  1. Little leaguers tend to heal faster than grown adults do especially with broken bones. The softer bone material of a kid will fuse back together much quicker than that of a full grown man. Also the torque of swinging and stopping a swing of a bat at 95 mph pitchers is a lot greater for an adult. That's why they can't rush a guy back from a wrist injury. The wrist is probably the most difficult thinkg for a hitter to recover from.
  2. The Yankess have always had a bigger payroll than all of the other teams. Go back and look at their teams of the 70's that they bought, mostly from the A's Charlie Finley.
  3. The really BAD thing about anybody in Cubs brass using that piece of wishful thinking is that the 2005 ASTROS GOT SWEPT BY THE WHITE SOX!!!! I don't aspire to get swept by the White Sox. 8) Aim higher!!!!!! Not only that but the 2005 Astros didn't have players named Neifi, Womack, Hairston, Mabry, Bynum, Blanco, Rusch, Novoa and Pierre. Or a manager named Baker. Big difference.
  4. Since when did Prior throw in the upper 90's with ease?
  5. I havne't seen too many Yankee fans complaining about how much the Yankees spent for their championships over the last century so I'm pretty sure I could handle it.
  6. So you hope the Cubs lose against the Twins, Indians and Tigers? That's messed up.
  7. Remember the 2005 Astros!!! [/sarcasm]
  8. The Cards are playing at a .647 clip right now. If they cool off to a .600 clip the rest of the way they will finish at 100-62. The Cubs would have to go 81-31 the rest of the way to tie. It's not impossible but it's pretty bleak. 71-41 might get them into a wildcard hunt but that is pretty bleak too to expect the Cubs to play 30 over .500 the rest of the way.
  9. With Dusty managing what are the odds of that happening?
  10. It was in an article last week that the Cubs would bring Soto up and I asked the question then who would go down since the Cubs have to play with 24 men while Barrett is out but I got no responses. I suspect Soto will come up and sit on the bench like most everyone else from Iowa does. Then if Blanco gets hurt he will play. I really don't consider Mabry an option unless it's a dire emergency. Sorry to the original question. I have no idea about his defense.
  11. Why do people think Glendon shined? He gave up 4 runs in 4 innings, didn't he? There's no way that qualifies as a good outing. Yes, but only 3 were earned. :D The only one that thinks he shined is Dusty who has said he earned the next start needed by the 5th starter due to the 9 K's he recorded. Not exactly. Okay, maybe there are others but Dusty is the one that matters...unfortunately.

  13. That's my thinking too. Nope. When a player wins, he gets to chose. I still think Barrett should drop the appeal if it isn't heard and serve it vs. AL Central teams from June 16-25. That's not correct. The only way to "chose" when to serve your suspension is to drop the appeal at a time that's convenient for you, but if you genuinely plan to appeal, your suspension, if it still exists, is served immediately. I agree. I've never seen a player get to pick when he is suspended unless, like you and others have siad, he drops the appeal at a favorable time to him.
  14. Of the 4 choices we have at 2B when Walker is playing first I'd have to give the nod to Womack over Neifi, Hairston, and Bynum. Sadly the Cubs aren't going to get rid of Neifi as he is our only backup SS. Hendry having those 4 on the same team is the real travesty. Quantity over quality...the Cubs new motto.
  15. I'd drop Pierre to 8 and move everyone else up one. If Pierre can't lead off he doesn't belong on the team. Better to trade him. I'd have no problem with that. Excuse my ignorance but who is Hoffpauir?
  16. Sometimes they will hold the appeal when the team is in NY. Sometimes they will bring the player to NY on an off day. Sometimes Watson will go to the player. I think the suspension starts immediately upon the decision of the appeal being made. It's no longer in NY. It can be done anytime. And if the player wins, he can choose when to serve. If it is upheld, he must serve right away. If the player wins there wouldn't be a suspension to serve. I assume he meant if it's reduced on appeal. Even then I don't think the player gets to choose when to serve it.
  17. I dunno about that one. I think Kerry has had a positive relationship with the Cubs during his tenure and has been generally well-liked. Plus, he and his wife really like Chicago. Granted, that doesn't always mean a guy is 100% for sure coming back, but I think Hendry and Wood's agent will work out an agreeable, incentive-based deal. I hope you are right. For some reason I just have a feeling Hendry thinks he got burned on the last contract he gave to Kerry. No evidence, just a feeling.
  18. Enjoy it while it lasts. You wont see him after this year. That's my feeling too. Hendry will try to lowball him so far Kerry has to walk away. That is IF Hendry even offers him a contract. It wouldn't surprise me for Hendry to pull a Nomar on him and tell him to try to find the best deal and so long Kerry.
  19. LOL...that makes me feel a lot better about that deal!
  20. So I take it he won't be back with the Cubs by June 1st?

  22. No, I took his whole Cubs career into account. Partying all night, sleeping during games, busting up a fan and going on the DL, etc...
  23. Unbridled optimism that Ramirez is about to catch fire. :D
  24. It's kind of a touchy subject for me because I think Hendry will let him walk at the end of the year no matter how good he pitches. And when he does you just know Wood will turn the corner to greatness.
