  1. 5 words: Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano
  2. I have never been to Fenway or PNC (but want to desparately) but I don't think the Cell is anything great. I don't think Miller Park is the best ballpark but it's definately up there in my opinion. I like it much better than Oakland's park and Tampa's park. well those aren't hard to top. Shea is better than Tampa for crap's sake
  3. I was there once, back in 2001 (I think? The year with the 8 game losing streak followed immediately by the 12 game win streak) and it was the only game I've seen Kerry Wood start in person. That said, it can't hold the jock of Wrigley, Fenway, PNC.....shoot, I even like The Cell better (shudder)
  4. i said starting pitching (again) and am still in the minority
  5. http://www.photofile.com/Photos/Albums/Stadiums/MLB/Images/Miller_Park2.jpg and that's a flattering photo
  6. Really? I think you're the only person i've ever heard say that. What about it didn't you like? a) the parking sucks. If the place is sold out, they have parking for maybe 2/3 of the people. everyone else gets detoured off to god knows where. we ended up parking in some neighborhood and walking a mile (in the rain) to the park b) it's a huge concrete and plastic airport hanger. nothing warm and inviting about it at all. c) the roof was (is?) broken and they didn't open the windows Off course.... we never have that problem at Wrigley, eh? true, but Miller Park is built in the middle of a barren wasteland west of Milwaukee. They could've had 100 acres of parking had they so desired.
  7. "Superstar" is still the highest rank. No Hall of Fame rank yet.
  8. Willie Harris is 4-4 with 6 RBI's today. Coming into the game he had 12 RBI's in 180 at-bats this year. not only have the wheels comes off for Looper, but he's blown his carburetor, has a hole in his gas tank, and his brakes have locked
  9. Atlanta has 14 runs on 17 hits through 4 innings. They are beating the everloving crap out of those Red Birds
  10. I'm not getting in the middle of your Marquis debate, just wanted to point out that since June 3rd, the day after Piniella's eruption and the day his suspension began, the Cubs have averaged 5.02 runs per game. which means they aren't scoring 5+ everyday. yep. and you know what an ERA of 5.00 would mean...? if we're predicting a player's/team's future performance, what else do we have but averages? well, if we're saying he's only going to go 6 innings per start with a 5.00 ERA, that means he'd be giving up 3 1/3 runs per outing, which means 5+ runs scored would win every game (assuming the bullpen holds on) huzzah!! Marquis is gonna own the win column in the second half!!! the point is, you can't say 5 runs and a 5.00 ERA are the same. You also can't say that every game will be what the averages say
  11. i've been told that everyone regresses to the mean. i'm looking forward to jacque's 20+ home runs in the final 60 games

  14. i hated Miller Park and wouldn't go out of my way to go there again
  15. In 4,3,2,.... Eeeerrrrggghhhh He's talking about smallball. What smallball are we playing? Scoring half our runs with a home run? Getting singles and doubles? What does smallball even mean? Wasting outs with bunts, bleh. We're not playing smallball, we're playing smartball!!! well, pitching well, playing good defense and outscoring your opponents could be considered smart in some circles
  16. There are some pretty good players in Altoona. Neil Walker, Andrew McCutchen, Luis Munoz, Yoslan Herrera, Steve Pearce, , the resurrected corpse of Dewon Brazelton.....
  17. angelos would ask for zambrano, pie and ramirez to start
  18. What do we need another SP for? Every single one has done his job. Looking into a Playoff Rotation are you comfortable with anyone we have as our #3 starter. Zambrano is great, Lilly is solid, but after that I am little uncertain. Hill could easily run away with it with a solid August and September, but right now its anyone guess. I wouldn't pay a lot for another reliever unless the Reds demand Marshall in the Griffey or Dunn trades. Otherwise I'm fine with a Z, Lilly, Hill for the top three and then if Hill shows any sign of struggling, you've got Marquis and Marshall available in the pen. I'd say any of those three would be dependable for three innings or so. If we got a starter handed to us on a silver platter, though, I'd definitely be very interested. :D Won't happen... doesn't look like any good ones are going to be available. Mike Maroth just might be one of the best SP's dealt this year. What we have is better than what's going to be better. that would be the mike maroth who is 0-3, 8.17 ERA with a 57 ERA+ and 1.81 WHIP for St. Louis
  19. to be fair, his ERA is under 4.00 again after today, but yeah, he's not exactly a world champion 3rd starter Well to be even more fair, he's never been asked to be a No. 3 starter. He's been a pretty good number 5 guy IMO. Some days he gets rocked, some days he's OK, some days like today he's really good. Take a look at most teams fifth starter, not too many have an ERA under 4. Again, I'm not betting anything on any of his starts, but for a fifth starter he's been pretty good. how many teams have their 5 starter locked up for 3 years/21 mil it's sad to say but that will be the norm really soon for a fifth starter. Contracts are getting really out of control. e.g. Meche 11M per year a little much, yes, despite his career best 127 ERA+ so far

  21. I'm thinking about signing up for it for the rest of the season. :D i just got a flier in the mail telling me EI was free last week :x yeah, someone mentioned it here. it was a great week. nice that the flier came AFTER the freeview instead of before. great advertising

  23. it's the symbiotic relationship between the #3 spot and a Cub wearing #17
