    and my point was less about comparing them statistically and more about people clamoring over a guy who is maybe 5th or 6th best on his own team. latent racism? who knows, but there is no reason at all that Theriot should be selling jerseys at such a high rate when he really is just sort of okay. he doesn't even really have much personality

    the problem with not calling Soto up until after 9/1 is that if he goes nuts hitting, great, but he can't be on the postseason roster

    Since the Cubs still have 3 against the Brewers and are less than 3 behind them, can't they theoretically have a magic number as well? They can still have a magic number regardless of how many times they play the brewers because they have the same number of losses as the brew crew. and, as such, there isn't a magic number for either team that doesn't include at least one loss by the other team (because if both teams won out, they would finish tied for first place)

    i also hate magic numbers for non-first place teams. the way i think of it, the magic number is "one win more than the most wins the second place team can possibly get".

    Trash talking Cardinals fans are generally frowned upon here, but its wolf so I guess thats ok? Lighten up, wolf is fun. This series is gonna be like a fight between two skinny teenagers. Probably neither deserves to win, but it'll be scrappy, ugly, and fun to watch. hey, i was a skinny teenager once!
