  1. Poke fun all you want, but word on the street is the Ducross boys got the smarts.
  2. That doesn't sound like the best of ideas.
  3. Did Coletti introduce Williams to his wife or something? This is a disasterous move for the Sox. No upside to this at all.
  4. They need to play their absolute best option next year, regardless of service time. '11 looks rough.
  5. Cotto was never all that good. Has everyone forgotten about all the snoozefests that preceded his beatdown at the hands of Margarito? He was just a beneficiary of the post-Trinidad-Puerto Rican/HBO/Arum hype machine. Mayweather may be a smaller man, but his skills are in another stratosphere compared to Cotto. Pac may have his moments, and they've probably already scheduled the rematch, but Mayweather wins this one in undramatic fashion.
  6. Pretty sure the horses aren't leaving the stable.
  7. No, because all three of those of guys have made it known they wish to remain Yankees and all would have to take a paycut to get a job anywhere (especially Damon). Why would Cashman pay more than he has to?
  8. Boras can't possibly hoodwink any team into more than backup OF money, can he? Ankiel's bad. REALLY bad.
  9. What's frustrating is that most here could see what a bind this team would be in this season years ago. Everyone was just hoping we could at least make it to the WS in 08 or 09. Barring a huge payroll escalation, I don't see how the 10 team won't be markedly inferior to those squads. He had his shot, it didn't work, and he has to suffer the consequences.
  10. Hendry isn't just broke, he's shattered. We should hope he doesn't have the backing of ownership. Less likelihood he can damage this roster further.
  11. I'm hoping for Dusty Baker.
  12. We can only hope that this will be the last multiyear contract he ever doles out.
  13. Because Granderson provides excellent production at a defense-first position. 1B's are much, much easier to come by.
  14. He may not be a "superstar", but he's a hell of a lot more valuable than Lee.
  15. Funnily enough, Patterson is a good example of someone who cut down on his Ks to the extreme detriment of his offensive productivity.
  16. When was the last time Hendry sold at the deadline, besides junk that was likely to be DFAed? If Harden comes back, he'll be here all year.
  17. Right. I certainly wouldn't trade either for Granderson.
  18. i like how you have laid this out but i really think people are overlooking vitters in this case. i know castro is Mr. Hype right now, but I still contend that Vitters is the #1 prospect in the system, with castro coming in at #2 it seems. Granderson is in NO way worth a top 1 or 2 prospect IMO. If our system hasn't quite reached the point where you can't acquire a player like Granderson without giving up your top boys, you simply pass on the deal. Granderson is not worth a top prospect. I do like how you laid it out but some of those scenarios are too much for a guy who isn't exactly an all star. People are overhyping granderson too much, i mean i think the guy would be a huge pickup, but a pickup not worth more than mid level prospects. I totally agree with you. Some of these packages look like we're going after Hanley Ramirez or Roy Halliday not Curtis Granderson. Granderson is a perfect fit for the Cubs, but he's not worth trading our top prospects plus creating a new hole on the field. As BCVM22 pointed out, he's atrocious against LHP. His suggestion of platooning him with someone like Reed Johnson is a great idea, but not after giving up half your farm system for him. Cub fans have waited a long time for positional prospects like Vitters and Castro, so they should be considered almost "untouchable". Corey Patterson was untouchable too. Not that I advocate trading either one for a guy like Granderson, but considering how many teams are looking to shed payroll and acquire "top prospects" Hendry should keep all options on the table.
  19. Though you'll likely refute it it, you need to see that white racism and black prejudice (I differentiate because I think racism hinges on power. You can still be prejudiced as [expletive], however, without power) come from profoundly different places. The contexts, both today and historically, are completely different, so to compare the two equally is both the height of irony and intellectually dishonest. That's not justifying black prejudice across the board, but to generalize it as being the same as white racism simply isn't realistic. If a black person dislikes a white person, or anyone else, because of the color of their skin, its racist. Racism is wrong. I'm not saying that white racism and black racism are the same thing, merely that neither are justified. Black people justify it because they were oppressed. That much is a fact, but its also something that the vast majority of white people today did not participate in. White people use just as bad reason to justify their racism, either because they just think they're better, or they're afraid of black people cause they are more violent, also a fact. The bottom line to me is that both sides are using facts to justify their racism, but they are twisting the facts to make them fit and entire race when they simply don't. Racism by definition assumes the prejudicial party is in a position of power. As that is not and has never been the case for blacks in this country, they technically can't be considered racists.
  20. Too bad he didn't think of this in '97. Might've scored himself a few extra million.
  21. Maybe he's thinking this will help him get his old job back.
  22. So they sell low on a power hitting SS to pick up another Corey Patterson? Gomez is the epitome of replacement level. What an awful, awful trade.
  23. Wait, people still assume SSR is a Sox fan? Glad I didn't do StLTarver
  24. Yep. Johjima isn't the only one returning to Japan.
  25. Superior in your opinion.(not saying you're wrong) I'd bet most people think Johnny Damon is better than all the free agent OFs of last year(2 of which got 3 year deals) Plus, he's a winner. I should've qualified my post by saying that with Damon, certain subjective factors ('04, '09, speed, looks like a neanderthal) come into play. The higher profile could guarantee him unwarranted dollars/years.
