  1. I couldn't disagree more. Do you really want to see the home ump eliminated in baseball? Maybe it's the conventionalist in me, but I'd absolutely hate to see the day when balls and strikes are called by some robot. The game is becoming less pure every year; adding "electronic verification", as you call it, would just make it worse. I don't want that, personally, but that would be a more pressing need for electronics than home run calls.
  2. Everyone really got on the Marshall train because of some desperation for a homegrown guy, but I just keep thinking of those blowouts against Philly and Houston and don't really yearn for his "well, we might not end up losing" five-inning starts.
  3. The place where we need electronic verification is balls and strikes, not home run calls. How much complaining is done about home run calls?
  4. Two months late to the party, but Sean Marshall stopped being good at keeping balls in the yard and recording outs, so it seemed like a good idea to replace him with a veteran pitcher from the AL down the stretch. It seemed like a good idea and it wasn't.
  5. Stop talkin' smack about 97.9, guys. That's classic rock that really rocks.
  6. Even the Houston Astros?
  7. He doesn't hit well enough for the outfield, and he doesn't field the position well enough to get away with diminished batting production.
  8. Ronny Cedeno has average skills, but he's baseball stupid.
  9. Was it June when everybody had Ryan Theriot pictures in their sigs? God help us all if Geovany Soto regresses over a full season next year. I wasn't terribly worried about where his production ranked, because we got enough production from other positions, and I was satisfied with his fielding over Cesar's.
  10. I'm not staying up till 2 in the morning to watch Denver play Phoenix in baseball. Sorry.
  11. If Ronny Cedeno is the answer, I don't want to know the question. I still maintain that you guys really turned on Theriot. At least Matt Murton will always be loved for being a generic white guy. Probably because he came out of Boston, where Bill James is employed, so sabermetrics and stuff! Murton underachieved too. Nobody's calling for his head.
  12. I agree that the Cubs should upgrade at shortstop if possible, but come on, you guys, you're trying to argue that Ronny Cedeno is an upgrade? Whenever I think of Ronny Cedeno, his name is prefaced with "Effing." Theriot did his job well enough this year, and he was an improvement over Izturis, but if we can get a better shortstop, I have no reservations about him moving to utility infielder.
  13. Man, I thought this board loved Ryan Theriot once. Did I miss something?
  14. Tony La Russa will kill George Steinbrenner and the high-pressure New York sports media with The Fungo Bat Of Authority.
  15. Why do we have to ask why Theriot is so loved here? This is the same board that fawns over Matt Murton.
  16. Someone needs to remind Brewers fans that they still finished in second place, no matter what the Cubs did.
  17. "Alls I'm sayin is dere's too many latinos on dis team."
  18. Because they're of the lower class.
  19. I usually like them, but their well-established dislike for Ron Santo crosses the line.
  20. Okay, after the error is when you should make the appeal to the ump about the hat. Not after a K, so it's not sour grapes.
  21. He has really sounded Pro-Dbacks all game. I would think TBS could do better than Dick soap dropping Stockton "You'd think there'd be lots of Cubs fans here, but there aren't!" wrong, Dick. "Derrek Lee at the plate, Lee spent last year at Milwaukee and Texas."
  22. Dick Stockton sounds more enthusiastic about Webb's success than Zambrano's. Maybe he's bitter over Boers & Bernstein replaying his "Adolfo Soriano" and "Angel Pecan" calls to death.
  23. Frank TV is this year's Skin. HIS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!
