  1. I don't watch one game and look what I miss.
  2. at last, an advantage to living in ohio. i'll be watching thom brenneman whine about the cubs yet again today. he didn't have much to whine about last night. he ragged on the Reds more than the Cubs.....the botched bunt play with Encarnacion, the horrible Paul O'Neil for Roberto Kelly trade.....he couldn't say much when the Cubs were just mowing down the Reds lineup
  3. I already posted the stats to refute this, but no one seemed to notice. Actually Derwood, your posting of statistics helped prove my point that Dunn isn't a great hitter (by my definition). His BBs and Ks (no contact) account for 43% of his ABs and in the 53% of ABs where he makes contact, 70% of the time he makes outs. so basically that means he has a .300 BABIP, which doesn't really mean anything except that when adam dunn makes contact, it results in an out about as often as every other batter in baseball history. BABIP doesn't count HR's as hits, but I see your point
  4. Ugh, no way. I hated the Cuba jerseys. I think the road alternates should be dark blue with white pinstripes. who's with me? *crickets*
  5. I wonder if they even knew he was this good until he went to the Cubs? Yes. Gammons specifically, but several of the bloggers as well, have consistently rated Harden as among the best pitchers in baseball when healthy. These analysts rarely settle definitively on a "best", they often use phrases like "may be the best pitcher", and then add some other qualifiers. Gammons likes to use the phrase, "the best pitcher you've never heard of" when talking about Harden. But I've read Harden-love numerous times from the ESPN baseball team long before he was a Cub. thom brenneman was basically gushing at harden the whole game yesterday, though he always added the "when healthy" qualifier. Harden has to go a season or two with no injuries before losing that qualifier. Wood has been in the league for 10+ years and still carries it.
  6. It's the one time I'm happy to have FSN-Ohio and FSN-Cincinnati
  7. I hate any game that isn't on WGN. I hate games that ARE on WGN. It looks like poop No WGNHD? aww a damned shame... They look realy good on my 51 inch plasma. Then again when they arent on WGN or a national network its radio for me, so its a double edged sword. nope, no WGNHD outside of the Chicago viewing area. It's a crime, really Not true actually, I live in FL and I have it. DishNetwork carries WGNHD, but other than that they suck, and they have no access to extrainnings cause they are cheap greedy bastages that dont care about thier customers. whereas I'm the opposite, getting the HD games on ExtraInnings and not on WGN
  8. I would love to face him in the World Series, as that means the Cubs are in the World Series.

  10. So youre saying the French won? no, i'm saying i'd like the French to be buried in a landslide
  11. had to dig out this monstrosity I created: http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/derwood/redjersey.jpg
  12. I like the olde thyme socks/pants.
  13. French in a landslide
  14. I hate any game that isn't on WGN. I hate games that ARE on WGN. It looks like poop
  15. I already posted the stats to refute this, but no one seemed to notice.
  16. Traded for Harden on July 9th. So since July 9th, the Cubs are 22-12, 5-2 on days that he has pitched, and his record is 3-1, 2.04 era, 1.08 whip Incorrect. His record is 3-1, 1.50 ERA, 0.95 WHIP
  17. For the record, I agree with all you guys. I just thought it was an interesting "concern" to have.
  18. why not take the logo and numbers off while you're at it? I think names on the back are a far lesser problem than vest jerseys, multi-colored caps and alternative jersey colors
  19. I don't get the "nameless" fetish. How does that make them better?
  20. It's not entirely our fault. Who'd have thought Dorrell would destroy UCLA's football team back 5 years or so ago when we scheduled them. UAB has fallen off a cliff since we scheduled them, but they were only decent back then anyway. Wyoming is a normal homecoming pushover and NIU is down from where they normally are. So yeah, outside the SEC is easier than normal, but the conference schedule is going to be brutal. Well if the other SEC teams are playing the same type of OOC schedule you are it should match up some 3-0/4-0 and make it look even better! Seriously, your conference has stepped it up a bit with the exception of LSU, theirs is terrible. Arkansas' is pretty terrible, What? One good game (Texas), three terrible games (W. Illinois, Tulsa and UL-Monroe)
  21. Needs a battery of drug tests ASAP. There is no way anyone should be winning races by jogging while everyone else is busting a blood vessel running as hard as they can
  22. I was having a discussion with my best friend the other day, and the topic turns to the Cubs. He says, "If the Cubs win it all this year, I really hope it's against the Red Sox or Angels." I asked him why and he said "I don't want the Cubs to finally win the World Series but allow critics to say, 'Sure they won it, but it took beating a crappy White Sox team to do it.' " It's not something I really worry about (after 100 years, I don't care who they have to beat) but does my friend's "concern" have any legitimacy? If last year's World Series had been the Red Sox' first in 90 years, would people have said "Sure, but they beat an overachieving Rockies team"?
  23. there wouldn't be a Daily Show without Kilborn. That said, Stewart has made it what it is. Five Questions was still a great segment though
  24. I credit the rest of the division being horrible. 88 wins isn't really something to get impressed by, especially when that team was probably capable of better. Last night's game against the Reds reminded me of every reason I'm glad Baker is no longer here. Terrible fundamentals, over-management of the bullpen.....sorry Reds fans
