  1. because 2003 was when the MLB finally started giving stiff penalties for positive tests
  2. the panel on MLBN's Hot Stove show didn't entirely convince me that they weren't taking stuff themselves. Sean Casey got all sweaty and weird when Vasgerjian was asking him about it.
  3. MLB Network just posted A-Rod's numbers pre, during, and post his 2001-03 steroid use, and the difference in SLG was like .035 while the batting average stayed the same. He didn't have some insane power spike
  4. ....green font? you don't think people have cheated in pretty much every era of the game?
  5. both of those teams get their teeth kicked in by Cleveland, Orlando or Boston in a playoff series
  6. aw geez.... at least we know that he can all post pics of hot chicks with impunity now
  7. I think you're overstating Rose's value at this point.
  8. If you disregard the Dusty factor, these seem like two no-risk signings for the Reds. I think quite a lot of teams will have a couple of MLB vets as NRI's in spring training; it seems to be part of everyone's annual "you never know..." routine. Yeah, I don't think either is a bad signing on the face of it. The problems start when you consider Dusty is the manager. Ward will start every Sunday when Dusty sports his forefit lineup. Gawd that use to piss me off. not only start every Sunday, but start in the exact batting slot as the regular he's replacing (so probably batting 3rd in place of Votto).
  9. could be agreed
  10. what's the actual deal at this point?
  11. I'm totally on board with the Yankees doing this. Let's get in on this and offer some cleaner, grittier, True Yankee [tm] type players for him.....Theriot, Reed Johnson and Luis Vizcaino should do the trick (assuming the Yankees eat 90% of his salary)
  12. if they didn't do it with Giambi...... oh, right, Jason (sorta) apologized. maybe A-Rod should do that. oh, right, Yankees fans/media hate A-Rod for absolutely no reason
  13. the OP of the thread was "I've noticed everyone is being a dick right now." I don't think abuck is disagreeing with that. Actually, the OP seemed to suggest that nsbb isn't as great as it once was and it's because of the attitude of a select few. I'm not sure whether abuck agrees with that or not, but again, I have no idea why you think he missed the point of the thread. I just think the spirit of the thread was "this place used to be cooler, but now it's turning into cubs.com with the level of snarkiness, etc.", and abuck's response was "sack up, you sniveling tattletales." Making a post that is EXACTLY what the OP was complaining about comes across to me as missing the point. But whatever, NSBB is what it is and anyone who doesn't like it is free to leave. It's not for me to say how Tim and the mods want the place to be. I'm also guilty of some of the snarkiness, so I'm not going to start throwing stones

  15. no, you did, but that's cool.
  16. you seem to be missing the point of the thread
  17. to be fair, Shaq and Yao are both like 3 times bigger than Noah
  18. it was a game that about 15,000 people saw live, but 50,000 will claim to have been at
  19. They were just made illegal two years ago. Strong coffee pretty much did the same thing. Coffee has been used for years. I doubt any homerun records were dismantled because of greenies. you can't directly link steroids to broken home run records either. greenies were useful because they gave players that extra kick of energy they needed to get through the long season. steroids help you recover from fatigue and injuries more quickly (because I can't imagine players do a ton of heavy weight lifting during the season). in both cases, you still need to have bat speed, hand-eye-coordination, etc. that neither of those "supplements" can provide
  20. and when they're cold from three, they're dead i think battle is starting to run out of gas. he's small, so physical defense takes a toll on him, and he's short, so he has to elevate a lot to get his shot off. they're not good enough to blow out bad teams and not bad enough to get trounced by good teams, so they end up in a lot of close games and he plays close to 40 minutes. they don't have an adequate backup point guard and cornley/pringle aren't good enough to keep them afloat while battle's out. nope, this team is 6, maybe 7 deep at best (and two of the starters aren't really scoring options). You can't expect Battle/Pringle/Cornley to play 36 minutes/game and not tire out. There's no way they win the BTT with their lack of depth
  21. and when they're cold from three, they're dead
  22. Their best interior defender is Cornley, who is giving up 5 inches to the goons on Wisky
  23. so is Adam Dunn worth $18M? if doing nothing but clobbering homers is worth $18M, then a guy like Pujols is worth $40M
  24. rough shooting has PSU down 7 at the break.
  25. Battle leads the Big Ten in points and assists......POY? Cornley has an outside shot now and has a big body......possible 2nd round pick?
