  1. The irony of calling out Lou Piniella for knee jerk reactions within the course of this thread is overwhelming.
  2. there aren't people like this - well not really. there are people who realize he was a very good #3 or average #2 last year, and who think it is idiotic to act like he should be in danger of losing his rotation spot. There absolutely are, just as there are people who believe he should be a LOOGY. They are few and far between, but I've seen both on these boards. You may think that he's a very good #3 or average #2 (I agree, by the way), but the manner in which some rise to defend anything and everything Rich Hill belies the argument that there aren't people who overrate him to absurd levels.
  3. As usual with Hill, the truth should lie somewhere in the middle between the "One-Pitch-Rich"ers and the "Hill is the Greatest Cub Pitcher since Fergie Jenkins" ers. To advocate pulling Hill after two starts is utterly ridiculous. However, to sweep his control problems under the rug as if they shouldn't be cause for a little concern, especially considering they occurred throughout Spring Training as well is equally ridiculous. There's no reason to be overly critical or overly defensive of him.
  4. No way should Hill be pulled from the rotation-that would be really dumb. However, they do need to figure out what's going on with this guy and his control issues. It was going on during Spring Training and has now progressed into the season. There's a specific problem going on and somebody needs to figure out why he can't find the plate. Last night was ridiculous.
  5. I think you're forgetting the joy that is watching a game on the U. They've almost upgraded to videotape cameras!
  6. So do they just fly straight up in the air and right back down again?
  7. Agreed. We gave him an extended look last year and he sucked then, so this isn't necessarily a sample size issue. You can't play the young guys just for the sake of playing them, they have to at least show something out there. That's coming off incredibly Dustyish, I imagine. 200 ABs is "an extended look?" Good thing the Cubs didn't have ARod, because his .225/.259/.330 in his first 200 ABs would have gotten him released.
  8. I think you are missing the fact that the camera angle at PNC Park is different than most ballparks. Its more off to the right side. So a lot of pitches to that side of the plate look like strikes when they are balls. And the fact that if you demonstrate the control of Ricky Vaughn throughout the first three innings, you're not going to get borderline calls.
  9. Yeah I know. Who wants 7 innings of 1-hit baseball when you could get 1 inning of walks? sample size? Pulling any of them would be stupid. But even mentioning that Dempster should even be in the discussion, at this moment, regarding pulling pitchers is beyond stupid. Because no bad pitcher ever had two good games? No, you're right. Pull Dempster. Jerk had the audacity to pitch two of the 3 best games the Cubs pitchers have had this season. Get out of the rotation!

  11. Yeah I know. Who wants 7 innings of 1-hit baseball when you could get 1 inning of walks?
  12. The only consolation is that Matt Morris is the opposing pitcher.
  13. Its called "not being able to throw strikes."
  14. I love these Rich Hill "If I only had a brain" moments.
  15. So we get Game Three 2007 Playoffs Rich Hill tonight. Goody.
  16. Wow. He crushed that ball. Thank god for quirky huge left center fields.
  17. Please prove my reverse jinx correct, Felix. Please.
  18. Wild pitch. It'll just make Pie's inevitable 3 pitch K that much more disappointing.
  19. Hart will not blow the save. BOOK IT! He didn't blow the save. Yet.
  20. Why didn't Ramirez run hard to first base on that? What a lazy, non-clutch hitting bum.
  21. Theriot gets hit, Cubs win and Theriot is starter. Theriot gets out, reinforces how he's bad, he stays on the bench. Tough call here.
  22. This is the type of game that makes stupid sportswriters write lazy columns about clutch hitting.
