  1. I can't believe I have sat here and read all 121 pages of this thread while studying for my torts exam.... although, I would have to say that the last 30 or so have been the best!! :D
  2. Whoopee... the Cubs play... can't wait... or maybe I can. Anyways, it's the sucks vs. the Nationals, I'm on vacation at the Coast with a crappy 56k connection and I don't really care about baseball, but here's your obligatory game thread. Mods feel free to add info as needed. With my bad connection, its too much work to make this any more detailed.
  3. Ok... we have had no offense for several games and our best pitcher so far this year just lost his first game... time for these guys to get fired up and win 5 or 6 in a row!!!!!!! The Cubs turn to the lefty Hill, another youngster, who has been brilliant for Iowa so far this season. If he can keeps his walks under control like he has in Ioan then he will certainly turn some heads and keep the Arizona offense from doing too much damage. Given that the young guys (other than Maddux) are really the only reason the Cubs are still above .500 I truly expect that Hill will keep the youth movement going strong. Meanwhile, the snakes will send out the ex-cub Juan Cruz who looked pretty solid in his first start last week. However, I suspect that his overwhelming desire to beat the Cubs, the first team to trade him, will lead to the trademark wildness and stamina issues that caused him to be traded in the first place. My prediction is that Hill posts 6 solid innings while Cruz doesn't make it out of the 5th and the Cubs win this one 6-2. GO CUBS!!! The starters: Rich Hill 0-0 0.00 http://cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/448179.jpg vs. Juan Cruz 0-0 2.65 http://cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/407297.jpg
  4. If you're coming to Fresno for the games look me up. I plan to go to at least three of those games if I can, although will be taking the wife to at at least one.
  5. I picked this tidbit off on cubs.com---I know, I know, but---and I don't know how credibility is it, but....I think it should be interesting debate. Would anybody here at least consider a Felix Pie for Howie Kendrick trade? Is this the exact quote of an AP news release? I can't believe this to be real as the spelling and grammar are horrible. I'm betting this to be a fake.
  6. Well, this qoute from the Sun-Times tells me that the Cubs may be leaning towards a 12 man staff again once they need a 5th starter.
  7. I guess the question about the 12 or 11 pitchers will be answered when they need a 5th starter. Will then send down a pitcher or a position player at that time.
  8. Taken from the Sun-Times article: Also, in regards to Miller going on the 60 day DL, he appears to only be a week to 2 weeks behind Wood, which means he will be ready by early May at the latest I believe so keeping him out until June seems unlikely.
  9. Rather than start a new thread, I'll post this here since we are already talking about the 40 man roster. According to Bruce Miles the Cubs have to put Wade Miller on the 40 man by opening day which means that if Dusty wants to keep his star outfielder Marquis Grissom, we would have to cut two from the 40 man roster. Obviously Wellmeyer could be one but who would be the other? Other interesting notes about the possible final roster are that the Cubs appear to be going with 11 pitchers and 14 hitters (finally! no more 12 pitchers) and and that Pagan appears to have the inside track on one of the backup OF slots. Mike Kiley in the Sun-Times seems to concur in these thoughts as well.
  10. I don't see the Mets on his list of teams and I really don't think that he longs to go back to New York and play in the media circus of the world given his past performance in the Bronx. If I had to guess from his list of teams I would say Arizona since it's closest to the West Coast, where I believe he prefers to stay, as well as the Arizona media isn't exactly the bloodthirsty type that will criticize his every bad game.
  11. Jeff Weaver is an alumni of our local university, Fresno State, which held it's annual alumni game yesterday. From today's Fresno Bee comes this info: I wonder how much interest we have in him and visa-versa. A one deal may not be bad but, unless they are not counting on Wood being in the rotation at all this year, I'm not sure we really need him as either Rusch or Williams (more Williams than Rusch in my opinion) would be ok for the 5th starter role this year. Thoughts?
  12. OK, I skipped this last year hoping that my exclusion would help the Cubs, which backfired obviously. So, I shall now try again. Count me in.
  13. Why would he do that? He would do it to get out of a bad situation. The Cubs may even offer a little sweetener. I look for them to make a huge push here. Bruce, do you think it would have to involve both Hill and Pie or would one of them with say Cedeno and a couple of other lower prospects be enough?
  14. This article actually indicates a second meeting took place on Tuesday as the Sun-Times article was referring to a meeting that occurred a month ago in Los Angeles. Does this mean that the Cubs are close to acquiring Bradley?
  15. Well my beloved Dogs didn't say die, but I have to disagree with that last pass attempt. If it's me, I keep moving the ball and take down the clock with the hope that I get the TD and the conversion is the final play of the game, or at least with about 10 seconds left or less. Oh well, Fresno showed that they can hang with ANYBODY in the country and they just need someone to help get them out of the pathetic WAC conference! Go Dogs!! Good game!!!
  16. TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHDDDDDDDDDDOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. DOGS BALL!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. It ain't over yet!!! Go Dogs!!!
  19. Look at that return!! Go Dogs!!
  20. Don't count out my Bulldogs yet!
  21. GO DOGS!!!! FRESNO STATE!!!
  22. uuummm... only 5 times in your life... I have to say that this makes me really scared of your toenails and am guessing that you use a chainsaw to trim them.
  23. Thought this was interesting... As long as we are not giving up much and the Reds are picking up a lot of deferred salary, then I guess I'm ok with it.
  24. Well, this from Rotoworld gets me thinking... What if Hendry is not really focused on Soriano? What if the media just assumes it's Soriano since it's known that Hendry is talking with the Rangers? With the acquistion of Nevin the Rangers have too many bats and Soriano is not the only one the Rangers could be open to dealing. I have no objection to Mench in leftfield! God, just let it not be Hidalgo please!
  25. As I pointed out earlier... White Sox lead MLB with 36 Sacrafice Flys. Cubs are 26th with 22. That's 14 runs right there. Cubs can't execute with a runner at third and less than 2 outs and it's extremely frustrating because it's an elementary part of the game! :x
