  1. A lack of baserunners was definitely not the problem today.
  2. No matter what happens tonight, hopefully Howry can build off the inning he threw (even though Sori bailed him out a bit).
  3. I don't know what the situation was, but Dunn should have bunted. Fundamentals is how you win ballgames, dude.
  4. The Charlie Hustle wannabes are going to love that effort Aramis gave running to first base.
  5. As long as Cedeno keeps starting and getting the majority of at bats, I can live with Ryan Theriot in this situation. And as long as he keeps failing in this situation, Cedeno should continue to start. A bit of a catch-22 I guess.
  6. I'm convinced that the only reason Fukudome isn't batting 1.000 is because he wants to give everyone else a chance.
  7. Actually, its not semantics in the way you use it. Also-I know you're going to ignore this and post the same thing about Roberts AGAIN-but the Cubs are 12th in baseball in runs scored. They aren't struggling.
  8. If it keeps the 35 year old tools who ask for 10 autographs from each player "for my little brother" from the field, then I have no problem with it.
  9. The "broken record" comment had a lot more to do with your insistence that "leadoff" is a position and that somehow Brian Roberts will cure all that ails the Cubs. And your insinuation that Soriano somehow has performed at this level (.100 BA) throughout his tenure with the Cubs is blatantly false. Was Soriano a stupid contract? Of course. Does your continual and redundant commentary about Brian Roberts have anything to do with Soriano's performance? Absolutely not.
  10. No. Do you? I know you are but what am I?
  11. Man, I thought this broken record had finally stopped. Good God. BTW-DeRosa had the heart condition since he was 16. He actually no longer has it anymore-the surgery took care of it.
  12. Paul Bako, the current starter, is batting .286 with a game-winning hit under his belt this season already. "He is one of the best non-roster signings that we made and I know we made quite a few (Bako, Corey Patterson, Mike Lincoln, Kent Mercker, Johnny Cueto)," manager Dusty Baker said. "Imagine where we'd be without him." Yay Dusty.
  13. It would be an overreaction if Pie hadn't already had some significant MLB experience before this season. How many chances does he get? I think he deserves at least one.
  14. If that's the case, we'd all save a lot of bandwith by focusing on the players that are actually hitting well this year, even though Fukudome is a long name.
  15. There are TWO threads that are either (a) explicitly devoted to Theriot bashing, or (b) taken over by posts bashing him. Theriot is awful. Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez have all started off badly. These statements are both true, but need not be linked at all times. Can there be threads dedicated to criticizing players not named Ryan Theriot, or is it a rule that no player can be criticized this year without also slamming Theriot?
  16. There was a mild debate between the announcers as to whether or not Resop should have gotten warm up pitches when he returned to the mound from left field. Is there a rule for that?
  17. Derek Jeter? All the Molina brothers? Torii Hunter?
  18. One of the first responses to the original post was "go to hell." If that's not a personal attack, I don't know what is. Later responses implied that the support of Theriot was based on race, and the post above this one felt the need to take a shot at the person starting this thread simply because it didn't get much support. I should be clear-I don't like Theriot, and I personally would prefer Cedeno. But my God, just because someone thinks Theriot is the best SS the team currently has (by no means a ridiculous argument), there is no reason to tell that person to go to hell. Get a little perspective.
  19. Yet not quite as foolish as missing the point of the post, yet responding to it anyway. HINT: see the caveat at the end of the list. There was an intended audience, and "rational people" were not that intended audience. If people had responded rationally, the indignation would never have happened.
  20. I guess you don't understand the rules for some people here. Its simple: 1. Ryan Theriot is the worst player to ever put on a Cubs uniform (since last year's scapegoat is no longer on the team) 2. Each loss will be, more than any other single player, blamed on him. 3. ANYTHING good he ever does is negated by the fact that he's the worst player on the team and therefore even those good moments cannot be appreciated or commented positively upon (even if the person appreciating those moments states that he knows, on the whole, Theriot isn't good-that's still not good enough. He must be hated at all times.). 4. If you dare attempt to state anything positive about said scapegoat, you are a racist and a Hawk Harrelson wannabe. 5. Therefore, it is okay to attack personally anyone who has even a modicum of sympathy for his position or his efforts. NOTE: This description does NOT apply to everyone. Just the people who felt the need to personally attack the person who dared to have a contradictory opinion.
  21. So a poster dares to post an opinion that he likes Ryan Theriot and he's told to go to hell and its implied that he's a racist. Way to attack the poster and not the post. You stay classy, guys. Look-I don't think that Theriot is any good, but the behavior of some towards the original poster in this thread is nothing short of shameful.
  22. I think the Reds will win just enough games for at least 4-5 writers to pull out the lazy, boring, and myopic "Dusty Baker sticks it to the stat geeks and just wins, baby" column somewhere around August 15th. And then when Volquez, Cueto, and Bailey go down next year, those same columnists will question openly the toughness of the three.
