  1. ha ha ha. "free" advertising for Wrigley Gum. HA HA HA HA dumb
  2. i thought he said that he was going to be in town doing the DePaul game but he'd be at Opening Day. I could have misheard though DePaul game? On March 31st? Thats the weekend of the Sweet 16/Elite 8 IIRC. i guess i misheard then. when was the last time Musberger did baseball for ESPN? I know i'm in the minority, but i really like Musberger, especially for college football
  3. yikes I know, and with such an important game on the line too what's scary is that one or two things go wrong and we're looking at that in a game that DOES matter
  4. i thought he said that he was going to be in town doing the DePaul game but he'd be at Opening Day. I could have misheard though
  5. the cubs are the #3 draw on the road. the "most cubs fans go to wrigley to get drunk" statement is a myth. partially. i think a good number go to Wrigley to get drunk, but if you banned those people from going to games, the place would fill up with people who actually like baseball. in other words, there are a lot of good baseball fans who can't go to wrigley because of the drunk d-bags
  6. Honestly, who didn't see this coming? Tennessee is about as convincing a #1 team as South Florida was a #2 in CFB
  7. and this is everyone's problem with you. I gave you CAREER stats, meaning Yankees/Rangers/Nationals/Cubs, showing pretty clearly that Soriano does not, in fact, hit well with runners on. Do I need to give you the numbers from last year? Fine. 2007 WITH THE CUBS w/ bases empty: .937 OPS w/ men on: .814 OPS w/ RISP: .827 OPS w/ 2 outs, RISP: .872 OPS 1st inning: 1.038 OPS 9th inning: .597 OPS
  8. welcome to the NIT Buckeyes.
  9. i'm pretty sure you don't read anyone's responses, but i'll say this again: CAREER w/ bases empty: .868 OPS w/ men on: .803 OPS w/ RISP: .770 OPS w/ 2 outs, RISP: .745 OPS 1st inning: .922 OPS 9th inning: .748 OPS so i'm not sure why you "don't buy" that he doesn't hit well with runners on, when THERE ARE THE NUMBERS IN BLACK AND WHITE also, since he DOESN'T hit as well lower in the order, i'm not sure why you think him doing so would "be in the team's best interest"
  10. you decide: CAREER w/ bases empty: .868 OPS w/ men on: .803 OPS w/ RISP: .770 OPS w/ 2 outs, RISP: .745 OPS 1st inning: .922 OPS 9th inning: .748 OPS
  11. Why? When people were supporting going after Roberts, their main defense to the "we already have a second baseman" arugment was about how Roberts is a leadoff hitter and Derosa isn't. Fine. I don't agree with it, but fine. But now we're discussing other second baseman that don't leadoff, just because the Roberts trade seems unlikely. What the hell is going on? Why don't we focus on upgrading positions that actually need it? Soriano will lead off Hudson could bat 2nd He would presumably come at a lower cost in terms of prospects
  12. ALFONSO SORIANO DOES NOT HIT WELL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LINEUP. ALFONSO SORIANO DOES NOT HIT WELL WITH RUNNERS ON. ALFONSO SORIANO DOES NOT HIT WELL WITH RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION. Seriously, the mod already warned you a bout thise "I refuse to acknowledge others points" nonsense. It has nothing to do with babying Soriano or making him feel comfortable, it about making him perform best. Like badnews said, an .890 ops hitter is always better than an .810 ops hitter, no matter where in the lineup they're hitting. This overvaluing of the leadoff spot is ridiculous and has to stop. Alfonso Soriano should have never been signed by the Cubs. It was a makeup signing for not making an honest run at Beltran or Vlad years earlier. Might as well make the best of his signing, but the points you made in all caps underline why he is such an overrated POS. $18 million for a guy who can't handle the pressure of batting with runners on base? Great decision, Jim. okay. but he WAS signed, so we're discussing how to best use him
  13. Yeah there is a reason tailgating is so big before a brewers game. It's because it's the only choice. Miller Park has enough parking spots if 1.25 of the fans drive together. don't get me started on the parking. i went up there and was shocked (shocked i tells ya!) that they lot was "full". then there were cryptic signs to some off site lot that you might be able to find if you've lived in milwaukee your whole life
  14. Miller Park in Milwaukee has no neighborhood. NONE. it's in the middle of nowhere with just a parking lot, so i have no idea what that dude is talking about. Also, The Cell is a better ballpark than Miller. Miller is an abomination
  15. He's a fan fave in the desert too, from what I understand. The guy just attracts support for his scrappiness no matter what the numbers say. You really can grit your way into the fans' hearts. his last two years have been much better than "gritty"
  16. of course hendry will say that. were you expecting him to say "OMG, we're SO desperate for a 2B now!"
  17. well, dusty's not the GM for starters...
  18. I'm really only half kidding. I really hate the Cell and hope they don't decide to play there. Yes crime is bad there, and yes, its relatively safe IF you're there in a group. HOWEVER the park and its neighborhood are just lame and awful. Its surrounded by acres of parking lots!!! I wish they could play in Milwaukee instead. MUCH better neighborhood and better ballpark too!! I like the Cubs and all, but it'll get old watching them play some crappy team in a crappy ballpark. No thanks! i've gone there, by myself, at night, on the El, and have never had issues. there are thousands of people going to and from the park at game times...you're unlikely to be wandering dark alleys at night. also, while not Wrigley by a long shot, The Cell isn't a horrible place to see a game.
  19. you guys are missing the key ingredient here, which is the fact that ticket prices will probably rise another 25-40% across the board after the renovations are done
  20. neifi in colorado helped the Cubs make the playoffs in 1998
  21. Really? I thought Guillen had a little pop in his bat. he had almost none at age 29. he hit 19 and 21 HR's at ages 30 and 31 Hudson has 60 career HR through age 29, Guillen had 64
  22. Baseball Reference has his "most comparable at age 29" as Carlos Guillen
  23. I certainly wouldn't go, that place is just unsafe. Its in the ghetto. I went there once for an interleague game and just about got knifed in the parking lot before the game. You're kidding, right? I don't think the mayor or Reinsdorf would much to say about the Cubs playing at USCellular Stadium - not a ballpark - if Wrigley were owned by the same state authority. And, yeah, it would be kind of neat to win the World Series while playing home games there. I only hope it's our third in a row, or at least the second in three years. ___________________________________________________________________ Sandberg>Mazeroski>Morgan Reinsdord could have a lot to say about it if HIS stadium lease deal gives him exclusive rights to the park.
  24. I certainly wouldn't go, that place is just unsafe. Its in the ghetto. I went there once for an interleague game and just about got knifed in the parking lot before the game. ha ha ha. i've been there a dozen times and havent' felt unsafe once
