It's because they are going for the prized almighty strikeout which, in a lot of Cubs players and coaches eyes, is a lot more valuable than a groundout to 2B. :cry: A strikeout is not more valuable than a groundout to the 2B (except in certain circumstances). However, a strikeout is significantly more valuable that allowing the ball to be put in play. While I'll agree there are times when a pitcher needs a strikeout, I'll take an inning with 3 outs made via groundball or flyout on 6 pitches than a 47 pitch inning with 3 K's and 3 walks.
