    I would've pissed in John Mozeliak's face if I were Albert Pujols. He's going to wind up with career numbers that are going to be better than Musial, the consensus "Greatest Cardinal Ever", and they want to offer him $5 million more than what he's making now when he's been worth an absurd amount more than that? He gave them their discount. Pay the man what he's owed, he'll be the face of your franchise for the next 50 years and you don't want this man to play for your team because he costs too much? That's okay, we'll take him (I would hope)

    I was gonna bring up Hoffman's 1999 or some of Mariano's best years. Or heck even the insane numbers Kimbrel has posted this year. But damn, I don't think anything tops that. I tried looking, couldn't find anything. I think the best I found to compete with it was Jose Mesa's 1995: 64IP 1.13ERA 46SV 58K 8ER 17BB 1.03WHIP 418ERA+

    I like Carlos Pena a lot. I like Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder better. I think this is probably the mindset of the majority of the folks around here. I don't think anyone out and out hates having Carlos Pena on the team, but when you have the opportunity to sign two players who are leaps and bounds better than him, you start hoping for him to pack his bags in favor of one of those two guys. If we miss out on the Fielder and Pujols sweepstakes and we wind up with Carlos Pena again, it will be a little disappointing because we didn't land one of the big fish, but he's not a bad consolation prize because he does have good plate discipline and is good at getting on base and this team needs a guy like that. If we wind up with him because management decided he was the better option and they did not want to pursue Fielder or Lee as a by product of that thinking? [expletive] Carlos Pena

    He's not a FA, he'd be a trade candidate. The question I'm proposing is would he be worth a gamble if he didn't cost TOO much in terms of expendable players/prospects for his last year of team control in 2012?

    Hmmmmmm... I wonder how much the Twins value him now after a rocky injury filled season. At the beginning of the year he looked primed for another good season but his year this year has been pretty bad. Coupled with the fact that he's under team control for only one more year, has injury issues, and is coming off a poor season, could he be a buy low trade candidate in the offseason? I recall that the Twins were asking for a lot when discussing a deal with the Yankees earlier in the season, but surely that price has dropped substantially given his results, yeah?

    Hell no. Old Hoss Radbourn's achievement goes beyond wins. How the hell did he keep his arm attached to throw so many innings? You can say that about damn near every pitcher up until the late 80's. Did technology, money, and medical advancements ruin the age of the 300 IP starter? There were so many guys who could do that like it was nothing. What happened to our baseball players that has them not doing that? Owners worried about their investment? Advanced medical technology picks up on smaller injuries that guys used to pitch through? Wasn't there also a switch over to a 5-man rotation some time in the 80's? Weren't clubs usually ran with a 4-man rotation prior to that?

    MLB Network's Prime 9 did an episode on the best pitching seasons of all time and I want to say Pedro's 1999 was first? If it wasn't first it was definitely 2nd His 2000 campaign was probably better though, but he had less wins and strikeouts and as a result people think his 1999 is better. 1999: 23-4 2.07 ERA 213.1 IP 5 CG 1 SHO 313 K 0.92 WHIP 243 ERA+ 2000: 18-6 1.74 ERA 217.0 IP 7 CG 4 SHO 284 K 0.73 WHIP 291 ERA+

    On the topic of what the Brewers will do if Fielder leaves? Replace him with Mat Gamel, probably. Prior to this year he had played 5 total games at 1B since he was drafted in 2005. This year? He's played 100 games there. He's also hitting the snot out of the ball to the tune of a .321/.383/.560 slash line. By moving Gamel to 1B for the first time in his career the last year they have Prince Fielder is a pretty telling sign that they're anticipating Fielder not coming back, and that Gamel will be the solution should they not be able to find an adequate replacement via FA or trade. On the topic of Teixeira in the OF to make room for Fielder, that is stupid. And the fact that it's being actively debated is pretty stupid. If you're going to do dream scenarios of Fielder on the Yankees while Teixeira is still there and you're actually proposing the idea of moving him to LF, you're just bored. If Fielder goes to the Yankees he's DH or nothing. They will not move a gold glove caliber first baseman to LF to make way for a terrible defensive and overweight first baseman when they have a DH position that is currently being occupied by a terrible hitter who probably won't be back next year.

    Fangraphs is placing his value at $18.3 million so far this season. His offensive numbers are really good, but not elite, but considering that he has such a high value and WAR placed on him, I imagine his defense is second to none? I have not seen any highlights of him so I wouldn't know, I'm just assuming he's arguably (or unarguably) the best OF defender in all of baseball?

    Wait, what? Can't Marlon Byrd or somebody that we're already paying "groom" Brett Jackson? Keeping Johnson will pay off as long as he can groom Brett Jackson into a .347/.385/.539 line offensively. I don't want Reed Johnson grooming Brett Jackson to have an OBP 40 points higher than his average, it will mean he has given up all his patience at the plate. Brett Jackson is going to be the second coming of Jesus. Reed Johnson should feel privileged he'll get the opportunity to witness him play

    I think 2009 he was blaming his poor performance on the new ballpark's dimensions Then in 2010 he bounced back nicely This year I think he's been hampered by injuries (obviously, only 70 games played)

    Who the [expletive] is Dan Evans? Except the Cubs, so if he brought the very basic and simple minded approach to having a better team OBP they can be a much better team. Remember when we had a really good OBP in 2008? And we were [expletive] awesome? Remember when we stopped doing that with practically the same players and we sucked? Yeah. I'm not sure why the Cubs have missed that over the last couple of years and not hammered this into the players' mindset.
