  1. I know that I'm in the minority on all of this admiration about Dunn, but I would never call Dunn a "great hitter". A "great hitter" would be able to make contact with the ball more often than Dunn does. He has a .904 OPS and a .305 EQA. I would say that's a great hitter. I consider players like Bonds, Pujols, Manny Ramirez, ARod, Gwynn, etc. great hitters. Dunn is a great slugger, but not a great hitter in my book. As I stated earlier, the new emphasis on stats rewards sluggers and devalues non-sluggers. It is important to have some sluggers on a team, but it is great to have some players like Theriot, BRob, Ichiro, etc. on the team too. so you're saying that you'd rather have a team with a few theriots or ichiros on it rather than 8 Dunns? I bet I know which team would win
  2. So if it's the Cubs vs. the Angels in the World Series and K-Rod closes out Game 1 with an amped up times 10,000 version of his imbecilic act since it's the World Series, it won't bother you, all the hopping around and chest thumping and gesticulating? nope. Nor will it bother me when Soriano cranks a homerun, gazes at it, pulls out his blackberry to text his buddies about it, orders a deep dish pizza, then rides a unicycle around the bases while "Yakkity Sax" plays on the Wrigley organ.
  3. so what's the protocol? Umpires never think they're wrong, so I can't imagine them actively seeking out the help of instant replay if one of the managers doesn't push the issue
  4. maybe in 2012 they should have a worldwide fantasy draft to pick teams for all the sports.
  5. It was regional last year. If your provider only has one channel, then you'll only get the regional game. It doesn't apply to providers with alternate channels unless you don't have enough alternates to get all of the games. South Bend's Comcast has 2, plus an allegedly HD channel that doesn't appear to broadcast in HD. We'll see how that flies. being an HD channel doesn't mean everything on that channel is HD quality. The games will likely be HD but probably nothing but. BTN is pretty much all HD. I mean, if they are showing Purdue vs. Northwestern girl's softball in HD, why would they scrimp anywhere else
  6. ah. DirecTV has the main channel plus 2 or 3 alternates
  7. tons of races, gymnastics, etc. I'm already tired of people running. Show me some people throwing stuff
  8. The girl who won the floor exercise definitely deserved it. She was pretty flawless. I'll miss Bela when the games are over. He's TV gold. Oh, and Alicia Sacramone makes my pants tight
  9. this idea has "Peter Principle" written all over it
  10. the Cubs were only 3 or 4 games over .500 at this time last year. A bit has changed I'd say
  11. BTN Regional......does that just mean one of the BTN alternate channels? I don't recall coverage being regional last year
  12. i don't think you understand how universities work. they run themselves like businesses, right or wrong Wrong It may be the wrong way of doing things, but it's how they do it. When I was at DePaul, our university president was famous for writing a book called "How to run a university like a business". It's how things are done. It's why they underfund programs that don't bring any money into the university. It's why they hire "professors" who have zero teaching skills but make a lot of money publishing. It's just how it works. Like any other less than ideal situation, you have to work the system to get what you want out of it

  14. Very happy to have turned off a 2-0 game and see we won 9-2. Nice work boys.

  16. I'm pretty sure she skipped part of the anthem. she also changed keys about 7 times
  17. I don't care if closers set themselves on fire after they makes saves. i seriously don't.
  18. Why would you put Clemente above Wagner?? it's about who you associate with the team, not necessarily the best statistically. When I think of the Pirates, Stargell and Clemente are the first names that come to mind
  19. Except Capuano sucks and if Capuano/Gallardo were healthy, they never would have traded for Sabathia
  20. several studies have shown that teenagers would be much more effective in school if the school day was 9:30-4:30pm instead of 7:30-2:30pm, but no school does that. brilliant
  21. He would have been in the 9.5's if he hadn't slowed up
  22. that was silly. broke the WR even though he slowed down at the end
