games. That's not encouraging.
  16. Saving him to pinch hit later in the game when we're down 15-1.
  17. Cramp? Are you kidding? He looked like someone shot him.
  18. The reason they haven't signed him yet is the uncertainty surrounding the ownership. Big money cannot be committed for multiple years when the current ownership is only in place the remainder of this season. As much as Hendry and McDonough want to sign Z, they have no option but wait until a new owner has been decided on and can give the go ahead. Yes it can. The Trib still owns the Cubs and can do anything they please. The cost of the contract though would probably be considered debt and subtract from the selling price. The Trib is trying to maximize the price they can get for the Cubs even it means losing Z. The Trib has never, ever been concerned for what is in the best interests of the baseball side of things. It's all about the money.
  19. I doubt that, they just took three of four from the Brewers with Reyes, Wells, Maroth, and Thompson going for them. They will be players. Turns out it was worse! :D 1-4 with one game to play. They're not very good.
  20. The Cubs should not consider trading Pie for some such brittle player as (Griffey) or one dimensional player (Dunn). Maybe Miguel Cabrera but any mention of Pie should knock Jim off of his feet. Pie has a chance, though not a sure thing, to be a very exciting player for years to come.
