  1. You won't have to worry about that this year...
  2. Is it even worth it for me to sit here and follow along? Well, what else do I have to do? Sad, really
  3. but who do the guys in the truck pick? On this note, what do the Sox announcers' "Picks to click" mean? Get a hit or hit a homer? It's a stupid game if they NEVER explain the rules. I think they're right as long as their guy is either a) not arrested or b) not killed. that must be why no one ever picks the fans to click
  4. And if the Indians actually decide to play to their potential, they can be included there also. You know the Yankees and Red Sox are both going to make the postseason. They have to. I'm pretty sure it's in the baseball rule book that they both have to be in the playoffs. if they aren't, ESPN will explode

  6. let's use real numbers here: The Cardinals are 33-18 after 51 games. They have 111 left to play, so .500 from here on out is 56-55, giving them a final record of 89-73. The Cubs are currently 19-31 after 50 games. they could win the division (under this proposed scenario) by going 71-41 the rest of the way. So they are nowhere close to being mathematically out if everyone else plays .500 ball from here on out
  7. There is. it's called the other owners. Right, I meant someone who didn't have a vested interest in its own money making. Owners making decisions based on how they think a new owner will affect their bottom line is skewed reasoning to my mind
  8. There was a camera guy at Oprah whose last name was Claussen. We, of course, called him The Pickle. Most of the Oprah camera guys also do Cubs and/or Sox games. They work long hours but make big time bucks
  9. ESPN.com had an intriguing poll question the other day: Which of these teams is most likely to miss the playoffs: Yankees Red Sox Tigers White Sox Can't all get in. At least one team with a great season is going to go hom sad in October
  10. needing the other owners to approve the sale of a team is so dumb. Why can't there be a governing body within MLB to decide these things?
  11. memorial day saw me break the century mark (finally). Pujols has about 24% of my total. Delgado, Ortiz and Thomas another 40% or so. I've given up on Adrian Beltre as a bad pick but Todd Helton is really pissing me off. You play in Coors you idiot! 4 HR is not acceptable!
  12. and so long as steroids weren't banned by MLB, he wasn't technically cheating.
  13. only 12 more wins in a row and we'll be .500 again! :x :x :x :x
  14. During part of Ruth'd career, a one-hopper over the fence counted as a homer. Should we asterisk him now? Or how about the fact that Cy Young pitched from a mound over twice as high as the modern mound and from only 50 feet from home plate? Look, I hate Bonds as much as the next guy, but since there is no empirical way to prove how many homers Bonds hit with/without steroids, the asterisk thing is just sour grapes. And no matter how much we all believe he was on steroids (and despite his allegedly admitting to using them) he never tested positive for them. and even if he had, it wouldn't have mattered as steroids were not a banned substance in MLB during the time we believe he took them. I would consider it cheating, MLB did not, so a lifetime ban from the HoF has no basis.
  15. I predict that today's new way to lose will involve someone's glove catching on fire.
  16. Mark Grace and Jose Canseco can pitch in relief.
  17. the longer the losing streak, the longer before the time will be right to announce Dusty's extension...
  18. up and away, up and away, up and away
