  1. I think it really is that simple: demand drives up the prices, the annual hikes are kept under control by the PR implications.
  2. I'm just glad Wood will still be a Cub in 2008.
  3. I'd love to see that happen. I'm also curious where they'll start off Dwayne Kemp (the 19yr old Dutch 2b they signed). He's got two full years of experience in the Dutch league - I wonder how far that helped him along.
  4. By that logic, nobody on this site knows anything about baseball.
  5. Maybe he just needs a break and a fresh start at ST. I think he's been playing every winter for the last couple of years now.
  6. Good to read that Alessandro Maestri is finally getting some love. :D I hope they don't rush him; if they just let him settle in at the next level and he keeps doing what he's doing, the Cubs could indeed have a reliable in-house reliever within a year or two.
  7. Just look in another direction, Jimbo, this isn't a good idea.
  8. All these Soto's and Infante's are going to make things confusing next year.
  9. ... or just threw a couple of darts at the 2008 calendar on the office wall and jotted down the dates.
  10. Cuse maybe, but Jimbo? No way.
  11. Women's beachvolleyball (I hope).
  12. He will if he keeps up his winter form. But that isn't guaranteed, unfortunately.
  13. Alex Liddi (3b) 0/4 Alessandro Maestri: 1IP, 0H, 3BB, 2K, 0R Box score
  14. OK, thanks for the info; that move makes sense now. :D
  15. Although it's in some form of local dialect, I can hazard an educated guess: it says 19yr old Dwayne Kemp of the Sparta/Rotterdam team signed with the Cubs. Dwayne is the son of Aruban born Adonis Kemp, (a bit I can't make sense of). Adonis played for a number of years for various teams in the Netherlands, winning three championships there.(the last sentence I can't understand either). If there's anything you want to know about this kid, I can more easily search Dutch sources. I know he's a RH bat, plays 2b, made his first appearance in the league's first division in 2005 (only four games with Neptunus), played all of 2006 and 2007 there for Sparta/Feyenoord, was selected a number of times for the Dutch national youth side and his dad coaches in the Netherlands after retiring as a player there four years ago. I think I already posted his 2007 stats in another thread, but this is his stat page at the Dutch league site: Dwayne Kemp
  16. Dwayne Kemp was born 02/24/1988
  17. Let's not get carried away, now. 8-)
  18. In the mean time, it's a good reminder (and extra motivation to keep up the support) of how things would be without premium.
  19. I must be missing something: why was it necessary to add him to the 40-man? Did they risk losing him in the rule 5 draft if they didn't? And how great was that risk?
  20.   Early practice?
  21. In the case of a joint Dutch-Belgian bid, logistics would be a lot simpler than they'll be in Brasil.
  22. I doubt that will happen. The Belgian FA is a mess at the moment. Incompetent people shouldn't bid for the WC. Just my :twocents:
  23. It would have been a great surprise if they hadn't, since they were the only candidate left.
  24. Sam Fuld is having a good autumn. I wonder what the organization has planned for him.
  25. That used to be "if Zambrano starts ..."
