  1. I think Hendry knows that Wood would accept arbitration and most likely would have gotten a raise. Hendry could not take that chance since he has already found Wood's "replacement."
  2. Henderson is the only vote. Ron Gant is close to the ridiculous title.
  3. Dear lord not here too. The answer is NO, he did not do enough. Isn't the Hall of Fame watered down enough?
  4. Because in Chicago, Philly, New York, Boston and places like them, it's 25 degrees on November 1st a lot of times and that's not conducive to playing baseball. It sucks to watch these really good players have to fight the weather instead of just the other team. Exactly my point, I don't want LESS baseball. I do think that the season should be finished by mid-October though.
  5. Want to make the baseball season end sooner? There is no need to shorten the regular season. 2 simple things: 1. Cut the number of travel days during the playoffs. 2. Go back to scheduling double headers I know the idea of double headers has gone to the wayside because no team wants to lose the game revenue. However people talk about cutting the schedule back, this shortens the season without losing the games. As for revenue, a lot of teams are doing tiered pricing anyway. Make the tickets for the scheduled double headers cost 25-30% more or something. I know back in the 90s when they still scheduled them, I circled those dates as must go. I lived for the double header. Even if you scheduled 8 double headers and took 2 travel days off the playoff schedule that is 10 days shorter and game 7 of the World Series would now be back in October where it belongs. For that matter, schedule 10 Double headers and add 2 games to the first round, for those that want 7 games in the NLDS/ALDS.
  6. Just terrible.
  7. Is it the NSBB league? If so, I would be interested.
  8. Then you don't have a very good imagination. Theres been talk of moving Drew to CF all offseason (if they acquired Tex). Just seems kind of weird given the way they baby him to keep him healthy. Wait, who would move to RF if they got Teixiera? I would guess Youkilis, if Lowell is healthy enough to play 3rd at the start of the season.
  9. DON'T KILL THE MESSENGER I just saw this article and thought this comment was odd: http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081115&content_id=3680872&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy Not what I thought and I am a little shocked.
  10. +1 Great stuff. +1 more. That was interesting. Still wouldn't mind seeing the darkhorse Yankees making a play here, but alas it seems it is not to be.
  11. I am partial to CarZam.
  12. I don't think the Yanks are opening with that high a bid. I can see them offering the Santana contract to open and going that high, but Cashman does not seem to want to go crazy here. People need to remember that Cashman is starting these negotiations and the Steins won't get involved until Hank feels like we are going to lose out on him. Then Hank may jump in ala george and go insane with the money. Cashman is about restraint, THANK GOODNESS!!
  13. Sad to see this! Wood should have ended his career always having been a Cub! I really hope he does not go to the Met's. I don't want to have to root against him! I honestly think Gregg is a downgrade to Wood. I think the Cubs downgraded today. I know Marmol can step up when Gregg implodes, but this is a bad deal in my mind.
  14. Nady will be playing RF next season. I am hoping he plays left and this means Damon is traded as well, LOL Wishful thinking I know. I can also see Swisher at 1B and no Tex.
  15. who else do we get to play first though? The majority of the thread has been to get rid of DLee so the Cubs have a shot at signing Tex. So, I didn't think you needed a 1B back. that's all i was going off there Sorry, I meant if the Yankees passed on Tex and got involved in the DLee trade talks. I just edited my post.

  17. I sincerely don't see the Yankees going insane on offers to Tex. Definitely not 8-10 years crazy and not 20 per crazy. I wouldn't mind if the Yankees passed on Tex and got involved in the DLee trade talks though.
  18. 4 kids. Terrible news. R.I.P and condolences to his family!
  19. But he can always opt out after 2011.
  20. The Phillies. They will piss of Met's fans. Red Sox - Obviously not. Rays - Fans can crawl back under a rock and let's see if they draw 25,000 next season. Dodgers - MEH, just tired of Wildcard winners.
  21. This was too funny: aquigley: I've got a slogan. I want to punch everyone in the face. ChicoEscuela: You'd swing and miss.
  22. Hey, at least we didn't spend 210 million like the Yankees! We are sori...er I mean SORRY Choke-a-Cola, the official soft drink of the Chicago Cubs OOOPS, You could have had a V-8!
  23. Not even close You're delusional. No offense to you personally. But he's not wrong. There are WORSE run franchises in pro sports....like the Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions, New York Rangers, New York Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, etc, etc. So the Cubs are clearly not as bad ( tho there not overly great, either) as you claim it to be, Jeff. WAIT! You put the NY Rangers in there and then DO NOT mention the New York KNICKS?!?!?!? I will take the Cubs over the Knicks in a heartbeat!
