  1. did they miss that PAT or was it blocked? Missed it to the left. I really don't know what to say anymore.
  2. 12-6 ISU, nothing is pending.
  3. ISU FG, bad snap, holder throws it out of bounds.
  4. They might be best in the country at that. Kansas felt sorry for us and missed as well, so we're even. 6-6.
  5. ISU strikes first, and misses the XP.
  6. That's probably the only situation I'd consider kicking the FG. The only difference with that situation and any other situation is that the loss of momentum would go with you into halftime. I don't care about the momentum factor. One of the big advantages of going for it is if you fail to convert the other team takes over in awful territory, and you'll likely get the ball back in their territory anyway. That's a good point. My main thinking is that the likelihood of gaining two yards is better than the other team stopping you. And with the torrential downpours that have been going on all day in Missouri, that field goal might have actually been difficult due to the angle and the rain. In college football last year teams were 65.3% on 4th and goal from the 1, meaning going for it was worth about 4.6 points compared to 3 for a field goal. Given that this was a long yard and the field conditions are awful Missouri had a lower than normal chance, but breakeven is 42.8% assuming the FG is good all the time. They should be better than that, so I think it was a breakeven decision at worst. If this wasn't at half and field position was a factor, the difference between the opponent having the ball at the 1 and having it on an average kickoff (a little past the 30) is around 2.5 additional points. That makes a FG from the 1 in the middle of a half worth about -4 net points compared to going for it. Barring a few late game situations I'd go for it every time.
  7. Wow, I forgot about Zobrist. Fangraphs' WAR leaders (for position players): Ben Zobrist 8.5 Albert Pujols 8.4 Joe Mauer 8.2 Chase Utley 7.7 Derek Jeter 7.4 Hanley Ramirez 7.3 Evan Longoria 7.3 Ryan Zimmerman 7.1 That's incredible.
  8. Braylon Edwards to the Jets for Chansi Stuckey, Jason Trusnik (who?), and two draft picks (rumor is 3rd and 5th rounders).
  9. Because some OU fans think the team should basically never lose, ever. This isn't the Eisenhower Era. Expectations are a little out of control at some of these schools. There seems to be an even stronger movement to fire Pete Carroll, Mark Richt, Les Miles, etc. Ok, so Les Miles is actually terrible (in-game at least), but everybody thinks their school should be better than it is. I get that, but be realistic about it and stop trying to fire guys like Bob Stoops and Carroll, who's only gone 92-16 (including a 6-6 first year) with a BCS bowl victory every year since 2002 (Vince Young games excluded).
  10. This game is pretty good.
  11. That's awesome. It would've been better if Torre made Manny the manager though. He doesn't want to get suspended for the start of the playoffs.
  12. If you want parity of win% the NFL isn't going to rate very highly because the better team wins in football more often than in most other sports (and less games means more variance). In baseball, for example, the Netherlands can beat the Dominican Republic twice in a row, Manatee Community College can beat the Pirates scrubs, and teams losing to their minor league affiliates in spring training isn't unheard of. The disparity in lineman alone makes me think any NFL team losing to a NCAA or CFL-type team is extremely low. I think the NFL has the best parity of talent of any major league I can think of due to teams having roughly equal payrolls and the ability to make huge leaps in the pecking order within a single offseason.
  13. Derek Jeter +7.2 UZR comes to mind. Whatever ridiculous numbers Greinke put up. Adam Dunn not hitting exactly 40 home runs.
  14. I really have no idea how Arnaud regressed as much as he has from last year to this one. If he plays like he's capable of playing today they probably win and are 50-50 to go bowling. Now they're pretty much done. In other news, the stat lines in the Houston-UTEP game are insane. Keenum went 51/76 for 536 with a 5/0 ratio and lost by 17. Donald Buckram (great name for a RB) had 32 carries for 262 and 4 TDs for UTEP.
  15. Ricciardi? I know he's a stats guy, but he seemed pretty terrible over the last few years. The Vernon Wells contract alone would eliminate him from my wishlist.
  16. Gotta be heartbreaking for Iowa State. If they win that game they move to 4-1 with home games against Colorado (awful) and a QB-less Baylor. Could've been their year to finally sneak into a bowl game. I want to kill something.
  17. I guess this is high school football, but I'll put it here anyway. Great ending to the first game in this clip (0:20~2:00). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1JpJ53FbXg&feature=player_embedded
  18. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-t25-oregon-blount&prov=ap&type=lgns So basically once Oregon realized they had a chance at the Rose Bowl the suspension goes out the window.
  19. It's more that the other popular candidates are pretty much guaranteed to be like that and there's at least a chance Trammell isn't.
  20. Ha, I was coming here to post the mlb.com video of this. It didn't quite make the second deck, but that's pretty ridiculous.
  21. Hysterical. 3 picks in a half - that's definitely what he can do. Now I'm even happier about getting Jets/Saints. They both suck, whats the big deal. If Anderson seems more comfortable in practice I would make the move too. Given the sheer terribleness that is that offense, I think I'd take the QB out about 50% of the time, replacing him with a blocking TE and use the Wildcat. You'd turn the ball over a lot less and probably move the ball more effectively. Taking the QB out has always seemed like a waste to me. It lets the defense change personnel since they know the wildcat is coming and takes the threat of the reverse pass away. Just split him out wide and let him block a CB. There's a slightly higher injury risk, but if your quarterbacks are Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson who cares?
  22. Thigpen wasn't my first choice (would've preferred Rosenfels since Minny isn't using him), but he was fine with the Chiefs last year. Hopefully Henne gets a chance to play first to see if he can be a competent starter, but if he isn't it's better than the alternative of running the wildpat full-time.
  23. ESPN is reporting that Pennington is out for the year, let the Chad Henne era begin. This pretty much kills the Dolphins of getting to the playoffs, though they were probably already dead when they started 0-3. Hopefully Henne can develop into a decent starter, but with this receiving corps I'm doubtful that he'll turn this year around. If he gets injured too, full-time wildcat.
  24. To be fair it is easy for good QB's when they get 5-7 seconds to throw every play. In contrast, Arizona's O-line is completely terrible.
  25. The 2007 version of Favre is definitely an upgrade over T-Jax or Sage. The 2008, 2006, and 2005 versions are probably equal at best. So far he looks pretty good, but he started out playing well last year and had a big drop. Let's wait and see if he wears down like most 40-year-olds or tries to play through an injury before he's proclaimed the Vikings savior.
