  1. you can't win with that argument on this board. i've tried to explain that our favorite beleagured radio color man wasn't even one of the top 3 players on his own team, but have been shouted down ad nauseum
  2. i think we can ALL agree that there was zero reason to sign cliff floyd. none.
  3. don't get it twisted. lol. i am very excited for this series, but moreso because we are in the midst of a playoff chase than playing the cardinals alone. i will be more excited when they play milwaukee in august, probably. it's because we have more at stake than just proving a point vs saint louis. QFT
  4. Not to derail the thread, but Grudz produced very well during his time with the Cubs. Hindsight being 20/20 there is no way that any sane person would argue Hill would have been a better option. And to say that Dubois was a better option than Hollandsworth is like saying that Neifi was a better option than Macias. They both sucked. you must not have been around here back then. DuBois was the 2nd coming of Babe Ruth to some people here....
  5. i highly, Highly, HIGHLY doubt that 99% of the players out there are privy to the machinations of their GM's, much less days before a trade. people really think Krivsky called Dunn into his office and said, "hey buddy, we're probably gonna trade you. Check out this offer I got from the Cubs! Wicked, right? But just lay low, stay in the lineup, don't telal anyone...."
  6. i prefer this guy :puker: no love for :puke: ?
  7. wow is that team going to be bad
  8. don't think we can compete with either Salty (ATL) or Santana/Kotchman (LAA)
  9. as usual, these will the be the longest 8 days of the year
  10. i just don't see how a lineup of Soriano Cedeno Lee Ramirez DeRosa Murton Kendall Pie is much better than Soriano Theriot Lee Ramirez Floyd DeRosa Jones Kendall Neither look like playoff teams to me
  11. the overall team offense may have been slightly down after lofton's arrival, but how much worse would it have been had he NOT been acquired?
  12. I am hardly a Cedeno believer, but young players first breaking into the majors typically improve as time progresses. and i feel the same way about cedeno as i do about pie: they may be good big leaguers long term, but a playoff chase isn't the time to break in the rookies. i know that creates the question of "when is the right time" and right now, i don't know. Good teams break in rookies during playoff chases all the time. not when they have automatic outs from C, RF and P already it's a bit easier for the Yankees to break in a Melky Cabrera when the rest of the lineup has jeter, a-rod, matsui, giambi, sheffield and posada in it
  13. i cant' get excited. it's more fun to play st. louis when the act of defeating them will most greatly upset cardinal nation. this year, it's just kicking them while they're down (not that there is anything wrong with that)
  14. Let's just say that I was offered the job as long as I promised to take care of a couple problems. Now, go start your car. Recent photo of TT: http://www.playboy.com/blog/upload/import/wolf.jpg
  15. the Cardinals are so bad this year, it's hardly any fun to play them
  16. well, sample size, right? I would be all for calling him up and letting him play if there weren't 2 or 3 other holes in the lineup
  18. ronny cedeno had over 500 AB's last year and posted a 53 OPS+. what makes anyone think he's the answer to anything? because he's beat up on crappy PCL pitching the last few months? The team doesn't (only) need a better #8 hitter here
  19. if that's the case, it's a REALLY bad excuse, as Floyd is barely playing
  20. the people spoke, and the people wanted vance!
  21. Did you got to the Jim Hendry school of cost management? Frankly I don't care if you don't care what he makes. The fact is it matters. Smart teams get the most bang for the buck. Poorly run teams pay big money for not big production. Inefficient management is why this team has had the troubles it has had. my point was that if he's brought up and contributes, great, but the fact that he is cheap isn't what should be considered
  22. Except he's already produced in the big leagues over nearly a full season. indeed he has. why people are clamoring for the guy who DIDN'T produce in the big leagues over a full season, I just don't know. but that's another thread. also, i don't care what Murton makes salary-wise. cheap is cheap. good is good. occasionally, those two coexist also, also, for the record, i'm not actively arguing against murton being given a chance. i'm simply playing devil's advocate to everyone who sees him as a guaranteed whatever in RF
  23. To me what you have posted there is the biggest cause of the problems when people call someone a "Murton lover" or whatever (not that you are one of them). Murton is not going to be a superstar. He's not going to be great. But what he will do, if past performance is any predictor of future performance, is get on base, hit a few HRs, and hit for good average. These are all things the Cubs need. He might not be better than Floyd, but he probably will be healthier and he's cheap so the Cubs can look to spend money elsewhere. I don't think anyone thinks the Cubs are holding down a potental star, but I think they are making poor decisions. Those poor decisions started way back in the offseason. he would be fine if the team was getting power from more than two spots in the order. If Lee had 18 HR right now, then fine, stick him out there. But people can't say a) we really need more power and b) how dare we don't play Murton in RF
  24. have i mentioned that i hate comcast sports net and their limited broadcasting range?
  25. all i'm saying is that Matt Murton could be great, could be just fine, or could be Jason DuBois redux. AAA numbers are great, and can be predictive to a point, but you could make a long list of guys who did great in AAA and never made it in the bigs
