  1. I'm with you. While I'd hate to lose Gallagher, I don't think he's so can't-miss that we shouldn't trade him. Murton and Patterson aren't worth crying over. Roberts doesn't fill a specific need, but he gives the Cubs another good player. And they don't have enough of those. DeRosa will get his starts, and it'd be nice to have some depth in case of injury. For example, if Ramirez were to pull something and miss a few weeks, DeRosa can just slide over to replace him. Otherwise, DeRosa slides to third and Fontenot slides into the lineup. I'm not real excited about that possibility.
  2. Sometimes I read Meph and think he sounds like Napoleon Dynamite.
  3. Are these Felix Pie's? His AAA numbers.
  4. I'm not a huge Hendry fan, but a lot of the "failures" you listed can't be attributed entirely to him.
  5. The Untouchable Sam Fuld? I hear his poop is considered currency in Argentina. That doesn't sound all that intriguing to me (the Fuld in CF for 25 games thing, not the poop money part). Yeah, I'm not eager to see the Sam Fuld Experience either. Just wanted to make that reference.

  7. I'd be OK sending Pie, Marmol and Marshall to the O's for Bedard. Sign Mike Cameron to play center. Should be reasonable enough in terms of cost. He'd play great defense and provide a little pop from center -- plus, he'd no longer be able to terrorize Rich Hill.
  8. I found that pretty interesting. Well thank goodness we didn't sign Kaz Matsui.
  9. I hope Jason Marquis is named.
  10. I think it's probably an issue of race.
  11. Not that we can't speculate, but I think this is a really hard situation for us to assess. We weren't on the inside, so we don't know what has happened during the last few years. Maybe the Cubs DID mistreat him. Maybe he really was just a jerk. Maybe he was a bad teammate. Maybe the Cubs have medical info that we don't and know he won't pitch this year. Maybe Mark said there was no way he would come back in 2009. I think it's easy to fault Hendry and the Cubs for a lot of things. But I'm not sure about this one, just because there's no way the public will know the whole story. My guess is that there's probably enough blame for both sides.
  12. Hint: look at more than 2007. I know I'm new, but why is everyone so condescending and belittling around here? I wasn't trying to be. I'm really sorry if I was. You will come to find out, that's not my style at all. Wasn't necessarily aimed at you. Sorry. It just seems like there's a lot of sniping at certain times. I guess that's the nature of a message board.

  14. I'm just surprised so many people think Hill is as good as Bedard. If we're talking about value, that's another argument. I wouldn't want to trade Hill + others for Bedard because Hill is under our control for so long, but Bedard was a lot better than Hill using any metric out there. But if, like someone else mentioned, we're just talking about who is a better pitcher, it seems clear it's Bedard.
  15. Tampa finished right in the middle of the pack last year with 782 runs, one run behind Cincinnati.
  16. How do you figure? Bedard struck out almost 40 more batters in 13 fewer innings last year, against much tougher hitters. Minor league numbers, my friend. This was on the low end of what we should have expected from Hill's K/9, wheras this seems to be a fluke high for Bedard. I disagree, but that's fine.
  17. How do you figure? Bedard struck out almost 40 more batters in 13 fewer innings last year, against much tougher hitters. How so? AL hitters- .270/.338/.423 NL hitters- .266/.334/.422 He made two starts against Boston, two against Cleveland, three against the Yankees. That's a decent chunk of his innings. Hill pitched in the worst division in baseball.
  18. Good analysis. Like I said when I brought this up, I don't know a lot about hitting mechanics. I feel better hearing this.

  20. I think it's fair to say that Scott is a good bit better than Murton. He's got an .882 OPS so far in the majors, and he's shown a lot more power than Murton has.
  21. I know it's grainy YouTube video, and I'm not that great at this kind of stuff, but does his swing look a little long? In some clips it seems fine, but other times it looks like it drags a little bit. If I'm wrong, someone just tell me and I'll go back to the break room and get another Krispy Kreme and assume Fukudome is going to put up that .900-plus OPS.
  22. I try to abide by the rule that Dave Kaplan doesn't know what he's talking about. Hasn't gotten me in trouble yet.
  23. That childhood ADD problem is going to haunt me at NSBB, I fear. :?
