  1. pretty sure he called plays in 2005 (his last year as HC) as well, Linehan had moved on at that point I believe
  2. Yea, I agree. I have no issues with keeping Lovie, or letting him be part of the GM search
  3. Way I see it. The Bears job is clearly the best available GM job. - Raiders need a change to the entire organizational culture. They have consistently been one of the most inconsistent and undisciplined team in the league. Oh and they have no draft picks to use anytime soon to improve the team. - The Rams have quietly been rumored to be an option for moving back to LA. They may or may not have a franchise QB. Bradford has missed most of 2 of the last 3 seasons due to injury (going back to OU). They have several holes on the team and need a new coaching staff. - The Colts are an interesting job, but does anyone really want to be the GM that screws up the Luck/Manning situation? Trade Manning and watch him win with another team would be damning. Keep both, sit Luck for a year and waste a bunch of money that could be spent on other positions is a bad idea waiting to happen. Trading the pick would bring a huge haul, but Luck could go somewhere and turn into what the Colts had with Manning. They also have several holes to fill, some very key FAs (Garcon, Wayne, Mathis) and not a lot of money to play with. - The Bears have money to play with. They do have some stability on the coaching staff. They have a franchise QB. A team that went to the NFCC game a year ago and was on their way to 10 wins with a healthy QB. Have a large market, 4 draft picks in the top 82, and a decent amount of money to play with next year. mckenzie interviewing makes me hopeful that he's available to interview. I just hope he holds out long enough for the Bears to get themselves together in order to interview him
  4. The Bears rarely play a cover2 anymore, not a true cover 2. Besides, A weighted defensive efficiency having them as the #1 defense says whatever the are doing, they are doing it well (sneakys football outsiders)
  5. you should voo-doo doll Stafford
  6. So, has Washington signed him yet , leaving Theo to knee-jerk into trading away Garza for 3 mid level guys from Oakland?
  7. then call me ignorant because cutler throwing was the key the whole time and remains the key. Without cutler they can't do anything, regardless of forte or no forte yes. The bears had plenty of success running after Cutler went down and still couldnt win
  8. I don't think that's accurate
  9. I was replying to you and all the others ripping the Martz supposedly overly pass happy offense. I think you implied strongly you thought the Bears were passing way too much and that just doesn't make any sense to me. I never ripped Martz being pass happy. I ripped him for his playcalling and playcalling only. I know you won't re-read the thread because you don't want to be proven wrong, but I never once said Martz passed too much. raw, I'm completely confused what point you are trying to make. if it was what the bears should have done in the last 6 games of the season, how the hell does that have anything to do with this offseason thread? Resign Forte?
  10. you [expletive] IDIOT
  11. I was late, but heard all of George's. He basically talked about the structure, ownership hires president/CEO, president/CEO hires GM with consultation from ownership, GM hires coach with consultation from president/CEO, ownership. This was Phillips call, he came to George with the idea of firing Angelo and keeping Lovie. George provided his opinion and that of the rest of ownership and allowed Ted to make the move. It sounds to me like they are going to be hiring a guy who can work with Lovie (that's fine by me), as opposed to some Bill Parcells power hungry type. That GM will have a year or two to live with Lovie before he can decide to keep him, or go with somebody else. And again, that works for me. Get a real OC who is up to the challenge and a personel guy who will address offensive line and WR and this team can be right back in the playoffs next year, no question. it's sad when an accountant knows we aren't making good personnel decisions before or GM realizes it
  12. missed this post, thanks
  13. Can someone paraphrase what he says?
  14. Over Linehan? pretty sure he did for at least 2 of those years.
  15. it's definitely going to be mckenzie don't jinx us with your [expletive] "my teams" curse. Just shut up and happily whistle Dixie.
  16. Mike Tice here we come Also, I believe Tice called plays while he was the HC in MN
  17. That's a personel issue. So are we throwing it just to throw it or are we throwing it because we're good at it? That's my point. It's a passing league, but the Bears shouldn't be passing just because everyone else is. They suck at it, so they should run more because they were actually good at it. the bears suck at passing? jay cutler WAS the offense for the past 3 years. he was all alone fighting zombies on an alien homeworld and he was good at it. Jared Allen is pretty freaky looking. BJ Raji too.
  18. That's a personel issue. So are we throwing it just to throw it or are we throwing it because we're good at it? That's my point. It's a passing league, but the Bears shouldn't be passing just because everyone else is. They suck at it, so they should run more because they were actually good at it. we are good at it, we have a QB capable of it at a high level, if he gets some help. Becoming a running team neuters the offense
  19. The Bears need to throw with Cutler, focusing on the run game is pointless. They need at least 1 more solid olineman, and a legitimate #1 WR, but the aren't far from being a very good passing team. Having a franchise QB is the biggest step, having a competent GM is the next. Even Martz could have been successful here if Angelo wasn't so stuck in 1st gear
  20. that's great. Who is he?
  21. No to billick Todd Haley please
  22. the TE position just seems to be a poor reason to criticize martz. if you're going to criticize him, criticize him for something else. I just hate that we had to trade away a pretty good young TE that wanted to be here and had good chemistry with the QB so that we could utilize Martz for one more season. Now we don't have Martz and I'm sure one of the things the new OC is going to want is a pass catching TE. That was probably my biggest complaint, because I didn't think Martz was going to be back. Either he'd have a good year and be in-line for some college head coaching gig, or he'd have a bad year an be fired. I hated that Olsen deal. don't worry, the next guy can trade Carolina a 2nd rdr to get him back. But actually, the first complaint a new OC will have is where the hell are our wide receivers???
  23. Norv for OC and you might have something
