  1. Shouldn't be a ball if the elbow is in the strike zone though.
  2. Not to be overly picky here.... but the CUBS (Colts, Orphans, White Stockings) are in their 130th season in the National League, but they've only had player numbers on their uniforms for 75 years now. That being said, look how many retired numbers they have compared to the Cardinals, Dodgers, etc. Granted, teams like the Yankees have had far more legendary players, but only 4 retired by the Cubs? Have they lacked superstardom that much in all their years?
  3. Dodgers are starting D.J. Who Now? NL Wildcard Standings as of 8/29: CHC and CIN are tied. This is all you need to know.
  4. It's a shame that it's taken so long for Biggio's elbow to heal. I mean, that's why he's wearing the plate mail on his arm, right? Maybe Biggio, Kendall and Bonds all go to the same lousy elbow doctor
  5. It will be interesting. The Cubs are probably the stingiest team with retiring numbers. I mean, 120 years and just 4 retired numbers? Three of which were from the same era? One of which isn't Fergie Jenkins? I agree that there are points given for continued involvement with the team. I mean, if Santo wasn't a radio announcer all this time, do you really think he'd be up there? Frankly, I don't think he would be up there now if it wasn't for his health. I believe the Cubs would have waited until/if he was inducted into the HoF before retiring his jersey if they thought he'd live 40 more years.
  6. Doesn't matter. I think Lee could win the triple crown and still not win the MVP
  7. Good. We need just one game without any complaining. They score too much
  8. You know what's pitiful? EVERY TEAM above us lost Saturday except Florida. And Maddux pitched a complete game. Always finding new ways to make my head hurt ](*,)
  9. BTW: Lawton batted 8th and played RF today. He had a hit, a walk, a strikeout and a run scored. Isn't that about what he did for the Cubs over the past 3 1/2 weeks?
  10. Griffey is for real this year with his 32 dingers. Would the Sox have to give up someone like Rowand do you think? Despite having the Dunn/Kearns/Pena trifecta in their OF in Cincy, none are a true CF.
  11. Yeah, I was watching that game when he threw it out. Didn't look good.
  12. NL Wild Card Standings (Start of Day, 8/28) EVERYONE ELSE ----- CHC 245.5 Best case scenario today: Massive positive tests for steroids hit all 40 men of every roster in the league except the Cubs. Cubs win by default and raise the championship banner on the same day as Ryne Sandberg's number is retired. Would result in: Hell freezing over
  13. Gotta make sure that option vests, dude. He's pitched a good game. I get so sick of hearing about his goddamned option. Well now that it's vested, you won't have to anymore. I wonder how many CG losses Maddux has in his career
  14. If Maddux plunking Willis is the GWRBI, I'm going to cry in my frappucino
  15. nice to see that I went on a Starbucks run and missed absolutely nothing.
  16. What is the Cubs record in games when Todd Walker gets hit in FOX's microphone transmitter
  17. DP to end the inning, but still some shaky play out there.
  18. Announcers "While we were distracting Jack McKeon from managing the game, we failed to show you Nomar getting another base hit"
  19. When did Hendry trade 2005 MVP Derrek Lee for 2002 Marlins Derrek Lee?
  20. And now, from the network that brought you the "glowing hockey puck", here is Todd Jones saying nothing of importance...
  21. If there is one thing this FOX telecast needs, it's more in-game advertising
  22. And how long have you lived in this alternate reality where the Cubs are good? I was hoping the sarcasm was obvious. I think the scenario in my wildcard standings post on page 1 of this thread says it all
