  1. The insults are to stop all around or else the thread will be locked.
  2. Are you kidding me? Then what the hell happened? He was there, under it...do you honestly think he just had a mental collapse and couldn't handle it? It was obviously lost in the sun. oh my. Oh my, what? oh my, wrigley23 thinks it's crazy to blame the sun for the flyball soriano lost in the sun. come to think of it, add soriano's failure to be immune from the sun's rays as another reason to move him to 1b. Sorry, I thought it was at me. Logical assumption, since it was you he was repling to.
  3. The Pirates are no slouches. Apart from games against the Cubs they have a winning record. So it's anything but a given that the Cardinals would beat up on them.
  4. It was a late ST 3-team trade. We got Bynum, the Ranhgers got Koronka, and the A's got some minor league pitcher I beleive. Look up two posts. :D
  5. That would be the equivalent of the Bulls asking Michael Jordan to accept a trade if he wants long-term job security because they have to move an overpaid, lesser player to his position. You don't move one of the best players at a position to make room for a lesser player; you have things backwards.

    Week 9

Maybe V-Mart or Delmon Young. Combined they have six fewer HRs than Fielder has by himself.
  7. I believe the Cubs control him through 2010. He did spend some of 2004 in the majors, but I doubt it was enough for him to be a "super two," so I elieve his arbitration-eligible years would be 2008 through 2010.
  8. Fortunately the streak of winning at the top of the organizational ladder continues.
  9. IT'S NICE TO BE IMPORTANT, BUT MORE IMPORTANT TO BE NICE.
  10. I think it's more likely he realizes he'll be out of a job but still collecting his $8 million salary.
  11. Even though it was a couple years later I think the signing of Mel Rojas also belongs in this list.
  12. The trade that sent Koronka to Texas and brought Bynum to the Cubs was a very late spring training trade (as in the day before the regular season started, I think) in 2006. It was actually a three-team trade between the Cubs, A's, and Rangers. The Cubs sent Koronko and a PTBNL (later settled in cash) to the Rangers. The Rangers sent Juan Dominguez to the A's. And the A's sent John Reinecker to the Rangers and Bynum to the Cubs. You're right about it being very late in Spring Training; it was March 31.
  13. The trade that really hurt the Cubs was trading Lee Smith for Calvin Schiraldi. If that trade isn't made the Williams trade would have been unnecessary. I think the Sutcliffe trade was good and the Williams trade bad.
  14. I didn't realize he even still had any options remaining. Too bad Hendry didn't think of that idea (take Dusty's toys away from him).
  15. Even Edmonds himself probably knows that he is done. But he's not stupid enough to retire as long as someone else is stupid enough to give him a job. Exactly, if he retires he doesn't get what is left of his 8 million! I know 8M would keep me in the game. But what if he doesn't officially retire, just no team gives him a job this year. He still gets his full salary, right? I wonder if anyone would pick him up if Hendry cut him. He's kind of like Mahoney in Police Academy, he can't quit because he'd lose his money (or, like Mahoney, go to jail), but he's trying to get himself fired (kicked out) so he doesn't have to such anymore. That's my point. If the Cubs DFA him and no one picks him up, he still gets his money as long as he doesn't officially retire this year, right? Yes. The Cubs would have to pay the minimum salary for the remainder of the year and the Padres would be stuck with the rest of it.
  16. Exactly. My objection isn't about who WOULD be playing 1B, but rather who WOULDN'T. I think who's on first. No, Hu's on first (at least he was the other day against the Cubs as a pinch runner). :D
  17. Even Edmonds himself probably knows that he is done. But he's not stupid enough to retire as long as someone else is stupid enough to give him a job.
  18. I'd be happy to accommodate that.
  19. I remember a few years back a manager (I don't remember who) was asked about bullpen roles, and his response was "rolls are for breakfast."
  20. You just accounted for 163 games in a 162 game season. :D He's predicting an extra road win in a one-game playoff to finish the season. Yeah, that's it. As a result of the coin toss the Cubs had a choice between two home games or one road game, and they chose the road game. The Cardinals beat the Brewers, then the Cubs beat the Cardinals 4-0 (behind a no-hitter by Marquis and a grand slam by Edmonds) to win the three-way tie breaker. :D
  21. Exactly. My objection isn't about who WOULD be playing 1B, but rather who WOULDN'T.
  22. Francisco Acosta and Jose Severino will likely be on different DSL teams. They're both worthy of being in the AZL but they fought each other a few months ago and got sent back to the DR. Sounds like the Dominican version of Zambrano vs. Barrett or Ryu vs. Sisco.
  23. And why would a Cub fan PAY for that torture?
  24. Was commenting on the title of the article and a Chicago paper butchering his name. Not the content. And not just a Chicago paper, but the one that owns the Cubs. You'd think they'd know how his last name is spelled.
