  1. yes. thats kind of what I would have liked the Cubs to do with him Thats what the Cubs would have liked too really? I guess I missed that. I understood that line of reasoning to be a prevailing thought on the board, but not nec Hendry's intentions. The Cubs offered him a 1 year deal with a team option. Prior turned it down. ic

  3. I'm not talking about inside the stadium. Petco won't let me light up anywhere on the stadium grounds. I have to exit the stadium entirely to light up. And I'm not going to do it. ahh...
  4. well, I didnt even post there, so that makes 2 of us
  5. how many parks still allow smokers? cant be many...?
  6. No. Prior didn't want to be with the Cubs anymore. Whether he has legitimate reasons for wanting to leave is unknown, but it really doesn't matter. The Cubs only controlled Prior for 1 more year, and I'm sure Prior would have done his final year respectfully and in honor of his contract. The Cubs didn't want to do that, so it appears to be a mutual split. your just saying that cuz you'll get to see him pitch on a reg basis

  8. you just ruined my morning coffee thanks man.
  9. How else are you going to grade a player, especially at the amatuer levels? I think it would make sense to stop pretending those are the 5 tools that matter, and implying they are of equal value. But one thing I've never understood is how somebody can be described as having the tool of being able to hit for average. I'm assuming that's just a matter of having hit for a high average in his career, but that's not scouting, that's looking at results. The hitting for power tool is self explanatory, you can see when a guy hits the ball he hits it far. Speed is easy. So's the arm. Defense is subjective, but I assume it's more or less watching a guy play defense and judging how good you think he is at it. Presumably, all those things pretty much translate, except for hitting for average. Anyway, how else could you grade a player? I don't know, but there has to be a better way. maybe by tweaking what is thought of as a "tool"? idk..
  10. what? with all the $$$ Tim is paying you? The Dragon's store won't ship to the US. lol, but you've tried, thats whats important...
  11. seriously? my guess if it was someone who had played for the Cubs recently would be Cliff Floyd, which for several years would be nice

  13. yea but one guy we love one guy we hate and want to go away ( I use "we" as in me, and anyone else who loves Cuban/hates Marriotti)

  16. I have to ask, are you NOT goony? I really thought you were, and if not my appologies to you both...

  18. No way in one of the corners, easily in center. 1908, DID YOU BUY THAT JERSEY IN YOUR AVATAR?
  19. I was pointing out that the "tools" themselves may be stupid and may need to be adjusted for today's game, but the idea of understanding players on a "five tool" kind of notion isnt
  20. pointing out the physical ability of a player and suggesting he has potential isnt stupid promoting him soley on that basis is That's not the stupid part. The stupid part is that the tools are dumb, seemingly chosen completely arbitrarily, and there's an incredible disparity among them in importance. 5 tools: arm speed batting ave defense batting power granted, the two tools "speed" and "defense" really could be grouped together, as speed can help ones defense especially in the outfield, and the fact the tools have no way to be weighted against each other, I still think the notion of defining players on sometype of scale has some validity
  21. like adam everett? What? I meant to quote this part of your statement: "Even if he had a gold glove on top of that arm, he'd still suck because he can't hit is way out of a paper bag" basically saying that like Everett, would his defense (if he had a good arm) make up for his hitting? its really more of a question
