If it allowed them to afford Halladay, it's hardly been a dumb move. Some people were saying they could've gotten Halladay without Lee being involved, IIRC.
I think it's obvious - it's all about long term for D-Lee. He knows the Angels have Morales who'll be back next year and for many years to come. He also knows he has leverage over the Cubs since no one in the system is near ready to take over the position. So what's the point of him getting traded, more than likely not make the playoffs with a mediocre team, and potentially find a third home (teams) in about four months span?
