  1. I got to watch Maddux pitch in my first Cubs game in 2004. Too bad he got roughed up a bit. 3.14 career ERA, simply amazing.
  2. I mean, sure, he was a bit shaky at times, and he wasn't exactly an ace, but I loved during the beginning of the year everyone would write off a Marquis start as a loss. I particularily remember when it was Marquis vs. Halladay and everyone, including me wrote it off as a loss. But Marquis went something like 7 IP 2 ER and the Cubs won. He always seemed to prove everyone wrong. He had a great game against the Dodgers in the final game of that 7 game road trip, and he was the one who broke our 6 game losing streak. When he's on, I enjoy watching him pitch. I agree that he needs to go if peavy is going to be traded here, but I will always love the fact that it always seemed like he was reading NSBB threads and determined to prove us wrong. Wasn't his ERA in the second half 3.8ish?
  3. But if you don't tell your kid that santa exists in the first place, they can't have their beliefs crushed. However, I now he would learn of santa at school, which is why I'd tell him somethink along the lines of "Most kids at school believe in a man who brings you presents at Christmas. That's ridiculous, don't believe them." Most hilarity would ensue when my kid would tell those kids santa doesn't exist and I get angry calls from parents and teachers.
  4. between this and the Anime, you'll be the worst dad ever Well, I'm not planning on having kids, but if I do he's not going to believe in Santa. it's cute that a 16 year old thinks he has his future figured out I wouldn't call "not planning on having kids" planning out my future. Unless I accidently knock up a chick, which I doubt is going to happen. *In before you can't get [expletive] or something to that extent*
  5. between this and the Anime, you'll be the worst dad ever Well, I'm not planning on having kids, but if I do he's not going to believe in Santa.
  6. I think Santa is stupid. When I have a kid and he is old enough to understand, I'm going to tell him that some kids at school believe in a fictional character named santa and not to believe them.
  7. our team would be Soriano-Dempster-Zambrano. Ha...That would be horrible One pitcher, one infielder, and one outfielder for every game. Kinda like that Bugs Bunny episode.
  8. Argh. Remember when we thought it was going to be announced that one Monday? Feels a long time ago.
  9. It's in the insider portion, so you have to be an ESPN insider to view it. This is the link to the start of the article but you can't access the Peavy portion/the whole thing without an insider account. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3744124&name=olney_buster&action=upsell&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fespn%2fblog%2findex%3fentryID%3d3744124%26name%3dolney_buster Can you copy and paste the relevent portion?
  10. Well, to begin with, regression to the mean is almost always a good assumption. Then add in age, difference in workload, etc. and it becomes an even even better one in this case. Yeah, Dempster's always been sorta wild and last year he really cut down on that (the one playoff game notwithstanding). I'm def. afraid he'll walk more people in 2009, which will make it very hard to duplicate 2008. I thought Dempster walked too many people in the beginning of the season. Of course, that could just be me happening to watch the wrong games he pitched.
  11. I love how people are already assuming Peavy will be part of the 2009 rotation.
  12. Is that with hitting or just pitching? What's his pitching+hitting combined VORP? (I just read Baseball Between the numbers: why everything you know about the game is wrong by baseball prospectus, so I'm into sabermetrics now).
  13. Who will the Giants be trading Howry to for that to happen? I mean, maybe the Giants could...make the playof- *gets shot*
  14. Watch him get the save in the clinching game 3 of the 2009 NLDS.
  15. Just trade him to us so we can start gloating about having the best rotation in baseball (assuming Dempster does well).
  16. Except he doesn't play for the Cardinals.
  17. "Soto politely requested being left off the ballots; a survey of the voters indicates he would have received all ten votes on every ballot."
  18. 25 degrees is nothing. I've always been against letting more teams into the playoffs. Agreed, this isn't the NBA.
  19. Peavy-Halladay-Zambrano-Harden-Dempster LETS DO THIS
  20. Does he know how to spell his name?
  21. I heard that the Dempster signing doesn't necessarily mean we will quit pursuing Peavy. Peavy-Zambrano-Harden-Dempster-Lilly...*drool*
  22. I think you have an extra syllable in line 2 Kos-kays in-ter-pre-ter sucked. 7 syllables Grammar pwn.
  23. Huh? What have YOU heard? I think he's just jumping the gun a bit.
