  1. but how many wins? 8-0 in his last 10 starts. It's on the front of ESPn MLB page right now. Here's a link ... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/notebook?page=bbtn
  2. Anyone who grew up playing sports and can still remmeber what it was like know chemistry is a real thing. Every year in high school the team who gelled right before sectionals won. Its just knowing how each reacts and therefore being able to predict what each will do and how to treat a teammate who is upset or struggling. I tihnk it plays a lesser role in the pro's because there is a much bigger sense of this a business but it still is there. Just about every college coach and high school coach talk about it at least once a year.
  3. what happened that really sucks if true
  4. That very well may be the reason but plenty of spanish speaking guys joke around and seem to have fun all the time. Papi and Manny immediately come to mind.
  5. Yeah my friend isn't bright. He argued Mussina should be an all-star when he was 10-5 even though his ERA was 3.8. Worst part is he's a baseball fanatic. You know, Andy can read all this. It's not Andy. Andy and I argue over Notre Dame-Purdue crap (I can't recall any recurring Cub arguments other than Theriot at the beginning of the season). Andy and this friend have also argued over ERA-Wins. Less in person like I have; much more so on Facebook walls.
  6. Aye, he's a good back who doesn't get enough respect. They're saying he could team up with Bush if Stecker and Duece are good to go. I expect Bush to lineup wide some this year with Deuce and maybe another RB in the backfield. They could have Deuce, Pierre/Stecker, Bush, Colston, Shockey, five linemen, and Brees in some formations. They could run reverses with Bush, regular runs, or regular pass play.
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/index Go to the bottom right and look at the poll. They most likely omitted them by still they are who i would vote for and they aren't even one of the choices. I see a poll like this on ESPN about once a week which makes me think interns create them and no one really proofs them.
  8. I don't know why the Twins want to burn the bridge and make it get to the point that he just won't play until he's traded or something along those lines because with those numbers its obvious what they are doing. Plus MLB could step in and punish the Twins for doing this.
  9. By watching the games and how they act while playing and not playing. By listening to what they say. Is this serious? Not really. I don't think anyone can tell without being in the clubhouse. I will say though that Theriot seems to realize how lucky he is to be where he's at. Cedeno isn't as fun going as Theriot but that doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate where's he's at or tries less.
  10. By watching the games and how they act while playing and not playing. By listening to what they say.

  12. you got to have a cool steady hand to do that
  13. This is an example of someone who gets stuck on fancy statistics rather than ones that truely matter. He gets on base and bats towards the top of the order most games. He has the 9th best OBP in the majors.
  14. I have friend who argues this constantly. He fails to realize that the lower ERA the better chance that guys team has to win but if his teammates can't hit then its not his fault he doesn't get the wins. The 16-8 guy plays on a team like the Rangers with the 10-15 guy plays for a team like Washington. My firend is a Mets fan and says constantly that Johan has completely sucked this year even though he has a 3.10 ERA. He says it simply because he is 8-7.
  15. That's a great comparison thanks for sharing. BTW where you drunk when you posted it?
  16. I was wondering how Pie has been doing lately because no one has mentioned him for awhile. He's batting .338 in July with 13 RBIs and 10 runs in 16 games. Seems like he might have found his swing again. I don't see a spot open right now to promote him to but its worth noting if an outfielder were to get hurt he seems to be ready.
  17. Strike two ... one more and your out
  18. I don't think it's an issue with players "using everything up in BP." These are professional hitters. They aren't going to go out there and completely exhaust themselves on some BP swings. If that were an issue, I'm sure it would have been addressed long ago. And considering the number of games these guys have played and the number of rounds of BP they've taken in their lives, I find it very hard to believe that they are having trouble adjusting between BP pitching and game pitching. I find it hard to believe too but it's still a possibility. I was going more for using up all there good swings and by the time they get to the game their swing is a bit off.
  19. Add him to the poll, dammit. http://youtube.com/watch?v=6QPGqqLYSjg No  .........Hamil's Joker is too similar to his Goblin (either Green or Hob) character from the Spider Man cartoon series from the 90s. Who the hell wached that? I did and own every episode. Show kicked butt.
  20. It's pretty obvious why Lou is taking away BP. He says in the quote guys are doing great in BP but get to the game and forget it all. So either the players are using everything up in BP or they do well in BP and then relax or they get used to BP pitching and don't adjest enough for the real thing. Which ever it is the best solution is to take away BP for a game or two so the players only focus on game hitting.
  21. if you are referring to me I'm completely joking in this thread. I don't get into 'I told so' unless I actually know you. The only person i would ever say 'I told you so ' to on here is Andy and that's because he's my old roommate and we argued more than once over Theriot playing at the beginning of the season. And in some threads I try to injest some comedy ... especially when I am posting at 3 or 4 in the morning. If you were referring to the Op then ... cant be the OP this is the only thread hes posted in well that joke went right over your head
  22. I think the popularity has gone down for the opposite reason. 12 years ago was the second version of the Dream team, a dominant force. Over the time since then the entire international game has changed and is quite different than the NBA. Carmelo Anthony even said that he prefers international competition to the NBA. It's more of a college game now and less flashy. But the rest of the world has proven it has talent and can play a true team game. This leveled the playing field with the Americans, who could no longer dominate the game. Since the team grew worse it has gotten less coverage. On the larger issue, let's wait to pass judgment until we actually have seen more than one WBC. Give it time. The problem with WBC is it is so close to the start of the season. I would personally play in it given the chance because representing your country is a huge honor but can understand why GMs/owners/players don't with it being close to the start of the season. The other problem and its related is MLB season lasts so long that people are a bit burned out and only have enough time for the 162 regular season games + any playoff ones.
  23. That's the completed list. None of the teams I didn't check earlier have done it since 2002. I amaze my self sometimes (channelling my inner Lonestar I guess).
  24. okay never mind the Royals are truely comical. They've had 0 pitchers with 10 wins once, and only one all the other years. yes thats right since 2002 the Royals have never had more than one pitcher win 10 games and it gets worse. Other than Byrd's 17 in 2002 the highest win total is Bannister at 12 last year as a rookie.
