So you wouldn't trade Sean Gallagher straight up for Roberts? I would I probably would if we needed a 2nd baseman. Just trading him for the heck of it not so much. The trade would make more sense if Derosa could play some CF and be the righthanded half to go with Pie. PS: Having Marquis and Lieber as 2/5ths of the starting rotation is worrisome too. We may need Gallagher there later on.
Do we need a second baseman. No. Giving up either Gallagher or Pie is bordering on insanity. Brian Roberts is not Ryne Sandberg. Now if he played SS maybe.
why? Because if the home team scores in the bottom of the inning you don't get another chance. Not everyone will agree on this. That's just the way I view it.
I bet Murton wouldnt clear waivers. As opposed to every other OFer on the Cubs. No, he probably wouldn't. He's young and cheap and has shown some patience at the plate earlier in his career. But any GM calling the Cubs about a trade are sure to point out his 2007 numbers, not his 2006 numbers. It would be pointless to trade him when his value is at the lowest in his career...which is why I suppose the Cubs will probably do it. They seem to enjoy trading them at the worst possible time. They would have been better off letting him rake AAA pitching for the remainder of the year and then trying to include him in a trade over the winter. It's pretty obvious at this point though he has no future with the Cubs.
I can't remember such an incompetent offense. I think we had a much higher chance of scoring at any point last year than we have the last 2 weeks. Every hitter's approach (save Theriot and Kendall) is just terrible. Watch the meat, swing at crap - your goal is to pop the ball straight up or ground out meekly to the pitcher. They were WAY worse last year. Didn't the Cubs set a record for fewest runs over a 9 or 10 game span? EDIT: I don't know if this was a record or not but starting on April 29, the Cubs scored 6 runs in 8 games and 13 runs in 11 games: 2, 0, 2, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 3, 3, 1. They might have been worse last year but it hurts more this year because with just a little bit of hitting we could run away with this division. As it is we're going to hand it over the Cardinals on a silver platter.
Let me go out on a limb and say that Pie K's. ooooohhh.... alright...swinging or looking?!? how many pitches?!? here is my take... he goes down swinging on 5 (yes 5) pitches!!! come on everybody...throw out some predictions for our TOP PROSPECT 3 pitchers so you a calling a strike for each pitcher then? LOL...modified. 3 pitches...all swinging.

Odds of the Cubs scoring 4 in the 9th. 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, to 1. So there is a chance!
