  1. Randy Wells' FIP this year was 5.11 and his xFIP was 4.44. He's been worth .2 wins this season. His BABIP is actually .275 which means he's actually been luckier than normal. Wells has been terrible this year, and even if he was halfway decent, he still doesn't quite compare to the talent level that Nolasco has. Nolasco is kind of the exact pitcher we should look to acquire to help rebuild the rotation with what we can all assume is the inevitable departure of Zambrano, if the Marlins are willing to move him for the right price, of course. And if the Cubs, for whatever reason, decide to bring Pena back and not pursue Fielder or Pujols, that will save them plenty of money to also tackle Wilson's contract as well if they choose to pursue him. A rotation of: Wilson Garza Nolasco Dempster Cashner Would be a pretty damn fine rotation
  2. He's been far greater than his numbers indicate. He's had some seriously bad luck (.331 BABIP, 2nd highest in the majors), but he's got a 3.53 FIP and 3.55 xFIP and a 3.4 WAR (according to FranGraphs) and if you care to put stock into their "Dollars" metric, he's been worth $15.5 million this year, but it sounds like the Marlins are souring on him because of his traditional numbers being so pedestrian. Seems like this has been his issue for the last 3 years: 2009: 5.06 ERA // .317 BABIP // 3.35 FIP // 3.23 xFIP // 4.3 WAR // $19.2m Dollars 2010: 4.51 ERA // .316 BABIP // 3.86 FIP // 3.37 xFIP // 2.5 WAR // $9.9m Dollars 2011: 4.67 ERA // .331 BABIP // 3.53 FIP // 3.55 xFIP // 3.4 WAR // $15.5m Dollars Sounds like he's the victim of some terrible defense, might be a good person to try and swindle if they're seriously tired of his performance. Maybe attempt some sort of package surrounding Zambrano? He's currently signed through 2013 and stands to make $9M next season and $11.5M in 2013
  3. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/7012272/chicago-cubs-aramis-ramirez-only-wants-sign-contender Didn't we try trading him to contenders and he used his 10-5 rights to veto the trades?
  4. I believe it also says they may take off a few years from their offer, while nit increasing the average annual salary. I'm not exactly sure what kind of power play the Cardinals think they're making with this, but they're [expletive] idiots if they think he'll resign for that
  5. Just like Communism Do you realize that you're ruining the joke by explaining it? Blergh. Remove it then, I saw your post and immediately went to reply to make the reference :/ Remove these immediately so the joke continues
  6. Is it wrong for me to think the Marlins are huge pieces of [expletive] for knowing about this for several months and only doing something about it AFTER he got busted by authorities?
  7. Literally... http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7000669/boston-red-sox-erik-bedard-served-new-york-yankees-fan-start
  8. Gentlemen, hide your boners. There are those Hanley Ramirez-esque numbers we were all praying for. I sure hope he can carry this pace into the next season
  9. Maybe Fielder for DH, but the Angels have a first base logjam. Trumbo, despite his terrible OBP, is putting up a 116 OPS+ which is respectable, especially for a rookie. Morales was a premier bat when healthy and he should, ideally, be good to go next year, and they just draft C.J. Cron, who has injury concerns of his own but has so far in 34 games in the minors this year (his first) he crushed 13 homers and OPS'd 1.000. Small sample size, but he's a big bat who will be coming through their system. Going after Pujols or Fielder would probably be smart for just about any team, but the Angels are one team that probably doesn't need one of them as much as other teams do, and on top of that I'm not so sure they can take on that type of contract with the big money they have tied up in their players already.
  10. Picked this up on MLBTR. Probably just talk, but still. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/6998951/aramis-ramirez-believes-done-chicago-cub
  11. Stay classy, Ryan Theriot.
  12. Stud Hub, huh? Sounds kinky.
  13. Walt Jocketty & TLR? http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/16252/cubs-future-could-be-the-cardinals-past
  14. [irrational Crane Kenney hate]
  15. https://picasaweb.google.com/milehighirish/WrigleyFieldTriangleBuilding?fgl=true&pli=1#5636059634340762066 What's with the gnome carrying around a sack?
  16. Good for Keith Law, baseball analyst. 81 on Metacritic and 89% on Rotten Tomatoes thus far
  17. Let him walk, sign Pujols for 3B and Fielder for 1B. YAY!
  18. Just out of curiosity, where does Starlin rank among outs created?
  19. Carpenter has been the product of some bad luck this year. His .318 BABIP is the highest it has been since he was with the Blue Jays. Has a FIP and xFIP of 3.13 and 3.40 compared to his 3.75 ERA. His general numbers suggest he's been league average this year (97 ERA+, 1.29 WHIP) but he's been better than advertised. This is a good deal for the Cardinals. And they freed up a few million to spend in the offseason as a result (posturing to pay Pujols big?).
  20. Or how about this: Ricketts: "WHAT ARE YOU DOIN'?" New GM: "I'm havin' a Stella D'oro Breakfast Treat!" Ricketts: "Stella D'Oro Breakfast Treat what's that?!?" New GM: "They're these sweet crumbly little cookies YOUCANHAVEMANYTIME!!" amirite?

  22. I was unaware that the pennant was only decided on wins and losses among teams in the same league. And here I thought all these wins and losses teams got in interleague play actually counted towards their final record to determine who does and doesn't win the pennant. Silly me.
